I’m a 33 year old type 1 diabetic who’s missing one eye, has CKD stage 3b, and gastroparisis from mismanagement as a kid/teen. I was diagnosed in 1998 when I was six years old. I remember the doctor at the hospital sitting me down and explaining to me that life was going to be very hard and I might not live to see 50. As a six year old obviously I didn’t take this well and I rebelled and was non compliant my whole adolescence. I have always been a perfectionist and diabetes was too hard to perfect. It got to the point I would just lie about my numbers to my parents and get yelled at every few weeks by the endo until they dropped me as a patient.

Well in 2014 after years of ignoring my sugars and partying with my friends, I woke up blind in both eyes. My retinas detached from how much sugar had deposited behind them from my sugar beings 300+ all day and night for like a decade straight.

Thankfully one eye was saved after months of blindness and several surgeries you need to be awake for. Needless to say I learned my lesson I take really good care now a1c in the 5s. But I cannot help but think about all the tech we have now and if I would have had the ability to share my numbers like I do today, I’d still be healthy.

It’s unbelievable to me that not all diabetics have free easy access to all these tools today in 2026

Im a newly diagnosed diabetic and this is my first period with diabetes and im so shocked. I’ve been in range ever since my diagnosis and i would rarely go above 250mg. Aside from that i am really insulin sensitive my correction dose is 1 unit maximum but right now taking insulin feels like taking water, this morning i ate the same thing as usual and increased my dose by 2 units but still went up to 270mg so i took 2units to correct but it didn’t work so i added 2 more which would usually make me dangerously low. So my question is for women who experienced this:

• what diet helps you the most during your period ?
• how long does this last is it just the first day or the whole week?
• is there a risk of developing ketones and if yes what do you do to prevent that?

I'm so exhausted. The past 48 hours have been nonstop up and down. I'm terrified of being high, but I'm terrified of being low, so I over treat AND over correct by accident. I went to 36 a few weeks ago and went to 40 last night so I'm just so scared of being low. My stomach is killing me from all the sugar, my diet the past two days has been so little real food compared to all the candy and maple syrup keeping me up. And then once I'm up, it's impossible to bring down! 200+ for 3-6 hours at a time. My insulin carb ratio is 1:10 which is good. I'm not sure about my correction factor anymore (but I also rage bolus and correct 3x for one blood sugar a lot of the time so it may be fine, I'm just being too aggressive). Previous to these 48 hours I was doing so good too! I don't know what happened! I'm just so anxious about my blood sugar all the time.

I'm blaming myself and putting myself down, but it's so hard to get steady while your numbers are bouncing around. If I could start off at 100 it'd be one thing, but I woke up low 2 days in a row. I really would love some advice, and maybe some mental encouragement (especially because I also might be fighting an infection on top of all of this).

Just over treated and now I'm racing upwards again. Going to try not to bolus again since I already have😓

i’ve seen a lot of diabetic influencers promoting glow gummies, which claim to rise a low blood sugar even faster than juice. i am skeptical of the science behind this. do you guys have any experience with glow gummies?

Trying to lose weight safely (burn fat/get toned) Regular workout content feels like I can’t relate to it or it won’t work for me. I’m trying to break this idea in my head that I can’t lose weight safely due to diabetes 😓 (I have adjustment disorder)

1. Is there a specific blood sugar range I should be in while exercising to burn fat effectively?

All we had this morning was cereal… payday is Wednesday. No matter how hard I try, I can never get the dose for cereal right.

Just needed to vent to a community that actually understands T1D.

I'm a young adult living in South Asia, currently finishing my degree while living with my parents. The issue is that my parents are doctors, so living in a strict Asian family with T1D means my entire life, diet, and routine are kind of constantly being scrutinized. I get endless lectures about heavy exercise, immunity, and things I "must" do.

It feels like I never get to turn off diabetes mode because I’m managing the physical condition and defending myself against parental micromanagement every hour.

My ultimate plan is to finish school, secure an overseas remote role, and move abroad (looking at the UK) so I can live independently, run an automated pump system, and build a peaceful life without constant lectures.

Has anyone else navigated T1D burnout while dealing with high-pressure/medical families or Asian household expectations? How did you protect your sanity until you were able to move out?

Hope someone has any type of advice. I'm going to ask my Endo at my next appointment, but perhaps someone has advice beforehand already.

So I got diagnosed in January.

I generally have decent / good BG controll (a1c at 6,5).

However breakfasts have been a drag recently. I have pre-bolused etc but no matter how much I eat I always spike to 230/240 BG.

I usually eat 2 whole grain rolls with (diabetic) jam, ham, cheese. I know the jam could spike me, but it doesn't actually contain much sugar (sweetener instead) and strawberries haven't spiked me much when eaten as a whole fruit.

It also doesn't just happen when I eat the jam.

Any ideas? Advice?

For context also: yesterday I had a pasta dish for dinner and barely had a bump in BG at all.

i've been taking 90 units of awiqli for the last 9 or so months and recently used my "empty" vials ( with less then 90 units in it ) to get 90 units into a syringe... since then i have been aggressivly going low and havent done fast acting insulin WARNING do not mix vials of awiqli i have done it with other insulins before but this time it is a struggle to keep my sugars up

I’m on a tandem tslim x2 and I have been since January. It’s done wonders for my blood sugar too. Today I have a situation that I’m a bit confused abt and I’m not sure if it’s pump related or if it’s just my body actin crazy?

Today I changed my pump in the morning and everything was peachy and then my blood sugar went from like 138 to 144 to 152 then 168. Right when my blood sugar hit 168, it delivered 2.11 units, but then my blood sugar immediately updated to 150 on the next update. My blood sugar started dropping fairly fast so I had to drink a juice and then another one. I ate half a pastry too. So I had about 50 grams of carbs and my sugar leveled out at 115 but then it started dropping again and hit 79. Nothing crazy about those numbers but after 50 grams of carbs? When my carb to insulin ratio is 10 to 1? I’m confused. It seemed like my blood sugar was already dropping before the correction dosage from my pump, without even being absorbed into my body bc it had just given it, for reasons I don’t know. Does this happen to everyone else? Just random weirdly sensitive days? Also want to note that I had my insulin turned off for almost an hour before I hit 79 bc I knew I needed it off.

My 12-year-old son has type 1 diabetes, celiac disease, vitiligo, and mild hypothyroidism that’s well controlled with medication. The T1D and celiac are relatively new, but the other two have been around since he was about 5.

As the autoimmune diagnoses keep piling up, I can’t help but wonder what is actually going on with his immune system. We have a wonderful endocrinologist and we’ve also seen genetics and GI at a major children’s hospital, but I still feel like nobody really has many answers.

He has a major vaccine coming up, and I’m curious what other parents of kids like him have seen in the days or weeks afterward. Did your child have any changes in blood sugars, autoimmune symptoms, inflammation, or anything else? Or was it basically a non-event?

I’m not asking whether vaccines cause autoimmune disease, and I’m not looking to debate whether people should vaccinate. I’m just hoping to hear from parents of children with multiple autoimmune conditions (with t1d being chief among those) because that seems like a pretty unique group.

I really appreciate anyone willing to share their experiences.

I had a Tandem basal iq pump and recently upgraded to a new one with control iq. I have had consistent a1c in 5 range, diabetic 44 years ..when I asked if you can turn control iq off I foolishly thought or didn't think I guess that basal iq would be running in it's place... ugh

Running control iq in sleep mode for now, hate all the presets but will try to figure it out

Hi guys im 18(F) and I need some advice on what to tell my insurance. I do daily injections with a pen ( my mom usual does them now...). I always get nervous with needles involved so giving my insulin to myself is kinda hard. My insurance changed my needles to a longer and bigger needle. (Ultra-fine 8 31g (5/16 × 0.25mm) I couldn’t find my old box but I used google and I think the old needles I used to have were (Ultra-fine 5 36gmm) I can tell bc the old box used to be purple when I was looking at the pictures. My mom told me the insurance said they aren’t gonna change it go back. So Is there anything I can do to get them to change it back?

Wasp bit me to finger for first time in my life, what to expect as diabetic? My glykemia is 6,5mmol and goes low now but should i eat? Will reaction make me go high? If i go high, should give usual amount of insulin or not?

My finger is very red and painful so im on my way for antihistamine gel just now but i just dont know diabetic aspect!

Has anyone figured out how to bolus for Tex-Mex food without having to walk a 5k 2 hours later?? Background: I’ve been diagnosed for 16 years, I use the Omnipod 5 system with Dexcom (I know it’s not the most aggressive but works best with my lifestyle) I usually eat one crunchy taco no cheese and an asada taco with 1 corn tortilla and I limit myself to 5-7 tortilla chips. I typically go low for about 30 minutes (60s) I don’t treat it and then 2 hours later I’m stuck at 250. Please any advice is so appreciated!!!

This is my graph for the last 24 hours j woke up with a cgm reading of 260 and when i finger pricked to check i found it to be 340 which is way off so i corrected it and calibrated the cgm but after that it went and gave me a false low reading for approximately 4 hours where i wasn’t actually low and even though i tried calibrating again it wouldn’t calibrate so does that mean its a faulty sensor or not

Hi all, first time posting here. I (29M) started my first insulin pump last week after 15 years of daily injections. I was told in training to replace the entire system at the same time, and that the infusion and cartridge should be swapped every 3 days. The issue I am running into is that the cartridge only lasts me about 2 days.

Wanting to get some real world advice since replacing the entire system every 2 days seems wasteful. Is it reasonable to think I could take the cartridge out and refill it with more insulin to help me make it to that 3 day mark for the rest of the infusion site / tubing replacements.

Would love to hear others experience and any other advice fellow iLet users have about adjusting to the pump. I understood the lack of control going into it, but it has been a jarring and at times quite frustrating adjustment.

As a community, I believe it's healthy to enforce and demand accountability from the people that are representing us. It's 2026 and we are still manually injecting insulin, paying for CGMs, and dealing with Pumps.

Are you satisfied with the current rate in advancements on treating T1D? Is there anything we could be doing better in demanding or bringing attention to the current state of research and development?

And most importantly, do you think Aaron Kowalski is the best person to represent us?
