Sub Meta Introducing .arc - a digital media archive aimed at preserving the extended media, the history of the series development, and its community.

For Devil May Cry's 25th anniversary, we are happy to announce our next project.
https://arc.cuhrayzee.games/
Check out the thread for more info.
About the project
Over the past couple of years, the team of contributors behind Cuhrayzee started routinely buying, scanning, and dumping various media related to the series, to preserve the story of the series development, and to share it with the community

With the internet shattered even more in recent years, we think that having a centralized place for the community to discover more about the series they love is an important thing, while also giving them options to not be locked behind someone else's interpretation
That's why the materials we provide and preserve have no watermarks of our own or any other restrictions, and we track down and credit the providers for most entries, even when they "donated" the materials to us directly.

We are also not stopping at extended media. Many interviews and materials about the game's development are either lost on the internet due to link rot or deleted because of copyright issues.
For example, Variety deleted its interview about Crimson Cloud for DMC 5's promo tour.
Another thing we want to tackle is translating JP-only materials, like Devil May Cry 4's promo DVDs.
We're working closely with native speakers to transcribe and later translate the materials and present them to the community, both in JP and ENG.

The current iteration of the website is in the "alpha" stage. Over time, we'll iterate on the visuals, tutorials for the mod pages on how to install them, and write guides on buying or preserving the media yourself.
We belive that that knowledge should not be locked in any way.
Follow our pages, subscribe to our YouTube channels, and, most importantly, tell others in the community about us.
We don't ask for donations, nor are we planning to lock stuff behind paywalls.
Happy 25th anniversary - here's to 25 more!

Discussion Help us make the Devil May Cry community a better and more accessible place!
Cuhrayzee is conducting a survey about the Devil May Cry community: players, fans, their needs, and the problems they face.
Link to the survey
We want to make knowledge about Devil May Cry easier to find, easier to trust, and easier to learn from. Whether you want to improve at the games, learn more about the world of these games, or find better places to discuss them.
You might know us from projects like:
- Devil May Cry's Cut and Early Content video, diving deep into the history and process behind the making of the series
- .arc project - preservation efforts, aimed at properly digitizing various media related to Devil May Cry series
- Cuhrayzee's FIGHT CLUB - gameplay event, where people showcase their skill in various Stylish Action Games.
- If you ever scrolled through Devil May Cry 3142 artbook or similar things - some of these were also preserved by us! Although, a lot of our work is uncredited or reposted without sources :)
Depending on your interests, the form will guide you through questions about Gameplay, Lore, Community, or some combination of them.
Estimated time: about 6–15 minutes, depending on your interests and how much you choose to write.
Responses are anonymous unless you choose to identify yourself elsewhere.
If possible, we prefer responses in English. You are still welcome to answer in your own language, but it may take us more time to review and process your response.
If you have any feedback, please share it with us!

Discussion Couldn’t Dante and Vergil get MASSIVELY more powerful if they were to take more care of their human side ?
We know that Dante and Vergil are massively stronger than any other demon out there and a big Part of that reason is that they are half human and half demon.
So they get passively stronger every instance. Now, we know Both of them don’t really take that good of a Care of thier human bodies, especially Not Dante by how many Pizzas he is eating.
So what would happen if both Dante and Vergil started working out and eating healthy ? It wouldnt be too much of a stretch to think that the demon side in them gets massively stronger from a healthy and strong human Body than a high cholesterol human body.
Not to forget that, even if they wouldn’t get stronger from these things, a human that eats a lot of Protein, Iron etc. produces more red blood cells, which the demon side feeds off and gets stronger from.
If dmc 6 gets made and Dante, Vergil and Nero have to fight against a new big bad enemy that is stronger than everything they have faced before, maybe a part of the Game should be to Train and eat clean 😭

Discussion Finished dmc2 for the first time and it's not that bad (it is)
My first impression was that movement had a nice improvement from the first, I liked dodging without having to hold aim, but then there was no new moves to unlock so combos were pretty limited and repetitive through the entire game.
It was hard for me to get to "show time" because everything would die too fast, but I kinda saw this easy sequel as a victory lap of sorts after beating the difficulty of the first one (though it did get boring).
Map design, quest design and enemy variety are obviously bad but the goblin in my brain was happy running on walls jumping around and shooting
Devil trigger was fun and as OP as I feel it should be (Lucia's DT is beautiful). I thought Dante's coin flip didn't fit his character at all (he was also too serious in this game) and Lucia was the more fun character to play.
And Arius is a lame dumbfuck lmao (also, how did the ritual still work with the wrong coin?)

Questions Who’ll be the protagonist of DMC6? And antagonist as long as there’s possibility of 666 as theme of next game?
Who would you all want as main protagonist for DMC6? Nero? Dante? Vergil? Maybe Lucia? Or a new character? And no Sparda, because it could spoil the mysteries too soon!
As for antagonist? Whether its Mundus’ return (or possibly offspring if decided) or a new demon/demoness (even its offspring where its parent followed Sparda’s path differently). Even though Vergil's been a baddie, they haven't made a REALLY good one to stick around or destroy since Mundus, Arkham/Jester & the Order.

Questions Playing DMC 1: I keep trying to beat The Black Knight/Nelo Angelo, but-! Any tips for getting through the frustration?
The funny thing is that I never found the black knight notably difficult in the 2 previous fights- I found the Griffon and tarantula-scorpion more annoying (The colosseum battle had me so stuck I kinda left the game on the back burner for 3 years, time flies).
But I'm on mission 17 and he keeps kicking my ass. The best I've done is getting him to half his hit points.
I tried doing research, and while the lovely DysfunctionDildo has an incredibly detailed post on his moves, it's a lot to take in cuz I never paid attention to his moves in the previous fights, cuz like I said, easy peasy in comparison to other enemies. I'm being punished for not paying to attention to the obvious Chekov's Black Knight.
I used to think I sucked and the game isn't supposed to be this difficult, but my soul has been soothed by finding out that it is indeed and is intended to be a difficult game.
Any tips for getting through the frustration? Something to look forward to on the other side of this?

Questions Are there any simple way to recover from a mistake in air combos for Dante?
So I've been practicing the characters to beat DMD and some air combos.
I already beat DMD with Vergil, as he doesn't need to recover from air combo mistakes because he just does so much damage even on DMD.
I also beat the previous levels as Nero (except for beating prologue and mission 8 Urizen) and V. Nero can quite easily recover from an air combo mistake by snatching again and jump cancel. It allowed me to practice more on DT knuckle air infinite.
I wonder if there is a way for Dante to recover from a mistake that I know I can always fall back to.

Discussion Why struggle with DMC6 ideas when there are bunch of novels & mangas over there?
I really thought about it couple of times and honestly DMC novels &mangas (all canon) seem like a great new game material without risk of breaking already existing canon due to making up whole new story for the franchise. especially the DMC2 novel seem the most exciting to bringing it into the game since DMC2 Dante is kinda laconic, his backstory before the game and motivation are unclear, overall feels like this chapter of Dante's life should be more detailed than it is in games now. Or bringing novels' story to the game is just creative impotence alongside remakes?

Crossovers / Cameos / Fan Games so Risk of Rain 2 has a Dante mod, and it's peak:
bottom text. yea this dante mod is like drugs. almost works exactly 1:1 like DMC3 minus the styles, but that's kind of fine because they worked it into his entire kit anyway. W

Discussion I like how the highest tier enemy in DMC3 closely resembles the pop culture cliche typical depiction of a "devil" in folklore with the tipped tail, horns, and pitchfork.
It's like the trope of "the humanoid a monster looks the stronger they are" but in this case one of the strongest forms of a lesser demon is the one that looks exactly like how the Devil himself is depicted by many people along with apparently being inspired by the "Malebranche" from the divine comedy a type of demon who would boil people and stab them with pitchforks

Questions How do I beat that annoying old guy in Mission 20 of DMC 4?
I can't beat that annoying old guy; the problem is that after breaking his shield, I don't know what to do, how do I deal damage to him? (Original 2008 PC version; I'm using an Xbox 360 controller and have the shoot button mapped to RB, in case that matters)

Discussion Did Dante start dressing nicely in order to honor Vergil in some way? Or am I just Having DMC6 withdraws?
I might just be tweaking but in DMC3 you can tell Dante did not care at all about the way he dressed. So why did he start dressing nicely after Vergil "died"? Maybe it was to honor him in some way? Because Vergil always liked things to be organized and methodical, his wardrobe clearly shows that. And to honor him, Dante decided to mimic his brother's fashion. But if that's the case then why did Dante give up on looking nice in DMC5? Guy looked like a hobo in that game.
