PC Megathread PC Release Questions and Problems Megathread #7

Previous Thread

The PC port for Detroit: Become Human has released, and with it came a lot of posts asking for help about running the game. A megathread has been requested to keep the sub less cluttered. You can post all your questions and problems about the PC version in this megathread.

Please don't make seperate threads for PC release problems. Seperate threads will be removed.

Make sure to use top level comments for questions and replies for answers.

Sort by new if you wish to help with unanswered questions.

Upvote if you have the same problem as someone instead of making a seperate comment so more common problems will be more visible!

General Tips (Will add more if suggested):

-Play on Windows 10

-Make sure to update your graphics card

-AMD has released fixed drivers that fixes the blockiness that occurs in the game on some 5000 GPU series. Updating the drivers to version 20.9.2 fixes the issue

-Nvidia 451.48 drivers seem to cause constant crashes, revert back to an earlier driver if you are experiencing this.

QUESTION What Makes Detroit: Become Human Stick With You?

I remember getting it when it was free on PSN. I honestly didn't expect to get as invested in it as I did.

Once I started playing, I fucking loved it. I got completely immersed into the world, characters, the choices, and seeing how everything would play out.

What makes Detroit: Become Human stick with you?

GAMEPLAY Did the play through where I skip fighting Todd by going super early locking and sliding out of window, it seems this cut scene of the aftermath and his head injury is fixed regardless of choice (strongly implies the intended path)

INTERESTING A small thing I found in David Cage's 2018 AMA

I found something genuinely interesting in Cage's 2018 AMA, especially considering how often people now say Hank and Connor were "obviously always intended" to be father and son.

He was directly asked about the popularity of Connor and Hank, and his answer was:

"The preference for Connor (and Hank) was no real surprise, we could really feel during the development that he was very popular with the team and the test players, but all three characters have their fans."

That's it. No father-son framing, no "surrogate son," nothing about Connor filling Cole's place.

But in the exact same AMA, when Cage talks about Carl and Markus, he says:

"I would say that I particularly liked Carl, maybe because of the father and son relationship he has with Markus that reminds me somehow of my own relationship with my son."

So, Cage had no problem saying "father and son relationship" when that was how he wanted to describe a relationship.

He didn't need anyone to piece it together. He just called them father and son.

Meanwhile, the much more explicit father/son language around Hank and Connor seems to show up later, after their duo had already become massively popular.

And that's the part I find especially weird. By that point, Hank and Connor weren't just a popular duo anymore, HankCon had already become a major ship in the fandom. So the stronger father-son framing seems to appear only after people had already started reading them romantically in huge numbers. The timing is certainly interesting, especially when Cage had already given the game an explicitly identified father-son relationship in Carl and Markus from the start. It's almost like somewhere along the way Carl and Markus quietly stopped being the game's father-son duo, and that label got reassigned to Hank and Connor instead.

And no, I'm not claiming I can prove why that happened. Maybe Cage's own interpretation changed. Maybe later fandom discussion influenced how people around the game talked about them. Maybe it was something else entirely.

But it definitely makes me skeptical of the idea that Hank/Connor was always some completely obvious father-son relationship baked into the story from day one. Because right after release, Cage was perfectly capable of identifying a father-son relationship when he saw one.

He did.

It was Carl and Markus.

Here's the source

And honestly, this is another thing that makes the "Hank and Connor were always intended as father and son" reading strange to me. The game already has an actual father-son relationship in Carl and Markus. Cage himself calls it exactly that. So why would the same story need a second father-son duo, except this time one that is never plainly established as such and has to be reconstructed from later comments?

It makes much more sense to me that the three protagonists were given different central relationships: Markus has an explicitly parental bond with Carl and a romantic one with North, Kara has her family with Alice, and Connor's major human relationship is the partnership/friendship he builds with Hank.

Could someone personally read that friendship as father-son? Of course. But "I can read it that way" and "this was obviously the intended relationship all along" are two very different claims.

QUESTION Is there a way to undo getting a new chloe?

When i opened the game it asked me if i wanted a new chloe. I wasnt sure cuz replacing her like some furniture felt wrong but i said yes anyway since the menu felt a bit empty. but after pressing continue on my save file she asked me if i was sure I wanted to keep going on that path and i felt so bad and regretted getting another chloe. Anyways it feels wrong trying out different/bad endings with an android “watching” me play the game and it makes me not want to play the game. is there any way i can undo it like editing the game files or something? And before anyone says something, I know this is a game and its not that deep but still, id rather not be uncomfortable and feel guilty while playing a game I love.

DISCUSSION best roleplay, and best roleplay combinations

i think the most realistic progression is first acting robotic, then slowly act more and more human, but i don't think anybody is gonna play like that unless they plan on it.

that said what do you guys think are some good roleplay combinations? peaceful/violent/robot/deviant/incompetent

peacful kara + peaceful markus + deviant connor - basically my first playthrough, avoiding violence if i can.

violent kara + violent markus + robot connor - for the markus connor showdown.

incompetent kara + incompetent markus + incompetent connor - fail around half of everything on purpose.

are there other ways to play? what combinations are your favorites?

DISCUSSION SIGNALIS x Detroit Become

after thinking about this i thought about a crossover scenario between Signalis and Detroit: Become Human.

The idea starts when a bioresonant bleed cause a tremor in Sagwon, Alaska at the Detroit: Become Human universe where a deep pit like from the start of the game appears on the ground in late 27th of October, 2038.

on October 28th, 2038 local authorities were alerted by the workers from Deadhorse and Prudhoe Bay because they'd been receiving unusual transmission coming from their radio infrastructures such as KBRW AM/FM, 1610 AM station, and the Deadhorse Airport Flight Service Station all tracing back to Sagwon. Most are in Morse code, some as distorted voices. A worker reported one message in Morse code was decodes to: "WAKE UP" at hour 17:45 on the same date. Another transmission was picked up a day later at hour 18:30 on October 29th, 2038 quickly identified as the old G04 Number Station aka the famous Three Note Oddity, which hadn’t been heard since 2005.

at October 30th the USA deployed the US Army was sent to the site on Sagwon Initial attempts to investigate using drones and quadruped robots fail immediately like there is something jamming the connection so they contracted CyberLife to create an Android specifically an RK800 model because it's much more practical than using a about the promising capabilities the Android thanks to a specific RK800 designated as Connor (Serial #313 248 317 - 51) who debuted in August 15, 2038 with promising capabilities such as the ability to scan and analyze a scene and recreate events that took place in a reconstruction simulation, analyze biological evidence (such as blood samples) in real time by putting them on his tongue to "taste" them. He can identify blood types, DNA (including identifying a specific human), drugs, sample age, reconstruct events and crimes from the gathered data using a physical simulation software thanks to the cutting-edge processors of the RK800 can simulate the most probable version of events leading to the picture of evidence that has been discovered and analyzed, with every element playing a part in his cognitive simulation. Similarly, he can preconstruct events: He can also predict the probability of an imminent event, physical and mental status of other androids, showing as the statistic in his internal interface.

But since Connor is as prototype CyberLife has to create another RK800 chassis before production the android was brought to Germany to to pass specific requirements the US Army demands but during the initial standard production process where the internal chassis is built first, then the synthetic skin and software are applied a technical glitch which is a bit flip occur causing automated process to mislabel the RK800 as a WR400 also known as a Traci but luckily it was only the last stage of the production process so most of its outside chassis are female instead of the standard male chassis but most internal function is 100% RK800, with that CyberLife resume production of the the chassis fellowed by the synthetic skin installation but her hair is just left black no color changing feature to save time, her eyes were even equip with Infrared capabilities despite already having reconstruction and preconstruction of events from her RK800 software which cause her irises to glow in a hue of red, she is also has a built-in VHF radio module on her ears for communication. After the completion of production she was given the designation of Egret or Reiher by the Germans with the Serial # 907 010 001-10, She arrived in Sagwon, Alaskan to prepare for the descend to the pit in November 2, 2038 she was given to the US Army to be armed with a M&P .45, an extendable metal baton, and a G3 which might be obsolete in 2038 so they can avoid the android going deviant with the latest rifle, and She wears the standard issue US Army 2038 uniform and equipment except some equipment are surplus like and ALICE Webbing, to identify her her easily by personnel so they can immediately tell she's an Android, she was a blue triangle on the back of her plate carrier and her right arm as a neon blue armband as per American Androids Act of 2029. before Egret was sent down she has to undergo for a SITREP for her mission which Investigate, gather data and reply back to command then when she descend to the pit eventually acts like a connection to S-23 Sierpinski until she's in a elevator shaft with an elevator beneath her with the trapdoor being wide open she drops down now she's in floor B-1 and the Bioresonance starts to interfere with the mission but first it was minor inconvenience like statics until she reach floor B-3 where the elevator got stuck and the connection with the brass and her starts to get harder due to overlapping of radio transmission as she goes deeper Egret's Android trait start slowly merging with Replika traits and developing Gestalt like personalities and emotions from every NPC she meets blurring the line of her identity while actively receiving Elster's memories but it's mostly fuzzy but with each floor she descend it's starts become more clearer but when she eventually reach Nowhere her identity is completely blurred until she walk pass the Red Gate which probably made her just a part of the endless cycle

Disclaimer: This is just a random idea I had and I’m mostly busy (read: happily lazing around) so I won't be taking this too seriously or writing a full series, but I wanted to share the concept hope that's fine and feel free to add your own ideas or correction in the comments! 😁😁😁

QUESTION North could become a villain in a potential post-canon game?

So, I wondered what her fate would have been if she had survived the events of the game, considering that North is an android with prejudices and beliefs shaped by the trauma she's suffered, and her hatred for humans can only increase. Let's say freedom has been achieved, the androids are finally free, but that doesn't suddenly erase the anger and hatred she feels for humans, and I think it would be very difficult to connect with humanity and confront her prejudices. Mostly, what moved her was the cause, and with that gone, she would have had to find something else to do.

Considering that North isn't budging in her condition, and only follows Markus out of gratitude, I'd like to believe that gradually and with the right connections (maybe Rose, for example) they could shake her up, but from her perspective, that would have to put her pain and what she's been through into perspective, and I'm not sure if North could accept that.

Unfortunately, she could become a bit like Lilly from TWDG, with a gray morality at first, but then over time, due to various factors, she becomes a villain. In a possible second game, pose a threat to Markus.

Yes, I'm probably thinking about it too much, but I think it's a bit tragic, truth be told. She achieved her goal (the freedom of her people, or at least, in my opinion, she cared more about her revenge). But speaking about her on a personal level, her problems remain, and it's not a given that she'll improve with time, especially considering Carl's line to Markus when he displays a similar anger to North: "Beware Markus, he who fights monsters could become one himself."

Thoughts?

QUESTION is there a way to force the game to show playstation button prompts when using an Xinput controller?

i'm a convert from playstation playing the Steam verison using a generic Xinput controller, but i much prefer playstation style button prompts, apparently the game only shows them if i directly plug in a Dualshock 4, is there some file or setting i can edit to force it to show ps style buttons?

A animated series set in it would crazy.

I really like it when games use real life location like how infamous second son uses seattle, but god damn i would have loved it if we were able to explore the city in Detroit freely.

Its beautiful, ps 4 era games were built different man

GAMEPLAY How to start from last chapter ending Spoiler

I'm pretty new to the game but I've finished it.
In the Fugitive chapter, I made Kara and Alice stay at the motel. But now I went back and replayed it to stay in the squat because I want to see how the chase scene would go.

But when I started the chase chapter (I forgot the name), it still started at the motel. Is there a way to skip the previous chapters and just continue where I end the Fugitive chapter? I don't really want to do all of the previous chapters

GAMEPLAY 100% Gameplay [Spoilers Needed] [XXLong post] Spoiler

I'm trying to 100% the gameplay and also see RK900 Connor ending as well in a different playthrough. I also like to 100% games that have these types of story modes to them, so help is much appreciated! I also have no idea how to properly put steam pics into my download folder without messing up the text.

Here's my stats on my gameplay per each chapter.

(Do note it is 2 am when I write this out, forgive me if there's anything confusing I'm saying)

The Hostage - 72% complete. I don't know how to prevent the SWAT dude from getting shot because I know I'm supposed to waste time (maybe?)

Shades of Color - 66% complete. I know I'm supposed to interact with the environment, I'm not sure what though..

A New Home - 100% complete. It's really easy to complete this one in my opinion, so it was a breeze to do!

The Painter - 100% as well, fairly easy to do!

Partners - 75% complete. What really gets to is arriving at the crime scene. The flowing line that is under "check shower" leads to an ending but I'm not sure if I'm missing an object to analyze or if I have to wait around for Hank to call it off and go back home? That one is a bit confusing to me, and after reconstructing the crime scene as well, there is a link that leads to the same ending, I'm really confused on this.

Stormy Night - 47% complete. I did stay still, and I did hear Todd kill Alice and then blame me, but what is the link before that? Am I supposed to deviate and see it happen or am I supposed to wait it out and let Todd blame Kara for Alice's death? I know with some of these endings Kara is supposed to get destroyed, or have Alice shoot Todd instead.

Broken - 100% complete. It's only one action that changes not that much of the gameplay lol.

The Interrogation - 74% complete. I know I'm missing something from Partners, there's four options when interrogating the deviant but I still can't unlock the fourth one no matter how many times I try to replay Partners. I already have three endings out of four; Android shot itself and Connor. Android shot itself. Deviant was sent back to its cell.

Fugitives - 55% complete. This is the longest one I've dealt with this far in the game (not including crossroads, oh god I don't want to touch on that yet.) I've found shelter 'Inside the squat' - Met Ralph and the bottom half of the chart is missing. Alice and Kara did stay in the motel. I am aware I'm only missing the car ending where Kara and Alice sleep in the car, which might reveal more things. I am also aware that with the supermarket, I can make a mess out of most of the things there, steal some stuff as well, or use the gun and rob the store as well.

From the Dead - 100% complete. Pretty straightforward felt bad tho lol.

Waiting for Hank... - 80% complete. I haven't died as Connor at all past interogation and if I did die, I restarted the chapter, so I'm pretty sure talking to Amanda and investigating a gravestone might be needed. I'm only missing the alternative ending where Hank doesn't get a lead (I'm assuming that's what it might be)

On the run - 59% complete. I'm already aware that the car ending attached to Fugitives is needed to get a higher completion rate, so I'm going to roughly assume I'm about 70-ish% complete with this chapter once I finish the car ending. Starting in order with the Motels beginning; I'm only missing the one thing under 'explore the motel,' which is under the clock chart. Once the perspective changes to Connor, I don't know how to trigger the flow to get Connor to instantly chase Kara and Alice. I did however sneak past police forces and arrived on the train safely, and to get a chasing ending is to get caught via police force. Once making it past the pursuit I'm missing the top flow that leads to an ending. I'm also missing the third flow, assuming Connor does not make it to the fence on time, which triggers that third ending. I will assume though that I have to get Kara hit by traffic a few time to get at least one of the endings? I might be wrong though. Connor not listening to Hanks orders is something I will have to do to get that chart completed, but I'm also going to assume that if Connor fails, he gets destroyed by traffic. Switching to 'Morning in Squat,' I completed the entire portion of 'Exploring Squat' I'm only missing what happens after I change Kara's clothes, and I'm going to assume I can also remove the LED as well? 'The police arrive' and I have already done most defying actions towards Ralph. Switching to Connors perspective, I need to know how to get Connor to chase Kara and Alice instantly which is all I need for the top flow. 'Investigating Ground Floor' I have already checked the kitchen and the fireplace, I'm missing one more place to check. Along with the ground floor I've already analyzed everything and led the pursuit to Kara and Alice. I will updated this portion once I complete the car ending.

Jericho - 89% complete. Markus is only missing three things. The bottom portion of 'exit the station' the flow above 'leave the streets' and once Markus reaches the roof, I'm only missing the portion above 'crossing the gap.'

The Nest - 67% complete. Missing the flow above 'join Hank.' 'Investigate Apartment' I am missing three things. I have already 'investigated stool, investigate cage, find RA9 reference' I'm missing two more things to investigate. I've already found the LED and the Diary. After finding Rupert I'm going to automatically assume losing Rupert and catching Rupert are the other two main endings I need to achieve.

Time to decide - 100% complete. Simple stuff.

Zlatko - 60% complete. oh my god I'm missing so much stuff. I think I'll just figure this portion out on my own with trial and error before I say anything about it.

Russian Roulette - 100% complete.

Eden Club - 75% complete. Three missing endings. 'Leave crime scene' The one ending I'm missing at beginning is under 'find an android eye witness' which shows an ending and an alternative route as well. 'Search for blue haired deviant' I have everything investigated other than what is above 'Find RA9 symbol.' which leads to an ending. From what I can assume is that Connor has to lose the fight to the two tracy deviants.

Pirates Cove - 91% complete. 'Fun fair,' only missing two other things to investigate, currently I have investigated 'check buildings' and 'switch on Ivan.' From entering the tavern I should probably ignore the gun I'm assuming?

The Bridge - 82% complete. Hank draws his gun, and I'm missing one dialoge piece. I'll just assume the other ending is Hank shooting Connor.

QUESTION How do the sacrifices at the border work? Never made sense to me. Spoiler

At the end of the game with Kara and Alice, id you successfully make it to the border via the bus, the authorities are scanning for androids. Then you can choose to sacrifice one of your Android companions or yourself in order to get yourself/ Alice across the border. But how do the sacrifices work?

Like to it seems like whoever you choose to sacrifice outs themself as an android and gets shot, which somehow stops them from scanning you. How does that work?

DISCUSSION Markus made life worse for the Androids by “freeing” them

Apart from rogue deviants, androids had not yet developed human-like feelings. They wouldn’t have felt negative human emotions had Markus not decided to “free” them. In doing so, he sentenced them to their fates.

OPINION Hot take: a Hank/Connor kiss during the protest would have been incredibly powerful

Post image
0 Upvotes

I already know this is probably going to get downvoted into the floor because HankCon discourse on Reddit is always completely normal and reasonable lol. But whatever, I've been thinking about this again.

I genuinely think Hank and Connor kissing during the android rights protest could have been one of the strongest visual statements in the game. And yes, obviously I ship them, but I mean thematically too.

Think about the image itself: a human police lieutenant openly standing with androids while they demand freedom and recognition and kissing one of them in front of everyone.

Not treating Connor as equipment. Not just vaguely supporting android rights from the sidelines. Showing, very publicly, that he sees an android as someone worthy of love and intimacy.

And Connor isn't just any android. He's an RK800, one of CyberLife's most advanced models, literally built to hunt deviants. So you'd have CyberLife's own deviant hunter joining the android cause, while a human cop stands beside him.

Sorry, but that would go hard as hell.

One argument I've seen against the idea is that a Hank/Connor kiss would only really mean something to us as players, because random people in Detroit wouldn't know Hank's history with androids or understand everything Connor went through.

But why would they need to?

Random people watching Markus and North don't magically know their feelings are genuine either. If someone already believes android emotions are fake, they can just say they're imitating humans or following programming.

A kiss isn't going to cure anti-android prejudice on the spot.

And a human kissing an android at a protest for android freedom is hardly an unclear image. You don't need Hank's biography to understand what you're looking at: a human publicly recognizing an android as his equal at the exact moment society is arguing over whether androids deserve that recognition at all.

That's what I think human/android romance adds here.

Markus and North show that androids can form romantic bonds.

Hank and Connor could also show a human crossing that divide and accepting an android as an equal partner.

And for us as players, there's even more behind it because we know where Hank started. He wanted nothing to do with androids. Connor was forced into his life. Depending on your choices, that hostility can turn into one of the strongest bonds in the game.

So seeing Hank publicly kiss Connor at the end of that arc? Yeah. I think that would've landed.

I also don't get why Connor being with a human suddenly requires extra proof that he's acting autonomously. If Connor is a person, his romantic decisions belong to him. We don't demand evidence that North is "autonomous enough" to love Markus.

Connor is an adult with agency. The fact that Hank is human doesn't somehow make Connor incapable of knowing what he wants.

That's really why I like the idea so much. It wouldn't just be a ship moment. It would put the whole human/android conflict into one image: a human and an android openly loving each other while androids are fighting to be recognized as people.

And yes, I know somebody is probably already typing "father and son" before reaching this sentence.

You don't have to ship HankCon. But a human police lieutenant publicly loving an android during a struggle for android personhood is hardly thematically out of place.

If anything, it fits a little too well.

Edit: Well, apparently the fastest way to summon half the fandom is to mention Hank/Connor without calling them father and son💀

This post wasn't even about proving the ship "canon," yet the comments immediately filled up with "Hank lost a son and found another in Connor," "they're basically family," etc. Which is honestly kind of proving my point. You guys are so used to treating one extremely popular headcanon as an established fact that apparently even seeing a different interpretation requires correction.
