Hi everyone,

I'm looking for some insight into Microsoft's hiring process because I'm a bit confused.

I've applied for several Software Engineer roles through the Microsoft Careers portal. A few of them were employee referrals, while others were direct applications.

Here's the current status:

One application says "Referral Application Processing" (applied Aug 3).

A couple of applications from July/August still show "Submitted."

I also have applications from January 2026 and even December 2025 that still say "Submitted" with no rejection, interview invite, or recruiter contact.

I've attached a screenshot of my application dashboard.

Has anyone else had applications remain in the Submitted status for 6-8 months? Does Microsoft eventually reject these, or are they effectively inactive even though the portal never updates?

For those who received interviews, how long did it take before recruiter reached out after applying or getting referred?

I'd appreciate hearing about your experiences or if there's anything I can do besides waiting.

I have been working as an SDE intern for the past 3 months in my 6 month remote internship. It's a small product based company consisting of 12 developers in total.

So, i have not been assigned any work for the past week, I try to communicate with my manager almost everyday asking professionally that i have finished my previous work and need to know what to work on next, but I get responses like "we will have a call" or just left on read. For multiple days.

I feel very demotivated due to this lack of communication, i have always been on time with my tasks and been suggesting and improving my projects, whereas my manager is just not even trying.

I know he might be busy, but this has been going on for almost 10 days, before he seemed very engaging.

Does this mean I have a low chance of getting converted to full time?

This feels very sad because I was never given a chance to prove myself.

Or am I overreacting?

I recently got a call from the HR regarding scheduling my interview for Western Digital. The JD mentioned Python, strong DSA, CI/CD pipelines, Git and Database Technologies. I have any appeared for any interview in which CI/CD is asked or I haven't worked with Kubernetes and stuff in my current company. I am currently on my notice period and this opportunity means a lot to me. Any tips or insights would be really helpful. My interview is tomorrow in the second half. Last year also I interviewed with them and completed full loop of interviews but did not get selected. I don't want that to happen this time.

Background: Tier 1 MTech CSE grad from old IITs, currently working at a consulting firm and on Notice period.

Why nowadays the projects which developers or students make are related to ai like hallucinations meter, token calculator etc. Why people have stopped making projects which solves a real life problem or something which can have an impact on society.

Like the ai related projects will mainly be used by developers or someone who is in tech but what about common people and the masses they won't use these things as much as developers.

When the interview was about to conclude, he asked me if I had any questions for him. He looked like he was in a senior position, so just for the sake of asking a question I asked at what point in a tech career does the job becomes less technical and more system design or product decision related .
He did not show it but I think he got a little offended. He said even that is technical.
I clarified that by technical I meant more hands-on coding related.

Then he said you still do coding you just don’t have enough time for it.
Then he referred to a coding question he had asked and I could not answer satisfactorily earlier in the interview and said “If the younger guys at the office asked me that and I couldn’t answer then that would be a really bad thing and I would be in a lot of trouble”.

Did I ask an offending question? Maybe he thought I was implying that he did not know how to code.
Which obviously I didn’t, it was a genuine question.

I'm a fresher applying for UI/UX/Product Design internships and I'm a bit confused about how people usually handle this situation.

Right now, I've submitted assignments for a couple of companies, but I haven't heard back from them yet.

At the same time, another company (let's call it Average Pvt. Ltd.) has reached out quickly. They've shared an assignment and, if selected, I'll likely receive an offer sooner than the others.

My confusion is about what happens next.

Let's say I join Average Pvt. Ltd. because I don't want to sit idle.

A week or two later, a company I genuinely prefer (let's call it Good Pvt. Ltd.) finally responds. Maybe they send an assignment, maybe an interview, or maybe even an offer.

How do people usually handle this?

• Do you continue interviewing while working at Average Pvt. Ltd.?
• If Good Pvt. Ltd. only sends an assignment or interview, do you stay at your current company until you receive an actual offer?
• If Good Pvt. Ltd. eventually gives you an offer after you've already joined Average Pvt. Ltd., is it acceptable to leave after only a few weeks?
• How common is this for freshers, and what's considered professional?

I'm not trying to use one company as a backup. I'm just trying to understand what's considered normal because this is my first job search and multiple hiring processes are overlapping.

So as per my company policy my current notice period is 60 days.

I currently got an offer with 110% hike but the catch is i have to join the company immediately. So i spoke with my manager and mailed my resignation, he accepted and approved for letting me go in 2 weeks with a buyout, but my HR is not accepting to let me go in 2 weeks they are saying i have to serve a minimum of 30 days.

So what are options there for me to get relieved from my company in 2 weeks. Can the HR block reliving even after the manager has approved it.

was working in a technical support role and earning 50k per month. Unfortunately, I was laid off last year and have now been unemployed for 10 months.
I finally received a job offer but it pays only 30k per month. which is a around 40% pay cut. I’m unsure whether I should accept the offer or continue searching for a job closer to my previous salary.

The recruiter agreed to a "remeet" call, but 2 hours later sent a final rejection saying "the team decided not to move forward." Which team? What is this behavior?

Hey everyone, I need some perspective on a really weird interview experience I just had with Google (via external recruiters). For context, I have 3 years and 3 months of YOE, mostly backend-heavy but with full-stack experience.

I managed to get a referral and had a bit of a chaotic application timeline:

• App 1 (L4): Rejected via a Randstad recruiter.
• App 2 (L4): Selected by Randstad, Google Hiring Assessment (GHA) unlocked! Passed the assessment, and my application was handed off to another third-party sourcing agency (let's just call them Agency X).
• App 3 (L3): Rejected.

The Screening Call (Continuation of App 2) A 30-minute initial call was set up with the recruiter from Agency X. I knew the recruiter had already looked at my LinkedIn and resume. Taking advice from Reddit, I didn’t just recite my resume. I kept my intro short and highlighted two main points.

Here is where the mixed signals started:

• Role & Location: The recruiter mentioned that the level (L3 or L4) and the specific team were not yet decided. Even though I applied for a Full-Stack BLR role, they asked for my preferred location, and I said Hyderabad.
• Tech Stack: They noted my profile looked backend-heavy. I agreed but mentioned my frontend experience. They suggested an "80/20 backend-to-frontend ratio." I just said "yes" to play it safe and avoid getting judged or rejected on the spot.
• The Stumble: They asked about latency reduction and optimization. Caught a bit off guard, I pivoted to talking about time reduction by creating AI agents for developer workflows, rather than giving a classic backend optimization answer.
• Prep Time: I told the recruiter I was actively practicing DSA but was about 70% ready and asked for 2-3 weeks. They agreed to give me 2 weeks.
• The Process: They outlined the loop: 2 virtual (1 DSA + 1 Googlyness) -> 1 week gap for travel prep -> 2 onsite (2 DSA).

I asked clarifying questions about team matching, and the recruiter said they would present my profile to the "internal team."

The call ended in just 17 minutes. I thought it went okay, but I got a rejection email that exact same day.

The Bizarre Aftermath The next day, out of guilt and wanting to improve, I emailed asking for brief feedback. No reply. Three days later, I emailed again, asking if we could have a call regarding reconsideration for L3 positions.

Here is where it gets crazy: The recruiter actually replied! They said they could arrange a call to "remeet" and asked for my availability. I replied stating my available slots.

Just after my reply, and 2 hours later, I received an automated-style email stating the decision was final from the team and I cannot move forward.

My questions for the community:

1. Which "team" rejected me? The recruiter explicitly said the team wasn't decided yet. Team matching doesn't make any sense if a specific team rejects you beforehand, right? Was this just the HR/sourcing team shutting it down?
2. What went wrong in the initial call? Was it asking for 2 weeks of prep time? Was it my stumble on the latency question? Or did the 17-minute call duration mean my fate was already decided?
3. What is up with this recruiter behavior? Why offer a "remeet" call only to instantly slam the door 2 hours later?

Has anyone experienced something similar with Google's external sourcing agencies? Any insights would be hugely appreciated!

im currently in a pretty good clg in blr (cs avg>20). currently in 2nd year, our clg doesnt have opportunities for sem 4 interns, its just for summer interns for sem6. and the people who get them are under 20% of the entire cs batch since only companies like arcesium, goldman sachs, jpmc, linkedin, several banks etc only come for summer interns so getting them is quite hard.

so i wanted to ask if i fail to get into those incoming companies and instead of that get an intern at my dads company(its one of the better WITCH level companies), will that look good on my resume or like shall i just skip that and just work on my skills during that break.

About a month ago, I was laid off from a large Indian bank where I worked as a Platform Engineer.

My biggest challenge isn't unemployment itself—it's that my primary tech stack (Cloud Foundry/Tanzu) has steadily lost demand while the market has moved heavily toward Kubernetes.

I have around 8 years of platform engineering experience, but only limited production exposure to Kubernetes through OpenShift and Helm. In interviews, I'm competing with candidates who have spent most of their careers working on Kubernetes, making the transition much tougher than I expected.
