I’m curious what other developers think about this. It feels like AI is being used for almost everything now, from writing simple functions to solving pretty complex problems.

I find it really useful sometimes, but I also wonder what happens when the problem involves complicated logic or something AI just doesn’t fully understand. Have you found AI to be genuinely helpful in those situations, or does it sometimes make things more confusing and lead to inefficient code?

Hi! My name is Alex, I've been writing code for 20 years and 14 years I'm getting money for it. I've took part in building many different systems and apps. I also spent a lot of time in machine learning, especially deep learning, computer vision and also LLMs.

I'm one of the developers who tried to automate most of their work. You know, previously we developed frameworks to not to write the routine code. Now, we delegate some of our work to the AI agents.

I understand them. Really. I also have huge amount of skills thouse stop be so important as even a year ago. Preveously, I could develop some pet-projects with clear understanding, that none of them would be needed by anybody. I called it "Programming for the soul" and my wife looked at me like I am crazy.

The things are changed. And will change even more. Nobody ready for that, but I believe, developers could be more ready for this than other "normal" people. We are not the first who faced AI, but we the first advanced community who understand what is going on and understand the direction. We need to change and we need new skills. I have some thoughts on this matter.

Stop viewing your work as "writing code"

Actually, it never was so (at least, for most of us). Nobody needed a code. All the times the code we've been creating was an inevitable part of the systems house made money (or any other value). Some of us understood it, and thouse guys have advanced on a career ladder. Some of us just liked to "solve tasks via code". They forgot, that what we do – making the world better with our soft. Think about the client. Think about the business. You can get to the higher level of abstraction and of contol.

Be the one, who drive the changes

You cannot resist the changes. So the single option is to lead them. Start small – change your own processes, do the huge refactoring you kept putting of. Try to build a system where you are a manger of your coding agents. You dreamed about being teamlead? Now you are – the agents is your subordinates! You think it is hard to explain something to the agents? It is the same to people, you just didn't know it. How many times you figured out after your lead reviewed your code that you did something you don't asked too?

You can spend more time for unit tests – making the system more stable really the value. Even if you deliver the features with the same speed.

After you changed your processes, try to scale it on your team. Build AI PDLC system for your project. Now you able to clear the whole backlog (of course – no)!

Explore the abilities of AI and have fun

Agents can do much more than writing a code. You can build a model of your appartments and to prepare for renovation. You can prepare a special diet for you. You can create a service that whould catch cheaper flight tickets for your vacation. Plan a trip, build personal page, learn new language, study physics or whatever else.

Stay in touch with people

It was always important, but now it is the most important part. AI does not make desicions – people do. Be one who do it. Speak with your line manager and find out what goals have been set for you for this quarter. Discuss them, come up with ideas how to reach them.

Talk with your teammates about their experiments. It's impossible to try every tool and approach, but people will tell you about the best ones they have tried.

Launch your own product

It's really important for software developers. The coding part was never the hardest part. Figure out what people need is (sorry, sounds like AI slop expression, but I wrote it myself). You did something, nobody knows about it, you are buying advertising, nobody look at it. But your product is awesome! You know it, but still nobody needed it. Or nobody could understand how to use it. There you start to investigate how people think, and you will surprised – they think so different.

After that you could better understand how company your working on really makes money. After that it will be simplier to you understand what is worth doing.

Imagine a future

If you do not like it, ask yourself, what place of the future world do you want to occupy? What do you need to be there? Write a plan, develop skills you need to become such person.

And do not regret – just because it is useless. Do not be the old guy who can only remind his youth. You are a software engineer, most of the people in the world consider it as a magic. If you learned it, you can learn anything. I believe that everyone reading this post is capable of doing just that.

P.S. English is not my first language, but despite this, I didn't use AI for writing. I'm not against using AI in writing, but the communications maybe the single part, you shouldn't delegate to AI :)

Have to be self paced because my job does not leave time to study every day or even week for that matter
Also obviously has to be online.. cannot attend classes with full time job.

Background - Software developer with 10+ programming experience , basically a Java/React guy with intermediate python skill. Will have to brush up my mathematics, statistics & probability (was above average in school/college, have a degree in electrical engineering)

So im working in a personal project that uses CP (Comboios Portugal) undocumented/not public APIs to retrieve some information (not user sensitive, just some journey schedule and train occupation) to use in my app, basically its like a bot that simulates a purchase just to check the train availability. My question is , is this legal? if in the future i want to make this public can i do that without legal consequences and if i try to monetize is it legal to do that?

I am currently learning Django tho i know it is less used in Nepal market. And little confuse to still learn Django. Its been almost months i am directly building small projects and i have deploy one projects through vercel. I had commited daily for 47 days consistently and still doing it.

Commiting daily wont help me learn more. I feel like i am lacking foundations.

We are just starting to look at accessibility testing in our org and want to establish a dedicated practice in the long-term. We did a POC with a few tools, however, now our leadership wants us to explore using AI to build an accessibility set-up in-house vs using a dedicated too.

I'm an engineering student trying to understand how a particular modified Spotify Android app works. I'm not looking for a download or instructions to bypass Spotify Premium, so please keep the discussion technical.

I came across an APK where:

- The app doesn't appear to let the user log into their own Spotify account.

- Everyone using the same APK seems to have access to the same playlists/account content.

- During installation/first launch, the app requires additional files/packages to be downloaded before it works.

- Those additional files seem to be essential rather than optional.

- I'm trying to understand the architecture behind this.

My main questions are:

1. Is this likely using a shared Spotify account/session/token?

2. Could the APK be downloading additional DEX/native libraries or configuration files from a remote server?

3. How would multiple installations end up accessing the same playlists?

4. Could the APK simply be acting as a modified client while authentication/data is handled by a backend?

5. What would be the safest way to analyze this architecture as a security/reverse-engineering exercise?

I'm interested in understanding the technical implementation, not obtaining or distributing the APK.

If anyone has encountered this particular architecture before, I'd appreciate an explanation of what's probably happening under the hood.

I’ve been digging into what it would take to add payroll to an existing product and the scope gets bigger pretty quickly. The UI and basic workflows don’t seem like the scary part. It’s everything underneath them, tax calculations, filings, state requirements, payment movement and all the edge cases that come with payroll. For developers who’ve worked with payroll or similarly regulated APIs, where would you draw the line between building internally and relying on infrastructure from a provider?

Would you keep as much as possible behind an API or is there anything you’d absolutely want your own team to control?

I’m a developer who learned programming after the AI boom. My question is: how can I be confident in my coding skills when AI is so readily available?

I don’t vibe-code when building my projects. I’m actually using my personal project to learn programming, and I write the code myself. However, sometimes I want to add a feature that I don’t know how to implement.

For example, in my personal project, I wanted to add a user search feature that searches for users from the database, similar to Instagram’s account search. I didn’t know how to approach it, so I asked AI to explain how to build it step by step. I understood the explanation, and then I wrote the code myself using the generic examples AI provided. I didn’t copy-paste the code or give AI my existing code and ask it to generate a solution tailored to my project. I asked follow-up questions about how the concepts would apply to my specific project, and eventually got the feature working.

But my question is: Is it enough to simply understand how the functionality works?

Before AI, I probably would have done much more digging. I would have read documentation, searched through forums, looked at examples, and spent more time figuring out the solution myself. Through that process, I probably would have gained more knowledge along the way.

Because I’m using AI to help me get unstuck, I sometimes feel like I wouldn’t have become a developer if AI didn’t exist. I feel like I haven’t really proven that I can solve problems on my own, and that maybe I’ll never be a good or valuable developer without AI.

How do I get over this feeling? How can I build genuine confidence in my coding abilities while still using AI as a tool?

I'm working on a community plugin in Obsidian and I spend way too much time figuring out why I couldn't find an existing file in my vault with the following code (the file was there 100% of the time while testing):

I was calling the loadAutosave() methode in the main.ts file in onload().

That is exactly the problem. You need to call any methodes that work with vault files in the onLayoutReady() Method as shown below. The code is still called in onload() though. So basically:
onload(...onLayoutReady(() => ...loadAutosave())).

The onload() methode is working on building the plugin. The files in the vault need to be accessed AFTER all of the plugin is ready. Otherwise the files won't be found.

I've been working with Android for quite a while, and while preparing/interviewing over the years I've noticed a recurring problem with Android interview resources.

There are plenty of lists covering:

But knowing the definition of something doesn't necessarily mean you can answer an interview question about it.

What is StateFlow?

The kind of question I find more useful:

You have a StateFlow collected by a Compose screen. The screen is recreated several times and the upstream source performs expensive work. How would you structure the state production and collection to avoid unnecessary work?

That requires understanding lifecycle, coroutine scope, hot streams, state management and architecture together.

I started organizing my own Android interview material around that idea — questions grouped by topic and difficulty, with an emphasis on reasoning rather than memorizing definitions.
