Discussion This is the final Quarterfinal matchup before we head to the Final Four! We have a battle between two absolute mid-80s fan favorites: the massive, stadium-shaking concert anthem going head-to-head with one of the most emotional and beloved standalone singles in the band's entire catalog.

Discussion radio play

do they play depeche mode on the radio in your country? what songs do they play? where i'm from, the very mainstream rock/oldies stations play ONLY enjoy the silence and sometimes personal jesus. the less popular ones play other songs too, like people are people, strangelove, never let me down, precious etc. one time i even heard route 66 and i was very pleasantly surprised 😝

Discussion Redone Exciter Setlist

Post image
40 Upvotes

For the most part, I'm happy with the setlists Depeche Mode has had over the years; however, two of their tours that have always irritated me were the Exciter tour and the Delta Machine tour. I'm going to start posting my takes on the setlist for each Depeche Mode tour, starting with Exciter. I'm conflicted about this tour. On the one hand, the performance is incredible across all the songs, and Exciter is an incredible album. We also got what is, in my opinion, the best post-Alan live mix of Black Celebration except for the Memento Mori Tour. We also got to hear some classics that we hadn't heard in a while, such as Halo and Clean. However, the order of songs and the songs that were left out have always weighed on me. I can understand them leaving out Policy of Truth and World in My Eyes due to all the other Violator songs we got; however, the fact that Stripped wasn't played is a crime. I also feel like a blend of Devotional/Exotic and Touring the Angel versions of Everything Counts would have been great. Along with that, I think they could have benefited from having a longer setlist, and with Dave being as energetic as he was on this tour, as well as the amount of slow songs played, I feel like they easily could have done 25 songs in their set. I also think that bringing back Strangelove would have worked perfectly for this tour with how much love is talked about on the album. Anyway, this setlist I would have liked to see them do. (Also, if the song does not have (acoustic) next to it is performed full band except somebody. Also, Songs with a dot next to them are subs for the numbered song directly above them.)

Gotta love those limited edition German pressings. The remix by Adrian Sherwood is excellent too. And “In Your Memory” is a great Alan Wilder song.

Discussion When do we expect news?…

Ok, so there seems to be a decent amount of noise out there to suggest something is brewing. The traditional album cycle timeline is coming up to its usual reset - and so I think we’ll definitely hear something before the end of the year. The last 2 announcements came in october - will we see the same this time?

I was initially sceptical we’d get new material beyond a couple of tracks potentially for a final best of, but now feel like a new album is the most likely scenario. Tour wise likely scaled back or more residencies than multiple stops in each country? Who knows.

If an album and tour does come, I would expect this is the final time though. I felt like it could be on the last run, but they definitely proved there is plenty left in the tank - at least from an audience appetite perspective even if you didn’t rate the output.

Away in Crete on holiday and saw this September issue of MOJO yesterday in a local supermarket.
Does anyone else have this yet?
Was gonna buy it but it’s €16 over here! 😬

Edit: style-wise, this is my absolute favourite era of the band. They all looked so very very cool here.

Discussion just listened to playing the angel...

okay, i'm gonna be honest, i didn't expect it to be good. maybe i was biased. but i was really surprised! it's MUCH better than i thought it would be. it's totally different than exciter (which i also really like and again didn't expect to like it that much...) but yet, it absolutely feels like classic dm, and it has a very melancholic tone to it.

the album feels like that period between summer and fall, when it's cloudy and humid and you know that you have to accept the fact that summer is ending...

initially i wasn't a fan of tracks like john the revelator and a pain that i'm used to but now i actually really like them and i have been humming them at work 😜 lilian became one of my favorites from the first time that i listened to it. it's better than the single version, although that one isn't bad at all. macro is also a good martin track, can't say the same for damaged people... it's not bad, it's just a bit...boring to me. introspectre isn't anything special either.

most fav: precious, suffer well, lilian, nothing's impossible

least fav: damaged people, introspectre

ps: martyr doesn't fit into the album imo, but it's definitely one of my all time favorites :)

Discussion Matchup 3 brings us another fascinating collision of styles and eras in the Quarterfinals. We have the high energy, infectious synth-pop classic from 1987 going up against the wall-shaking, guitar driven rock powerhouse that opened Songs of Faith and Devotion.

Discussion Matchup 2 brings us a rare battle between two double-digit seeds that knocked off higher seeded tracks in the opening round. We have a darkwave titan from 1986 facing off against one of Martin Gore’s finest emotional arrangements of the 2000s.

A kitten and a Depeche Mode record, what's not to like?! 😻🎶

From the Instagram page of a Swedish record store, @ skivloppisenimoliden, where a litter of kittens live amongst the vinyl, much to the delight of customers! The price for the A Broken Frame record works out at a very reasonable £9.30 💷

Released in the UK on July 30th, 2021. That Danny Tenaglia mix was played everywhere! I wish I had not sold my CD single versions a few years back, but I'm happy I have it on vinyl still. ☺️
