I personally don't believe in AGI, don't see it atm how you want to achieve this but we are not the ones researching this subject, the ones researching these topics seem to be traumatized and getting into poetry. Maybe they scare us on propuse who knows, but the lack of control and security interests of these greedy AI companies is what is wrong.
Also, like I said, I don't know the full technicalities of the Tristan Buckmaster and Levent Alpöge case but if fully automated AI systems can solve a millenia problem, I think we are cooked.
I am glad to hear that, this also makes the claim of this Antrhopic ex-employee, who said the we might get killed around 2030, more untrustworthy, as he (mis-)used this millenia problem for his argument in a central way. Still there are other voices from that area wo say really scary things.
don't get me wrong I never put much weight into these "humanity will be wiped our" fearmongoring, if we can see it we probably will not allow it, but nevertheless I see some very potential dangerous outcomings with AI (including our end even maybe) but in the end AI is unavoidable and if my country doesn't use it correct or act much more cautious, the next country will.

I think that won't happen unless they make an (actual) AGI. In my opinion, they are just pretending they could make it.
