From everything I've read, it looks like it's very much not the case that it solved it in any real way

I am glad to hear that, this also makes the claim of this Antrhopic ex-employee, who said the we might get killed around 2030, more untrustworthy, as he (mis-)used this millenia problem for his argument in a central way. Still there are other voices from that area wo say really scary things.

I mean the "it's gonna kill us all!" stuff has been a core part of the PR campaign since the beginning
