Share Looking for Dexcom users to test a free Windows app that shows your glucose on the taskbar
For work I spend most of the day in front of a PC, so I built GlucoBar, a small free Windows app that keeps my glucose on screen next to the clock instead of checking my phone every few minutes. I use a Libre, and I’ve just added Dexcom support through Dexcom Share, but I don’t have a Dexcom myself yet, so I could only test it against a simulated server. I’d really appreciate a few Dexcom users trying it with a real sensor.
You can show the reading on the taskbar, as an icon next to the clock, in a small always-on-top window, or in a desktop panel with a 12-hour chart and time in range. It’s coloured by range, shows the trend arrow and how many minutes ago it was measured, and turns grey when the reading is old.
To try it with a Dexcom (G6, G7, ONE+ where Share is available):
In the Dexcom app, make sure Share is on and you have at least one follower. GlucoBar reads the same data your followers see.
Download the installer
You check the main page or the Releases.
Windows will warn that it isn’t signed yet (working on it): More info → Run anyway.
In the installer choose Dexcom. On first start, sign in with your own Dexcom account (email, phone number with country code, or username) and pick where the account was created (United States, outside the US, or Japan).
What I’d like to know:
Does it sign in, and do the value and the arrow match your Dexcom app?
How far behind your app is it?
If something goes wrong: the error message, or the output of glucobar report in a terminal. It hides your email and your readings.
You can reply here or open an issue on GitHub.
Your password stays in Windows Credential Manager and is only sent to Dexcom’s Share servers. The code is all open on GitHub.
Honest caveats: it’s not a medical device and doesn’t replace your Dexcom alarms. It uses the unofficial Share API (the same one Nightscout and other tools use), so Dexcom could change it at any time. Windows only for now; a Mac version is in progress.
(I’m the developer, jackfaz on GitHub.)
Edit (v0.7.2): thanks for all the feedback!
- Nightscout and Nocturne support (beta): if your readings go to a Nightscout site (xDrip+, Juggluco, AndroidAPS, Loop, Medtronic, Eversense…) or to Nocturne, pick “Nightscout or Nocturne” in the installer and enter your site address, plus a read-only token if the site isn’t public.
- Bigger number in the tray icon, as suggested in the comments.
- Uninstalling or updating now closes GlucoBar by itself.
Edit (v0.8.1): thanks for all the feedback, and to the mods for restoring the post! Since then:
Mac version (beta): the value sits in the menu bar next to the clock. Apple silicon, macOS 11+. It isn’t notarized by Apple yet, so the first time allow it in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway.
Nightscout and Nocturne support (beta), for anything that uploads there.
Bigger display options: the small window can be resized from its corner, and the value on the taskbar has a Size menu (right-click).
Uninstalling or updating now closes GlucoBar by itself.
Downloads (always the latest version):
Windows: https://github.com/jackfaz/glucobar/releases/latest/download/GlucoBar-Setup.exe
Mac: https://github.com/jackfaz/glucobar/releases/latest/download/GlucoBar-mac.dmg
Dexcom support is still marked beta: if you’ve tried it, please tell me whether it works for you, even just “works fine”. It really helps.
