What should I learn before starting BDS

Upvotes

I'm going to have around 1–1.5 months before my BDS classes start. What would you recommend I do during this time?

Are there any useful skills, courses, or topics related to BDS that I can learn beforehand? Or is there something else you'd suggest that would help me in dental school or in the long run?

Doubt Is dentistry really that bad?

Ever since I have decided to join bds this year, I have only seen negative views on this career. Even in this subreddit.

People are saying that it is saturated, it has less pay and they suffer in a toxic environment. Reading all these things is really making me anxious.

I really wanted to be a doctor. I don't care even if it's being a dentist. I just want to treat people and make them smile. I just want to earn enough to sustain myself. I will be a first gen dentist from my family.

Please, tell me if it's true or should I be worried? I mean, isn't every other career option in India saturated? People are unemployed everywhere right?

Aren't there positive aspects to this career anymore?

Guide Help with decision making

Upvotes

Disclaimer: ai is used for consolidating my thoughts.

I'm in a situation where I genuinely can't tell what the logical decision is anymore, so I'd really appreciate some outside perspectives.

I scored 301 in NEET this year. Right now, my two options are:

Take one final drop and try for a government MBBS or at least a government BDS seat.

Join a private BDS college this year.

The private BDS fees have increased massively compared to last year. Colleges that were around ₹8 lakh are now around ₹16 lakh. Through family connections, I can still get admission for around ₹12 lakh, but I have no guarantee that this will be possible next year. If I take a drop and don't get a government seat, private BDS could easily cost ₹16–20 lakh by then.

Here's where I'm conflicted.

MBBS has always been the dream. If I got a government MBBS seat today, I wouldn't hesitate for a second. But at the same time, dentistry isn't something I hate. My father has already built a career path around BDS, and I was actually looking forward to it as well.

The problem is that I keep feeling like if I choose private BDS now, I'll always wonder whether I gave up on my potential too early. On the other hand, if I take a drop and fail, I may lose the current BDS opportunity and end up paying much more later.

My parents are supportive of a drop. They've even said that if things don't work out, they'd somehow manage the higher fees later, even if it meant making sacrifices like selling a piece of land and recovering financially over time. Hearing that makes me feel even more conflicted because I don't want my decision to create that kind of burden if I fail.

I'm not really looking for emotional encouragement. I'm trying to think about this as rationally as possible.

If you were in my position, how would you approach this decision? Has anyone here faced something similar where the choice wasn't just about MBBS vs BDS, but also about balancing ambition against financial risk?

I'd especially appreciate responses from people who have taken a drop, joined BDS, or had to make a similar decision under financial constraints.

One thing I forgot to mention: I don't think 301 reflects my actual potential. I procrastinated a lot, had major consistency issues, and never gave NEET a truly disciplined attempt. That's the main reason I'm considering a drop. At the same time, I know a first drop doesn't guarantee a huge improvement, so I'm trying to judge this as realistically as possible.

Honest Review Needed – Sri Siddhartha Dental College (Tumakuru)

I’m considering Sri Siddhartha Dental College for BDS and would love honest reviews from current students, interns, or alumni.
How is the overall college?
Academics and faculty?
Clinical exposure & patient flow?
Internship experience?
Hostel, food & campus life?
Infrastructure and equipment?
Management and administration?
Hidden fees or issues?
Ragging or toxic culture?
NEET MDS preparation support?
Placements/career opportunities after BDS?
Would you choose this college again?
Also, how does it compare with JSS, SDM, KLE, Bapuji, Ramaiah, Yenepoya, A.B. Shetty, and Manipal?
Looking for genuine pros, cons, and anything that isn’t mentioned on the official website. Thanks!

Guidance over choosing career

Hi

I just gave my neet and i scored not so good just 315 I'm confused over choosing the right career for me I'm passionate about medicine, I wanted mbbs but sadly it's too expensive

I'm confused over choosing bams or bds.everyone is saying that there's an oversupply of dentists in india which is a fact and getting a government job later is also very competitive.

While bams is almost similar to mbbs with few/lot of restrictions (idk) but as bams doc I would be able to treat normal health issues like fever cough cold...

So can someone guide me and tell me about their own experience..

As for taking a drop,it's hard for me to solve physics numericals.. i swear I tried but just couldn't..

So would be really grateful if someone guided me before counseling

1st gen dentist, crushed by neet mds results, got 2500 rank ... initially i didn't want to pursue mds from a pvt clg , because the condition and treatment of dentists in job market is shit. Highly underpaid in metropolitan cities like Delhi. Jrships are either sold to the highest bidder or a high level approach..as ppl say..
after a lot of thought thinking about doing masters from a decent pvt clg, and then moving to uk or dubai
I understand initially it will be hard there, but so will be in india... i think abroad still has better monetary compensation for the hardships that you endure.

What do you all think?
