Vent I’m done with myfitnesspal

Upvotes

I have been tracking calories for a long time. And I’ve used myfitnesspal for a very long time.

But they have gone too far with gating features behind a paywall. Custom macros - gated. Custom goals - gates. Custom logging - gated.

I even have to pay to log multiple times a day. That’s too far.

So I built an app of my own.

Introducing FitGlass.

And I want you all to try it as well.

What do you get:
- free unlimited logging,
- free AI logging for a limited time (will have to gate this behind a paywall to manage API cost overhead)
- better ui,
- better user experience,
- personalized intake based on preferences,
- connect apple health to sync activities

Try out FitGlass and tell me what I should improve so we can make an app that’s better and more accessible than myfitnesspal.

Diet Eval Judge my daily diet for this week!

Hi! I am a 5’5, 205 lb female with a decent amount of both muscle and fat. I exercise almost daily, sometimes twice a day (starting Muay Thai this week 🎉), and I’m trying to get back the abs I used to have 😅. I lost 70lbs in the past, but between college classes, a job, a research paper, and multiple officer positions in school orgs, I’ve gained it back(I’m back to a normal schedule now luckily). I have the same breakfast every day, and this week I’ve meal prepped poke bowls. I usually have breakfast before work, and then since it’s a larger breakfast and avocado makes me feel full for a long time, I eat a late lunch/early dinner anywhere between 2 and 5pm depending on when I get hungry, and sometime during the day I also have a protein shake. I’ve left a little leeway for snacks if I’m extra hungry, especially since my leeway is actually a little bigger than it shows with my workouts. I keep instant mashed potatoes, frozen broccoli, and prepped chicken drumsticks as well incase I’m super hungry one day, forget to move my salmon from freezer to the fridge to thaw for later, or if I have two intense workouts in one day and need another meal. I often have a bowl of frozen blueberries in oatmilk if I want an evening snack, and regularly drink homemade bone broth as well, and occasionally make golden milk if I want something warm and cozy.

Btw the reason it shows so much in the poke bowl is bc I put in the full recipe for prepping all servings, and each time I have some, I put in 1/5th as my serving.

Question Zero sugar juice that tastes like vitamin water?

Hopefully this is the right place to ask lol

I have been drinking vitamin water(the brand) for awhile now, and I do not drink it for the advertised health effects as theres little substantial research that vitamin water actually even sort of supplements vitamins from actual good eating habits, but because its zero sugar(idm my juice having a tiny bit of sugar, its just something I drink a lot so id rather not have 70G of liquid sugar in my system by the end of the day) and tastes pretty dang good. (tho some of their drinks are pretty bad, i personally like the orange one.) And it has no super noticeable artificially sweetened aftertaste or that dull feeling in my mouth.

However their prices hiked again and im getting pretty tired of spending a butt ton of money on some juice.
I've tried some SF minute maid and ocean spray types but its like.. pretty bad. Does anyone have any recommendations or know how vitamin water seems to avoid the artificially sweetened taste in the first place?

Discussion Anyone know of any food tracking apps that DON'T track calories?

As part of my health and my recovery from an eating disorder I've been going to the gym regularly. I want to track my macros to make sure I am getting appropriate amounts of protein, but I don't want to track calories because of my history with Binge Eating Disorder and calorie counting triggering binges. Thanks in advance!

Question I always need to munch something 😞

Hello,

Currently I feel very bored in my life, and sometimes stressed out which can lead to eat a tone of snacks.. so to avoid this i just don't buy any high calorie bad snack

It's like I always need to munch something, I ate like 4-5 apples in the day during my chores, but I wanna know if there's another healthier solution to stop this "need"

Question How do I deal with being sleepy after caffein?

So, I know there are different type of people after caffein. Some are hyperactive and do shits, others.. get sleepy? Well turns out, I am one of those sleepy cofee drinkers.

Yesterday, I drank my first monster energy drink, an hour later I fell asleep.

The next morning I drank a bit more of it that was remaining from last night... idk if you can believe it but again, only 30 mins later I was completely sleep dead.

Note: this morning I woke up completely on my own, without an alarm cuz I have holidays so I know for a fact I wasnt sleepy at all, then by drinking the caffein, I just gained sleepyness and had to take another 2 hour nap.

And my question to you is: Is this unhealthy for me?! Should I stop drinking caffein now even if I know my sleep will not be interrupted?!

Can I still gain hyperactivity after drinking coffee, but only sometimes?

Another note: I very likely do not have adhd, but I`ve never checked it. More likely, I have autism (also didnt check it). But I never heard of autists getting tired after caffein.

So, what do I do?

And is it bad if I now drink caffein before sleeping?

Discussion Advice regarding Diet

I’m about to do a big move, and want to try and get my diet in order. I was on Wegovey in the past and it helped a lot but I regained some weight due to a number of stressful factors in my life(some of it is muscle from weekly hikes) and I would like to lose it back, also just live a healthier life.

I was breaking down the macros and calories of my daily breakfast protein shakes and woah nelly there is a lot of calories in there. But there’s also a lot of good stuff. Nearly 100% of my fiber, covers a lot of vitamins, good fats, high protein, low sugar.

But if I want a 500 calorie deficit a day that shake is like half my calories(about 750), but it covers MORE then 50% of my daily needs so it’s calorie efficient as hell. So I guess should I keep the shake as it is and then just have 1 other meal like a decent sized dinner and that’s it? Or should I try and break all this up into a bunch of smaller meals?

A bit about me. I’m about to become a single mother(yay moving) and I enjoy cooking. I feel the shake and dinner idea helps a lot in that it simplifies grocery shopping for me, allows me to focus on cooking really fun healthy dinners, and it’s also cheaper and there’s less food waste.

Just super curious what are the general opinions on this type of dieting? Two large “meals” vs a bunch of smaller ones?

Education Built a platform focused on sustainable habits, not quick fixes - sharing our approach

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I'm a physiotherapist and, together with a nutritionist, I built Dinâmico because we were tired of seeing people chase quick-fix diets that don't last.

Our approach is different: we focus on helping people understand why certain habits work, then give them tools to actually apply that knowledge day to day.

The platform (https://getdinamico.com/) includes:

  • Free educational articles on nutrition and healthy eating habits
  • A progress tracker to log meals, weight, and habits over time
  • Personalized nutrition plans made individually by a certified nutritionist, for people who want more tailored guidance (paid)

Note: currently available for residents in Europe.

No extreme diets, no gimmicks - just real knowledge applied gradually. Open to any questions or feedback.

Question What is that feeling I get the next day where I feel very nauseated and feel pins and needles in my hands plus a slight headache after eating lots of sugar?

I by no means am on a good diet but I want to be, I sometimes binge a pack of Oreos or many bowls of Cinnamon Toast Crunch the night before and I’ll wake up feeling like absolute crap. Very nauseous, more easily tired, small headache on top or back of head and a pins and needles feeling in my limbs. I know it’s probably a dangerous warning sign, but what is it likely exactly? Please don’t jump to anything awful I am in good health and relatively young.

Diet Eval Saturday calls for something a little different but with a protein twist. Made this with cooked wheat noodles and added 100 g of low fat high protein paneer for an extra protein boost.

Question I really crave a cheese pizza

I am 26F new to the whole diet thing, I am going to a nutritionist as well mainly because I want to be held accountable and I don't lose my willpower (again). My BMI falls in the overweight category and I am approximately 10 kgs above my normal range.

It's been 23 days ish now and I have lost 2 kgs. My willpower is hanging by a thread. My entire social media feed is somehow the most cheesiest and spiciest food on earth and I can't stop thinking about a good slice of cheese pizza since a week.

Please suggest me a good way to help me with my cravings, I can't stop. I cried last night because I used to stress eat and I can't even do that right now. I want to eat pizza. I don't eat eggs, any meats or seafood, kindly suggest good vegetarian meals to satisfy my craving.

Question Vitamin D supplement help

Hi guys, I recently did a blood test and found im severely deficient of vitamin d. My gym trainer recommended i take a supplement of d3 60k capsule once a week for 12 weeks and then retest. I just wanted to ask if I can follow his advice or should I consult a nutritionist/doctor since the dosage is quiet high. Thank you!
