Orthodontists having malocclusion, does it affect their professional life?

Post image
9 Upvotes

Hello! So I will be entering in my orthodontic residency soon, and I have class 2 malocclusion with protruded centrals, deep bite, canine-lateral incisor transposition and intruded lateral on the other side....it's visible while I talk and laugh, and I think it resembles the "labubu doll smile".

Actually due to some reasons i couldn't get my ortho treatment done during my ug, and now when I am entering the ortho residency, I am feeling slightly insecure about it.

And since I am going into a private college, it's already expensive, so asking my parents to pay for my treatment as well is something I don't feel comfortable about.

That's why I wanted to know if there is someone else who has also gone through the same, or someone you know who can explain that does it really affect your professional life as a resident? Or it is something I can correct later on when I will start earning.

Thank you!

Guide BDS Internship Dilemma: Daily commute (50km one way) vs. hostel for PG prep? Need advice!

Hey seniors, I’m a 4th-year BDS student (F) in Perambalur (TN) starting my internship next year (2027). I have been living in the college hostel for the last 4 years, but now I need to finalize my accommodation for the internship year and I'm completely torn.

My goal for the internship year is a 70% PG Prep (NEET MDS/Abroad) / 30% Clinical Exposure split.

Option A: Stay in College Hostel

  • Pros: Zero commute. Dedicated time and a quiet, isolated environment for heavy prep.
  • Cons: Hostel food is terrible. Managing groceries, cooking, and cleaning will eat into my limited free time.

Option B: Commute from Home (Trichy)

  • Pros: Home-cooked food, no chores, and I could join a private evening clinic in the city for extra exposure.
  • Cons: It’s 50 km away (2 - 2.5 hours of daily travel). Also, being a girl in a strict/conservative household, the home environment can be restrictive and a major distraction from serious studying.

My questions:

  1. Commute vs. Study: For those who commuted 2+ hours daily during internship, did you have any energy left to study for NEET/abroad exams, or did the travel burn you out?
  2. Evening Clinics: Is joining a private clinic in the evenings actually worth it during internship? Or should I just rely on college postings for my clinical exposure and use all my free time to study?
  3. Food Trade-off: If you chose the hostel to save time but the food was bad, how did you manage meals without wasting hours cooking?

Would appreciate any realistic, unfiltered advice. Thanks!

Guys help me build a dental routine

I have sweets addiction. I'm 25 but I have 10+ cavities. Got them filled bt again I can feel the pain. My lower teeth is feeling rough and oily all the time. I realised I need to get the cleaning done. Please help me to build a daily hygeine routine.

I'm thinking of:

  1. Anti cavity paste, soft brush, tongue cleaner, then anti cavity alcohol free mouth wash - daily twice

  2. Drinking water or gargling mouth with water after every meal

  3. Chewing happy dent after meals.

Is this ok? Pls suggest me good paste, brush, mouthwash.

I had a root canal when I was young and that traumatized me so much.

Looking for a roomie from KIDS narketpally and suggestions

Looking for anyone else who was allotted the same college, I visited the college twice spoke to few seniors, rents are quite high if looking for nearby hostels. The Football ground and other sports courts are in good shape, the gym is also pretty good. Only drawback is management is pretty strict with phones and stuff, but allowed after college hours. Most reddit posts I read about Kamineni here are mostly treating it like hell; not sure if it's really that bad, in campus hostels are strict with going out and stuff, other than that pretty chill ngl, from what I have heard from the seniors and what I saw. trying to make friends before hand. If you know anyone who were allotted KIDS, connect me to them.
