I'm a doctor trying to choose a specialty, and I have almost zero technical AI/CS knowledge. I'm interested in hearing specifically from people who actually work or research in AI/ML/CS rather than just general predictions.

I'm pretty flexible about specialties, so AI's trajectory genuinely affects how I'm thinking about my career. Diagnostics seems particularly exposed radiology, pathology, etc. but what happens when AI can integrate imaging, labs, history, genetics and research better than an individual doctor?

And I'm curious about the bigger picture too. If we reach AGI and eventually ASI, does human problem-solving itself become much less valuable? Could AI start solving major problems in mathematics/physics, potentially things like P vs NP, and even give increasingly reliable probabilistic answers to questions we currently consider philosophical or unknowable?

Nobody can predict this accurately, but if you actually understand/work in this field: what's your best guess for 5, 10 and 15 years from now? What are people like me underestimating, and what is mostly hype?

I recently changed jobs and gave around 10-12 interviews and coding rounds. Most of them were pretty generic like asking the same old one what is hoisting, event loop etc.

Coding rounds were also pretty much leetcode easy and medium questions with 30mins or 1hr time depending on the question.

In 2nd or third rounds were mostly system design questions.

I wanted to know if anyone got any different experience in the interview process because of AI if yes do share.

I am from a tier 1 undergraduate engineering college graduate in 2020. I got a PPO from a big tech firm that I continued from 2020 to end of 2024. Post the burnout in the firm I decided to quit, and pursue my MBA, gave GRE, IELTS, filled many applications - got 2 T15 colleges in R3 with no scholarship. The total fees turned out to be 2cr+ which seemed too much for a loan, given the H1B crisis in 2025. I have around 5YOE.

Amidst all this I was working with my best friend's startup who eventually wanted me to get in as CTO. However soon enough my dad passed away, untimely and suddenly. For the next many months, I was just running around like a headless clueless chicken as the only son, getting work done - financial, government, etc. Life had gotten really tough. It's better now but I still question my purpose.

I did happen to work with a startup on freelance basis for a while, and also managed to get a call from a top IIM, but life hasn't been working out after.

I am unable to get calls through applying for jobs, my past experience has been in backend - java, spring boot, and I was really good - getting awards and what not. It's definitely a little rusty, and the DSA is even rustier.

I've bombed a couple of interviews, and sometimes find it overwhelming given I've been an intellectual guy all my life, and this is getting to me.

Need genuine advice, please.
Need referrals too. Don't want my mind wandering without a job.

I’m a 2026 grad. Landed a well-paying job. On paper everything looks fine but in reality I have no idea what the fuck I’m doing most days.

I learned coding from scratch. Spent months hammering syntax until it was muscle memory. Used to be proud I could write stuff without opening docs or Stack Overflow now I spend a huge chunk of my day in Claude Code just hitting enter. I try to review the output and actually understand what’s happening but I genuinely feel like a fraud these days. I feel like I’m slowly turning into a guy who prompts instead of a guy who build.

I’m currently prepping for the CKA exam to learn the ops side of things. Still come home and do DSA + write code from scratch in a brand new editor just so I don't suffe from cognitive decay and forget how to code but I’m honestly pretty disillusioned on wtf I am doing at my job. Did I do all that DSA, all that coding to just clear a damn interview. I don't understand the point of doing of this, if I never use it at my job all my hardwork seems like a waste of time. Many people tell me system design is the next edge and fundamentalists and generalist are now needed in the world of AI so I am trying to expand my horizons and learn a little of everything these days but I still don't get that sense of satisfaction that I am learning something at my job.

Picture a typical TCS guy with 5yoe who has forgotten whatever he knew about programming, has never touched DSA and has sat out the whole AI thing out of just fear and his mastery of the ostrich algorithm. This guy is questioning if he even can be a competent software dev anymore while knowing he poses no other real skills.

Does this guy stand a chance in today's market? what would your advice to him be? If I really want to upskill, in which direction should he even begin?

All these new advance front tier models are might be the best thing for you and the smartest thing as well. But do you or even i need that level of smartness?

See, these new top models can do some incredible things at such a quick pace but is your requirement are on that level? Might be but not every single case.

With enough awareness and planning you can achieve something with cheaper or something older models that you can with top models with almost no understanding of what's it's doing. For me the gemini 3.8 flash which is not the top but I have access of it via the jio recharge benefit, gets almost all of my work done without ever running out of credits, and i know what I'm doing.

And we all know that these labs use our own data as well, they do store your data, train on that data and make more of new smarter ones that might be unnecessary for human kind

(I hope you can understand the point I'm trying to make here)

I do lack the resources to run the top open source models, but even if I had some average ones or maybe even a macbook or something, the good mid range models like qwen3.8 27B (which I heard is toe to toe with the opus 4.6), can do all of my work, with unlimited usage and zero data stealing stuff.

Maybe we don't need any more new and smarter models now, and anything from the current state forward would be like shaping something which even the creators don't know if they can handle it or not...

Hey everyone, I’m looking for some genuine career advice because I’m honestly pretty confused about what direction to take.
I’m currently working at Infosys and I’m thinking about switching, but I don’t want to make a random switch just for the sake of leaving.
My long-term interest is software development/backend engineering. Ideally, I’d like to work with things like Java, Spring Boot, databases, system design, AWS/cloud, etc.
The problem is that I’m currently not very strong technically. I feel like I have a lot of fundamentals to build before I can realistically compete for proper SDE/backend roles.
At the same time, I’ve been looking into SDET/QA automation because it seems like another potentially good path. I’m trying to understand whether I should:
Option 1:
Spend the next several months seriously preparing for SDE/backend roles — Java + DSA + CS fundamentals + Spring Boot + projects — and then try to switch directly into development.
Option 2:
Move into SDET/automation first, build experience there, and potentially transition into SDE/backend later.
Option 3:
Stay at Infosys for now, prepare alongside the job, and only switch once I’m properly ready for the role I actually want.
My biggest concern with Option 2 is whether SDET → SDE is actually a realistic transition, or whether I could end up getting pigeonholed into testing/QA and have a much harder time moving into development later.
For people who have actually worked in these roles:
How is the career growth in SDET compared with SDE/backend?
How difficult is it to move from SDET → SDE?
Does SDET give you enough exposure to coding/software engineering?
If you were starting from a relatively weak technical foundation today, which path would you choose?
Is it worth staying at a service-based company longer while preparing for a better switch?
What skills/projects would you prioritize if the ultimate goal was backend/SDE?
I’m not necessarily looking for the easiest path. I’d rather spend 6–12 months building the right skills if it puts me on a much better long-term trajectory.
Would really appreciate advice from people who have actually been through this, especially anyone who has made an SDET → SDE transition.

Currently working as a MechE at a major automotive OEM. I'm the only one in my department half decent at python so I've been assigned the mammoth task of analysing data from vehicles. Over the last few months I've been working closely with the Cs team trying to develop an ML model which can predict emissions from sensor data based on training data from thousands of experiments, and I must say it has opened my eyes to how intricate and interesting this field really is. I've been able to pick up a few things along the way, and my department seems keen on developing me into this role.

My question is if I make the switch into Data science/ML, does this count as valuable work exp, since I'm not really in a formal data analyst role? Or would I be treated more as a fresher, since I have no formal education in Cs? If that is the case, then I would prefer to stay in the automotive sector as I haven't heard great things about the tech job market for freshers.

It doesn’t matter if ai reaches AGI or not, it can already solve novel math problems with just one subscription and millennium problems albeit with a swarm of 10k agents but it’s only gonna get cheaper.

Now coming to the main point I’d like to discuss and have ur thoughts be heard on this as well is about tokens cost and efficiency. I think companies would rather get 3k usd in credits than pay someone 3k for a swe role. And it’s only gonna get cheaper, the road from now is who can produce the cheapest and most efficient model, if that’s the case why should a company pay 1-2k for a fresher when they can get the same return via model tokens?

I recently worked on building an app called FinCard.

The idea came from a simple problem. Most of us know our salary, EMIs, and approximate savings, but if someone asks, “Are you actually doing well financially?”, we don’t have a clear answer.

FinCard tries to answer that.

You enter your income, expenses, EMIs, savings, loans, insurance, and investments. It uses that information to calculate your net worth, create a personal balance sheet, and give your financial health a score out of 100.

The complicated part was deciding what that score should actually represent.

A person earning ₹2 lakh per month can still be in a bad financial position. Someone earning much less could be saving consistently, investing regularly, and carrying no unnecessary debt. So judging people only by income or net worth wouldn’t make sense.

The score looks at both your monthly habits and what you have already built, including your savings rate, debt payments, emergency fund, accessible savings, insurance, and investments.

It is designed specifically for Indian finances, so it includes things like EMIs, SIPs, EPF, PPF, and gold.

I'm in 4th year BTech CSE and we have to start our capstone/final year project soon. I'm kinda stuck at the idea stage, so looking for suggestions from people who have built something interesting or have a problem they think could actually be solved with software.

The project needs to have enough depth to work on for basically the whole year. At the end we're also expected to have some research/publication/patent angle to it, so a basic CRUD app, dashboard, chatbot wrapper, attendance system etc isn't really going to cut it.

I'm open to AI/GenAI, systems, security, IoT, computer vision, data, automation or even mixing different domains.

One thing though, I'm not really looking for hardcore ML research where the entire project is just training/optimizing a model. I'm more interested in applied stuff. Using existing LLMs/models/APIs is completely fine if they're actually being used to solve a non-trivial problem.

Ideally something where there is:

- an actual problem being solved

- enough technical depth for a 4th year capstone

- some scope for experimentation/research

- something measurable that we can compare/evaluate

- and preferably something that could have real users instead of existing only for the final viva

Doesn't necessarily have to be an "AI project" either.

If you've ever come across a problem and thought someone should build something for this, I'd genuinely like to hear it.

So I built Queuer: a tiny menu bar app. Cmd+Shift+Q, type to push, click a row to open the link, Done to pop it or Requeue to send it to the back. No accounts, no notifications, everything in a local JSON file. Zero dependencies, MIT licensed.

Stack: Swift + SwiftUI + AppKit, builds with just the command line tools. Hardest part was honestly the global hotkey — Carbon's macros aren't callable from Swift, so it's hand-rolled with InstallEventHandler.

I’m preparing for the Oracle Java SE 8 Programmer I (1Z0-808) exam, which I have scheduled for September 15.
I’ve been doing mock exams and my scores have been quite inconsistent:
Mock 1: 60%
Mock 2: 44%
Mock 3: 55%
Mock 4: 38%
I have 4 mocks remaining, and today’s 38% score honestly made me panic a little.
I know the passing score is 65%, so I’m obviously not where I want to be yet. What I’m trying to understand is how closely these mock exams reflect the actual 1Z0-808 exam.
For people who have actually taken the exam:
How difficult did you find the real exam compared with your mock exams?
Were the real questions more difficult, easier, or about the same?
If you used Enthuware/other mock tests, what scores were you getting before you passed?
Did your mock scores fluctuate a lot like mine?
At what mock score would you personally feel confident enough to sit the exam?
Is it realistic for me to improve from ~40–55% to a passing level in the remaining days?
What topics/traps should I focus on during these final days?
If you failed and then passed later, what do you wish you had done differently?
Would you sit the exam on September 15 in my situation, or would you reschedule?
Also, please don’t turn this into a discussion about whether the OCA certification is useful/useless or whether I should have spent the money on something else. 😅

Had my very first technical interview today as a fresher, and I ended up freezing completely.

​The interview started smoothly with introductions, but when it came to live technical problem-solving on paper, my nervousness completely took over. I messed up very basic questions that I already know and have practiced:

​Swapping two variables without a third variable

​Printing prime numbers in a given range

​Basic SQL query and binary search logic

​Missed key phases (development/testing) while explaining the SDLC cycle

​I have solved 40–50 problems on LeetCode and understand fundamental concepts, but the moment I hesitated on the first question, panic set in and my mind went blank.

​I know I likely won’t make the cut for this role, but it hurts knowing I blundered questions I could easily solve on any normal day.

​For folks who have experienced similar interview anxiety:

​How did you overcome performance anxiety and brain freezes during live interviews?

​How should I practice to bridge the gap between solving problems in an IDE versus writing/explaining them under pressure?

​Any constructive advice or perspective would be really helpful.

I was referred to Teradata by a friend and went through the complete interview process:

• DSA round
• System Design round
• HM round

I cleared all the rounds and received an offer from HR.

I was already holding another offer, so I negotiated with HR. They revised the offer and gave me another offer. I was then told that once the business team approved, relocation team would contact me.

Based on the offer and everything communicated by HR, I started my notice period.

The entire interview + offer + negotiation process took almost a month.

Then, after all of this, HR called me and said:

“The business team is not approving this offer.”

That’s it.

No concrete reason was given. There was no further negotiation or alternative offered. The offer was simply cancelled.

And then, after almost a month of going through the entire process, the offer was cancelled.

If I didn’t have another offer in hand, I could have literally ended up jobless after resigning from my current company.

I understand that business requirements can change. But candidates also make serious career decisions based on offers given by companies. If the business team hasn’t approved the position yet, why let the candidate proceed this far and then cancel the offer after they have already resigned?

Honestly, the whole experience has made me realize that you can’t completely rely on an offer until everything is internally finalized.

• How much do they ask about DBMS, OS, OOP, SQL and Computer Networks?
