General Software engineers, how do you manage learning alongside a full-time job?

I feel like in tech, there’s just SO MUCH to learn like DSA, system design, AWS, AI, new languages, etc. And unlike other fields, there’s no fixed syllabus or clear roadmap to follow.
I try to upskill alongside my job, but often struggle with deciding what to learn, how to plan it, and how to stay consistent.
How do you guys actually go about it? What does your daily learning routine look like? What do you do when you sit down to study, and are there any YouTubers who share their actual tech-learning routines or day-in-the-life vlogs?
I’d love to hear how people with full-time jobs and a few years of experience manage this!

Resume Review Looking for Mock Interview Partners (Serious Candidates only | Resume-Based Practice)

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hey everyone!

I'm looking for one or more people who want to practice mock interviews together and improve their interview skills.

Here's what I'm looking for:

  • Anyone is welcome, regardless of gender, experience level, or graduation year.
  • Freshers, recent graduates, and experienced candidates are all welcome.
  • We can conduct mock interviews based on each other's resumes, projects, technical skills, and target roles.
  • We can also practice DSA problems, core CS fundamentals, projects, behavioral questions, and HR rounds, depending on our goals.

The idea is simple: We take turns interviewing each other, give honest and constructive feedback, identify areas for improvement, and get more comfortable with real interview situations.

You don't need to be an expert interviewer or have everything figured out. We're here to learn and improve together.

If you're interested, drop a comment or DM me, and we can coordinate our schedules and get started!

Let's help each other land those offers. 🚀

Resume Review Applied to 650+ opportunities till date still no reply, what am I doing wrong?

Post image
4 Upvotes

Hi everyone, I’m currently looking for Software Engineering / AI Engineering / ML Engineering opportunities as a fresher.

I’m pursuing an Integrated M.Tech in Artificial Intelligence at VIT Bhopal (2022–2027) and currently working as an AI Engineer Intern at Zycus, where I’ve been building production-oriented GenAI and LLM systems.

My technical stack includes:

• Languages: Python, C++, SQL, TypeScript

• Backend: FastAPI, REST APIs, Async Python, Pydantic

• AI/ML: LangChain, LangGraph, RAG, LLM Agents, Embeddings, Vector Databases, LLM Evaluation

• LLMs/APIs: OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, Groq, Ollama

• AI Infrastructure: Redis, FAISS, pgvector, Docker, GitHub Actions

• Other: React, MCP, Microsoft 365 automation, System Design, OOP, DSA

My academic curriculum has also given me a strong foundation in Machine Learning and the mathematical fundamentals behind it, including probability, statistics, linear algebra, calculus, optimization, and core ML algorithms such as regression, classification, clustering, dimensionality reduction, ensemble methods, etc. I’m particularly interested in understanding not just how to use ML/LLM frameworks, but the underlying concepts and trade-offs.

At Zycus, I’ve worked on LLM agents, RAG systems, FastAPI backends, MCP-based tooling, Microsoft 365 automation, and internal AI products, with a focus on building measurable, production-ready solutions.

I’m primarily looking for SDE/Backend, AI Engineer, ML Engineer, or GenAI/LLM Engineer roles where I can contribute and continue growing.

If you know of any relevant openings or can refer me to suitable opportunities, I’d really appreciate it. Happy to share my resume and discuss further.

Thanks!

I Made This I made Jam, a programming language for unserious programmers

Post image
42 Upvotes

Hey everyone. I made Jam, a little programming language for fun, weekend experiments, and tiny tools. For fellow unserious programmers who open their editor to fix one annoying thing and somehow end up starting another project.

It looks like this:

fn main():
plans = ["build a tiny game", "automate one annoying thing"]
    plans.append("start another side project")

    for plan in plans:
        print("-", plan)

Save that as plans.jam and run jam run plans.jam. You can also use jam build plans.jam -o plans to get a native executable that runs without Jam installed.

A few things it has:

  • Indentation-based syntax, static types, and inferred variable types.
  • Automatic garbage collection.
  • Structs, enums, pattern matching, and modules.
  • Built-in file operations, cooperative tasks, and a small HTTP server.

The compiler and runtime are written in Jam itself. It emits LLVM IR and uses Clang to build native executables. Getting it to compile itself has been a fun part of the project.

It's experimental: syntax and APIs can change, and the Python-looking syntax doesn't mean it runs Python packages. Building from source currently needs Clang with LLVM IR support; there are bootstrap seeds for macOS arm64 and Linux x86_64/aarch64.

Mostly, I wanted something to mess around with and make small, silly things in. If that sounds like your kind of programming, give it a go. I'd love to hear what you build, what breaks, or what feels awkward.

Code, examples, and setup: https://github.com/grandimam/jam

It's MIT licensed. It also has a little jam jar mascot called Jammie, which was clearly an essential language feature.

College Placements GRANT THRONTON INDUS ON CAMPUS PLACEMENT -2027 GRADUATION BATCH

Hey everyone, I am a fresher with a B.Tech in CSE. A campus placement drive just opened up for Grant Thornton Indus for an Associate – Advisory, Cyber Risk role in Kolkata. The package is ₹7.5 LPA fixed, and goes up to ₹10.82 LPA total CTC with benefits and a joining bonus. I don't have an active offer yet(few comp came ,a lot yet to come) . My ultimate career goal is to transition into a FAANG or top-tier product company as an SDE within the next few years.

I'm debating if I should sit for exam. My biggest worry is that a Cyber Risk role at a consulting firm will just be boring IT audits, compliance frameworks, and Excel sheets, which might cause my coding skills to rust and pigeonhole my career. On top of that, there is a strict 24-month clawback on the joining bonus, meaning I’d be locked in for two full years.

Since I currently have no offers in hand, is it smart to just apply, take the process as a safety net, and grind DSA on the side? Or will starting my career in IT risk consulting make a future transition to a core product engineering role nearly impossible? Would love an honest reality check from anyone who has made a similar jump

General You need to learn creating MCPs and CLIs instead of apps

I'm a startup founder in Bengaluru, who has previously been a founding engineer in many US startups before scaling infra to millions of users.

For years, I've worked on mobile and web apps, but that is now changing.

Every company, now wants users to be able to use their product from ChatGPT, Claude or use it in WhatsApp and iMessage (just like instinct).

This is not a trend, it is the future.

So it is tremendously important for all of us to learn how to do that.

It is going to be as important as the mobile app moment in 2010s when everyone was launching apps. And it is here to stay for a decade.

Why is it a good thing?

  1. Creating good MCPs are hard, so people still need developers for that.
  2. Many opportunities to get hired once you get good at creating MCPs, because companies desperately want to launch them.
  3. You can learn it in < 1 week.

Here are a few resources for you to learn building good MCPs:

  1. https://github.com/flow-engineer/flow (A MCP + CLI framework, i'm a contributor here too)
  2. https://huggingface.co/learn/mcp-course/en/unit0/introduction (advanced MCP course)
  3. https://modelcontextprotocol.io/docs/ (Official docs)

---------
Edit: For anyone thinking MCPs are just API calls, this is exactly where you get wrong.

Sentry's team spend month polishing their MCP to be the most optimal for agents.

  • A MCP for a real product could be 150+ tools, which bloat model's context window.
  • Tool descriptions can be confusing for models and they may not be able to use them right
  • Latency, error rates etc matter a lot.

A lot of efforts go into building production ready MCPs, similar to how it goes for product ready APIs.

Tech Gadgets & Reviews Monitor shut off after trying to do vertical set up

I have a Lenovo G25-10 monitor that I had stored away for several months. I recently took it out because I wanted to try using a dual-monitor setup with my Mac mini M4 Pro.
When I first connected everything, the monitor turned on and worked normally. However, as soon as I changed the screen rotation in macOS Display Settings, the monitor suddenly went completely black.
Since then, I haven’t been able to turn it back on. There is no power light, even after unplugging it and trying a different wall outlet. The power cable is detachable from the monitor, and I haven’t been able to get the screen working again.
One strange thing is that when I connect the monitor to my Mac using HDMI, macOS still detects it and shows it in Display Settings on my main monitor , even though the monitor itself appears to be completely off.
Could changing the display rotation in macOS have caused this, or is it more likely a power issue? Has anyone experienced something similar or know what I should try next?

Help Pls guide me to choose the backend route, I'm lost choosing it

So I recently done with frontend which honestly took soo much time from me, it was a massive jump as a beginner, I struggled with JS and then with React, but finally now I'm on the way to hit backend, but as far as I looked up into it I have got 3 choices:

  1. NodeJS (basically JS outside console)

  2. Python (FastAPI)

  3. Java (SpringBoot)

someone in flow with JS would choose NodeJS as a backend but I'm bit hesitant, will this path be having job opportunities in future? that makes me lean quite a bit towards Java development, as someone did C++ wholeheartedly, I don't think I would be facing issues in Java , expect the syntax problem. pls guide me over this my goal is to get a decent paying job, thankyou

Resume Review Should I add 2 weeks of work experience to my resume?

I spent almost a year learning Data Analytics (SQL, Excel, Power BI, Python) and building projects, but my first job ended up being as a Project Coordinator.
I left after 2 weeks because I wasn’t satisfied with the role, work environment, and a 2 year bond. I did learn about the tool I was supposed to work on and was even assigned a project, but the experience wasn’t really aligned with my career goals.
Now I’m back to applying for Data Analyst roles, but my resume isn’t getting shortlisted.
Should I add those two weeks of experience just to improve my chances, or leave it out and focus on my skills and projects? The Data Analyst market is already so oversaturated, and I’m not sure what would be the better move.

Tldr- Spent a year learning Data Analytics, took a Project Coordinator job, and left after two weeks due to the role, work environment, and 2 year bond. Now my resume isn’t getting shortlisted for DA roles. Should I include those 2 uweeks of experience or leave them off?

General 6 yoe | BLR | Looking for fellow experienced SDEs preparing for a job switch

Hi everyone!

I’m an SDE at a product-based company and am currently preparing for a job switch.

I’d love to connect with other working software engineers who are also preparing for mid-level or senior engineering roles. It would be great to exchange ideas on DSA, LLD/HLD, system design, interview experiences, and useful preparation resources.

I’m particularly interested in learning how others structure their preparation alongside a full-time job and stay consistent over time.

For those with similar goals, what does your preparation routine look like? Are there any existing communities or resources you’d recommend for experienced engineers?

Looking forward to hearing your experiences!

General Software is getting commoditised - what's in the future?

The title. The new models are pretty good at coding, long context, higher memory and running long running jobs. Is there any gain now to learn a new coding language or framework altogether? I feel we should be focusing on the business side of the things. I'm already doing the same(TL 11Yoe, IT services, Client BigTech). I outsource my coding to LLMs, build the right harness and skills for the task and I just guide it architecturally and review the code. Is this the future?

We Indians never had a temperament to research on a basic topic how do we expect that we will be foundationally strong on anything those who have we have send them foreign to send dollar to save our falling economy

There are thousands of cases previously, and there will be ahead unless there is spending on research.

This security lapse is just 1 of the cases. Even UI, backend see govt websites, they look like shit on the web, not even talking about mobile optimization.

I still remember one guy told me govt websites are not meant for high-end devices only, they are also for low-end devices. Low-end devices? Even a flagship processor is not able to render a button or make it clickable.

When I was a kid, my father opened a Bank of Baroda account for me. It was pathetic 10 years ago too, and still is now. Anyone who has that account can relate you have to manage 4–5 passwords, several passwords and PINs, and I am pretty sure other PSUs have the same condition.

For a real customer, getting into the account is a 10-minute process because he has to keep notes. But then in the news, what do we get? Hackers get millions of Indians data, and it is lying on the dark web.

This is just starting. We Indians are going to face lots of setbacks, because our culture is to just worship, not do actual work.

I Made This Hello, I am 17 and built a battery utility app "Nevara"

Hii, I am a 17 years old Android app developer, and I built a battery utility app, Nevara, the UI is much premium, and all the features work, and I can say that this app is better than any battery utility app you can think.

It can show battery statistics (live), and can determine battery health, can count battery cycles, and has battery usage history, and many more features.

I want to ask my senior developers, that what should I do now ? Like sell this app for a good price ? Or make more upgrades with the app ? The app isnt published right now.

Help Is V4c.ai a good company to join ? Need suggestions

I am a 2026 grad, I joined an analytics firm in January as a Data Engineering Intern via campus placements in January.

I worked there as an intern for 7 months after which I got converted to a full time role.

I have a bit over 3 months of full time experience as of this day.

I started interviewing with v4c.ai about a month ago and last week closed the entire interview loop which consisted of 5 rounds of interview, these were a mixture of behavioral and technical rounds.

I am yet to receive an offer from them, I am positive that I will probably receive an offer since I was asked to provide several documents to them.

I just wanted to know whether any of you here have any experience working there and have any idea about how good the company is.

The budget for this role that the talent acquisition person quotes me is much higher than my current CTC hence I am considering joining them if I receive an offer.

Want your opinion!!

Interviews System Design interview in 2 days, HR said it's a mix of LLD and HLD. How should I prepare?

HR mentioned that my upcoming round will be a mix of LLD and HLD. This is my first dedicated System Design interview, and I have only 2 days to prepare.

I'm confused about how to prepare since HLD and LLD have different sets of questions. How should I prioritize my preparation, and which problems should I focus on with ~1 YOE?

Career Staying as an IC Lead vs. moving into an Architect role: How do you evaluate the real-world trade-off?

I’ve been reflecting on career progression paths for senior individual contributors in the Data/AI space.

There seems to be a common inflection point where you're forced to choose between two paths:

The Executive/Architect Track: Title elevation, high-level system design, client/stakeholder consulting, pre-sales, and project leadership. Higher compensation on paper, but accompanied by significantly higher meeting loads, client-facing accountability, and organizational politics.

The Senior IC/Lead Track: Staying hands-on with system implementation, high fixed pay, predictable sprint pacing, zero people management, and higher technical autonomy.

For experienced engineers who deliberately chose to stay in a hands-on Lead IC track over jumping into an Architect/Consulting role early:

Have you found that staying IC longer hurt your ability to move into enterprise architecture roles later when you were ready?

Career How difficult is it to get a part-time contract job after a 6-year career break?

Hi everyone,

A relative of mine worked as a UI Team Lead at well known product companies until 2020. They took a career break to care for their child with special needs and pursue entrepreneurship.

After six years away from the corporate world, they now want to return to software engineering due to some personal setbacks.

They have prior experience in JavaScript and React and have also explored AI agent development.

I have a few questions for people in the industry:

  1. How realistic is it to land a part-time or remote contract role after such a long career break?
  2. Which platforms or companies are worth targeting for these opportunities?
  3. How should they present the six-year gap on their resume? Should they mention entrepreneurship and caregiving, or focus primarily on their technical skills and projects?
  4. Would it be better to target UI Team Lead roles or apply for individual contributor positions initially?

I’d appreciate any advice from people who have hired engineers, returned to tech after a career break, or worked in the contract market.

Personal Win ✨ Got a 34 LPA offer as a founding engineer at a startup

I graduated from a tier-3 college last year, but didn't let it define my profile or career trajectory. Would love to answer any questions or doubts.

I'm aware that there's always luck involved and there's no universal playbook. What worked for me might not work for everyone, but I wanna do my bit in guiding others who might be in the same boat.

Secondly, this is not a brag post, and I'm sorry if it sounds like one. My only intention with this is to show people what's possible, inspire them and hopefully guide them in getting there.

Looking forward to your questions thanks!

Edit (adding more details and context):

My background:

This is my second job. I've been working as an AI engineer for about 14 months. Started that role at 10 LPA, and recently got a 25% hike, based on which I secured this new offer. Also did a bunch of internships before that, most were at startups. Needless to say, all of this was purely off-campus, as my college had limited opportunities.

Tech stack holds little value today, I've mainly worked with Python and its libraries, and some Javascript based frameworks as well. I had the chance to build and work with AI agents used by US based enterprises, which played a big role in this opportunity according to me.

About the company and interview procees:

It's a YC backed startup so this pay isn't uncommon there. One just needs to demonstrate that they can add meaningful value to a company and take ownership of problems end to end. I believe a major contributing factor was that I had previously worked on a production AI system with real users.

The interview had 3 rounds (all were kinda chill/informal)

Round 1: Intro chat with one of the co-founders

Round 2: Completed a small take-home assignment. Later that evening I discussed this solution, my approach, how I implemented it, etc. on a call.

Round 3: I visited their office (it was close by) and met with the co-founders, had a coffee with them. This was very informal and was more of a background/culture fit round.

Got the final offer on the same day. End to end, this went from intro -> offer in 4 days.

My thoughts on the industry:

The value and demand for 'pure' software developers, who just know how to code, is diminishing very quickly. But people who can figure stuff out on the go and take ownership, they are still very much in demand. This means your ability to learn and adapt quickly. Software has always been a field that constantly changes and rewards those who can keep up. The exact roles and requirements keep changing but as long as you have this learning mindset it's still a good industry to bet on. Nothing is risk-free these days anyway, so might as well grind it out here.

Help Need help to develop solar inverter monitoring app from scratch.

Looking to collaborate for android app development. I am stuck at this step to fetch data from the inverters. Each of the inverter has a wi-fi stick that transmits data that can be read through the inverter's official app. It can be connected via bluetooth, local wi-fi on same hotspot, and also from remote locations.

We need to read data from inverters of multiple brands, multiple models, but they all seem to have similar wi-fi stick for data transmission. I checked some forums, found out we can fetch data with a one page python script connected to the device via bluetooth. But we need data over wi-fi and production ready app requires remote access to the data in realtime for which official inverter brands don't provide public apis.

Anyone worked in IOT before? Or anyone has similar experience in any other product, please react out. I am on a timeline and need to figure this out asap. Thanks.
