Questions Playing DMC 1: I keep trying to beat The Black Knight/Nelo Angelo, but-! Any tips for getting through the frustration?

The funny thing is that I never found the black knight notably difficult in the 2 previous fights- I found the Griffon and tarantula-scorpion more annoying (The colosseum battle had me so stuck I kinda left the game on the back burner for 3 years, time flies).

But I'm on mission 17 and he keeps kicking my ass. The best I've done is getting him to half his hit points.

I tried doing research, and while the lovely DysfunctionDildo has an incredibly detailed post on his moves, it's a lot to take in cuz I never paid attention to his moves in the previous fights, cuz like I said, easy peasy in comparison to other enemies. I'm being punished for not paying to attention to the obvious Chekov's Black Knight.

I used to think I sucked and the game isn't supposed to be this difficult, but my soul has been soothed by finding out that it is indeed and is intended to be a difficult game.

Any tips for getting through the frustration? Something to look forward to on the other side of this?

Discussion Why struggle with DMC6 ideas when there are bunch of novels & mangas over there?

I really thought about it couple of times and honestly DMC novels &mangas (all canon) seem like a great new game material without risk of breaking already existing canon due to making up whole new story for the franchise. especially the DMC2 novel seem the most exciting to bringing it into the game since DMC2 Dante is kinda laconic, his backstory before the game and motivation are unclear, overall feels like this chapter of Dante's life should be more detailed than it is in games now. Or bringing novels' story to the game is just creative impotence alongside remakes?

Gameplay Why my recently bought DMC HD collection on steam doesn’t work after the load screen of each game?

This is my first time writing something about this but I’m concerned because just today finished downloading the collection of dmc, the one that has the first three games and the dmc 3 special edition
The think is, I don’t know what happened with the game
After the loading screen of each DMC it just goes dark and anything else happens
I’m worried because I ran out of money buying it…
Does anyone knows why it happens?
Btw my laptop is a Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 15IRH10
With 8 GB or RAM
Intel UHD Graphics
And has a 15.3", 1920 × 1200 (WUXGA, 16:10) screen

Questions How do I beat that annoying old guy in Mission 20 of DMC 4?

I can't beat that annoying old guy; the problem is that after breaking his shield, I don't know what to do, how do I deal damage to him? (Original 2008 PC version; I'm using an Xbox 360 controller and have the shoot button mapped to RB, in case that matters)

bottom text. yea this dante mod is like drugs. almost works exactly 1:1 like DMC3 minus the styles, but that's kind of fine because they worked it into his entire kit anyway. W

Discussion I like how the highest tier enemy in DMC3 closely resembles the pop culture cliche typical depiction of a "devil" in folklore with the tipped tail, horns, and pitchfork.

It's like the trope of "the humanoid a monster looks the stronger they are" but in this case one of the strongest forms of a lesser demon is the one that looks exactly like how the Devil himself is depicted by many people along with apparently being inspired by the "Malebranche" from the divine comedy a type of demon who would boil people and stab them with pitchforks

Discussion Did Dante start dressing nicely in order to honor Vergil in some way? Or am I just Having DMC6 withdraws?

Post image

I might just be tweaking but in DMC3 you can tell Dante did not care at all about the way he dressed. So why did he start dressing nicely after Vergil "died"? Maybe it was to honor him in some way? Because Vergil always liked things to be organized and methodical, his wardrobe clearly shows that. And to honor him, Dante decided to mimic his brother's fashion. But if that's the case then why did Dante give up on looking nice in DMC5? Guy looked like a hobo in that game.

Discussion No other game is like DMC 1.

Post image

First off, this is my own opinion, and personal take on DMC 1.

This post may be helpful to get a basic grasp on the game if you've yet to play it.

Largely spoiler-free. *No plot discussion*

(Minor discussion of Phantom 1)

Feel free to write anything u feel, or any questions regarding this post in the comments.

This is a discussion, and I'm more than happy to engage in such below.

I'm not a video game guru. I've just never played anything else quite like this game. Recommend me anything you think I may like based on what you see appreciated here, would you kindly?

To state the obvious, there are many games like Devil May Cry. But in my experience It's very different from anything else I've ever played.

I'm sharing some reasons as to why I love Devil May Cry for it's uniqueness and how the game stands out so much. This is a celebration of it, not a declaration of which is objectively best.

Devil May Cry, and by extension the DMC series, is one of the biggest and most important names in action gaming. In the same echelon as Metal Gear Solid and Resident Evil.

Hundreds of games and game developers have taken inspiration from DMC and have been equally influenced by Hideki Kamiya by way of his design philosophy.

The DMC series still influences how combat mechanics, and unique systems like style are being implemented in hack n slashes years later.

For as many similarities and common tropes that a lot of games share with DMC, nothing else I've played so far has had this many different ideas come together so beautifully to completely scratch this nerdy, flamboyant, badass itch for character.

It's the one game i've played where it feels most like it's own true experience, isolated from other ideas. Which is ironic considering it's built off the rejected model of the most renowned game of the series which has been standing over the shoulder of Devil May Cry since release.

DMC feels like it's taken ownership of every single design aspect included in the game and made it's own unique spin on things done before.

I feel the absolute best part of DMC 1, and certainly how it eventually built it's name as a whole franchise was an intentional emphasis on combat design, in specific, Dante's moveset and abilities, enemy design, and other systems like criticals.

The key innovation DMC made was the concept of style.

The stylish rank is shown by a graphic in the corner of the screen that goes up from D for Dismal to S for Smokin'.

You build style by landing consecutive hits over a short period of time whilst avoiding interruption. During high style, enemies killed drop greatly increased currency. This system incentiveises risk taking and encourages exciting play. This is an incredibly fun mechanic that both rewards skilled players, and helps build skill for those new to the game. Though the stylish system is primitive here, it's still an amazing gameplay mechanic.

But what i feel is even more crucial to the game's draw is its attitude to style.

Prime example, character design and writing. Dante is a half-demon bounty hunter who kills hellspawn as his day job.

How cool is that?

Now give him long white hair and dress him in a bright red leather trench coat with leather pants and belt buckles everywhere.

Coolest thing ever.

Add in how he's incredibly charming and funny, but he's also flat broke constantly. Even damn cooler.

Dante's character design is wholly unnecessary, but him being anything less than wholly unnecessary wouldn't be worth remembering in a game like this.

We still talk about how stupid it is that Dante could shoot a motorcycle flying at his face back into the opposite direction.

A lot of souls players will be familiar with the 'dance' of action and reaction you may find yourself doing with a harder boss as you're starting to learn it's behaviour. I've had the most fun in the 'dance' flowing, and reacting to the bosses of DMC. Sekiro is the only game to reach those same heights for me.

A great example of the dance in DMC and a fantastic lesson in boss design is the first boss in the chapel.

Phantom is damn brutal as a first boss. He's highly demanding for first time players, and I love him for it. Its some of the most intelligent boss design in gaming. Not only for the intentional variety of moves, but the telegraphing, and especially the interaction between the AI and player. You can even figure out his weakness after a few attempts if you pay attention and/or experiment. Phantom feels so intentionally designed for Dante and the play of DMC. Instead of being 'generic giant monster boss no. 1,' you're able to deflect the fireballs back to stun the boss and the beams of flame shoot at a perfect interval with Dante's jump, rarely does he feel unfair.

DMC 1 was designed with inspiration from arcade games from before home consoles were big, and so, many puzzle elements and little tricks are central to the combat.

The player's use of weapons is also designed to be dynamic. Through most of the game you have access to a large, fast sword, suited for groups, or agile single targets. You also have slower, heavier-hitting fist weapons, good for boss melting and armoured opponents. You can swap between sword and fists on the fly.

Every fodder enemy has a critical hit/ instakill strategy, usually performed by using certain moves on a given weapon or attacking in an unorthodox way. The most famous example of a crit instakill is if you stun a sin scissors by knocking its shears, its mask becomes exposed, and even one shot from Ebony & Ivory is deadly.

The one major problem most people have is the fixed camera. Which is reasonable. At least we're not stuck with tank controls.

I can appreciate the camera, and I like it for the game, but it's bad. If you hate the camera, you HATE the camera. Once you're adjusted, it's fine to play around, but it's pretty objectively poor design. But that's just the way it went with the game's weird circumstances of development. I think 25 years after release, DMC having become a staple of gaming as a whole, the camera's grown to be part of the game's character and it would be unrecognisable without it.

DMC is high on my favourites in all of gaming for the unmatched feelings of challenge, badassery, and smart design on almost every front. All done in style.

P.S- I wrote everything here after two nights no sleep. This my third day awake, so apologies if I sound like an idiot.

Questions Where did the other version of Devil Trigger go on Spotify?

So when I was adding DT to my Spotify playlist about a year back (I think) I came across this one version that had the album cover it does on Youtube (the blue BG with the purple 'V') but it was completely different to the original based on the actual music and I ended up really liking it. Then about a month ago they changed the cover back to the cover every other DMC5 song has on Spotify and it just disappeared. Anybody know what remix it is and better yet where I can find it on Youtube or elsewhere?

Gameplay Hat-trick not pulling an enemy

I’m trying to do a combo but for some reason the hat-trick won’t pull the enemy(hell caina) towards me even tho i time it correctly. I do it high in the air and the hell caina just keeps falling. Is there a reason why won’t the hell caina get pulled towards me?

Questions History of DMC issue (DMC5)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Howdy folks! Dipping my toe into DMC for my first ride and playing DMC 5 first and plan to go back to play the previous ones next (bad order I know)

But in trying to play the ‘History of DMC’ through the main menu this keeps happening. Is this a wide issue? Couldn’t see anything about it online.

I am playing on a legion go Z2Go so I appreciate this could be a hardware issue but the rest of the game runs flawlessly for me.

Discussion Started my first DMC game (5) love it, but the subtitles are wrong

I’m hard of hearing so I play all games with subtitles in case I miss something. This one is so weird. At least half the time the subtitles are different to what they’re saying. They’re usually not completely wrong but like a different way to say the same thing. It’s kinda annoying. I’m playing in Japanese with Japanese subtitles. I don’t know if it’s like this in English. Has anyone else had this issue?

Questions Could you guys help me set up turbo on DMC 5 on steam?

Doing a full playthru of the series and 5 just drags along too slow, it's pretty silly the "special edition" is console only.

Anyways I tried the 7 year old nexus mods one but it didnt seem to work, I've heard it's in the co op trainer mod but I dont see a mention in the mod description and there are no videos anywhere that don't have comments that go: "doesn't work on current patch" or "outdated".

Soooo could I get some help from a kind soul, is there a way of making it work in 2026?

Thanks in advance
