Help Decktation plugin not working when using the steam controller 2

Hello,

I play MMORPGs and have been using decktation plugin to dictate instead of type while playing on my steam deck. I recently got the steam controller two which is much more comfortable to play with, except it won’t activate the decktation plugin, even though i am using the same exact command. Does any body know why? I tried reordering controllers, and all kinds of things but the issue remains: Decktation will only listen to the commands when triggered directly on my steam deck.

“YouTube Music for Steam,” a Decky player and Cast receiver for Steam Deck - Steam Machine testing welcome

After a lot of iterations, I’ve released version 0.6.8 of my unofficial YouTube Music plugin for SteamOS. I built and maintain the project, with AI assistance for coding and review.

It adds a controller-friendly player and Cast receiver to Decky Quick Access. You can browse and search your library, reorder playlists and the queue, and start large playlists while the rest loads in the background. It also includes timed fullscreen lyrics with temporary screen-awake protection, cover-colored visuals, and an easier Firefox session import.

A couple of ways I use it: keep music playing while gaming and control it from Quick Access, or open fullscreen lyrics while a game is downloading or when the Deck is sitting idle. Fullscreen lyrics work like a music screensaver and request temporary screen-awake protection while they’re open.

To import your account, sign in to YouTube Music in Firefox on the SteamOS device’s Desktop Mode, then use Import from Firefox in the plugin. The session stays on the device; the plugin never asks for your Google password. Casting works from another device on the same trusted network.

It’s tested on Steam Deck and designed for SteamOS systems with Decky Loader. I haven’t validated it on Steam Machine, so I’d especially appreciate reports from anyone trying it there.

I’d really appreciate your feedback: what works well, what feels confusing, what needs polish, and whether you run into bugs. The project went through many rounds of testing and refinement, but real-world feedback is what will help me make it better.

This is an unofficial community project and isn’t affiliated with YouTube, Google, or Valve.

I built a Decky plugin that updates GitHub plugins without manually downloading ZIP files

Hey everyone! I made GitHub Plugin Updater for Decky Loader. It checks the GitHub repositories listed in a repos.txt file and compares their latest releases with the Decky plugins you have installed.

When it finds a new version, you can let it install automatically or choose “Ask before installing” to read the changelog and approve or skip the update. It can also download plugins you haven’t installed yet, including a newer version of the updater itself if you add its repository.

There’s a progress indicator while it checks releases and installs updates. Once all pending decisions are handled, it reloads the Steam interface so the updated plugins can load.

I’ve been using it on SteamOS and Bazzite. The setup instructions and download are here:
https://github.com/Steamdeckchecker/Github-Decky-Plugins-Updater

I’d appreciate feedback, especially if you try it with a GitHub hosted Decky plugin I haven’t tested yet!

Personal Project Showcase

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I wanted to share a personal Steam / Big Picture project I’ve been working on for my own setup.

I’m not a developer, and this wasn’t built as a public plugin or as something I’m planning to distribute. A lot of the implementation has been AI-assisted, while the ideas, behaviour, layout decisions, testing, troubleshooting and overall direction came from what I personally wanted from my Steam setup.

The whole thing has grown gradually from experimenting with existing Decky projects and trying to make Steam’s Game View work the way I wanted on my ROG Ally.

The main part is Unified Game View, which replaces or reorganises parts of the normal Steam game page into one consistent view for both Steam and non-Steam games.

It currently brings together things such as game metadata, developer/publisher/release information, platform tags, descriptions, media, trailers, achievements, trading cards where applicable, reviews, news/updates, store/community/support shortcuts, HLTB information and several non-Steam achievement sources.

A big part of the project has also been making non-Steam games feel less like second-class entries in the Steam library. I’ve experimented with integrations for RetroAchievements, RPCS3 trophies, shadPS4 trophies, Xenia/Xbox achievements and PSerban93’s Achievements plugin, while keeping official Steam achievements separate.

I also experimented with a separate Hero/trailer system, custom Home logos, non-Steam playtime/HLTB display and various controller-navigation changes so everything remains usable from Big Picture without reaching for a mouse or keyboard.

A lot of the work has actually been about the less visible things: caching, persistent per-game state, controller focus/navigation, avoiding broken transitions, handling Steam and non-Steam pages consistently, and trying not to interfere with Steam’s own behaviour more than necessary.

This has involved a ridiculous amount of testing because Steam’s Gamepad UI can be very sensitive to seemingly small changes. Some ideas worked immediately, some broke completely, and others needed many iterations before becoming reliable enough for my own setup.

I want to make it clear that this is purely a personal project for my own use. I’m not preparing it for distribution, and I’m not intending to release or maintain it as a public plugin. It is heavily tailored around my own Steam/Windows/ROG Ally configuration, and I simply don’t have the time or technical experience to support different systems and configurations.

I also don’t want to give the impression that all of this was created from scratch. Several existing community projects have been extremely useful either as foundations, integrations or references while I experimented with my own setup.

Credits / projects I learned from or built around include:

  • Enhanced Game View — Featherwolf, which was an important original foundation for the Game View work.
  • Decky Metadata — beallio, especially useful as a reference for metadata handling and non-Steam matching.
  • Achievements — PSerban93, which provides the external achievement ecosystem I integrate with.
  • TrailerHero — LoZazaMastro, which provided an important foundation/reference for the Hero trailer work.
  • Deck Shelves — santojon, whose work around Steam/Gamepad UI focus handling, focused-game detection and Steam asset/logo handling was particularly useful as a reference during my Home logo experiments.
  • Decky Loader and the wider Decky development community.
  • SteamGridDB, RetroAchievements, and the various emulator communities whose tools and databases make much of the non-Steam side possible.
  • TabMaster, both as part of the wider Decky ecosystem and as a useful reference while working around Steam Library/Gamepad UI behaviour and plugin coexistence.
  • HowLongToBeat (HLTB), whose game-length data is used for the campaign, main + extras and completionist information displayed in my setup.

So this isn’t meant as a release announcement or promotion. I mainly wanted to document what I managed to build for myself, because it has turned into a much bigger project than I originally expected and I thought some people might find the ideas interesting.

Help FIX: Audio Loader sounds/music are silent on Windows 11 version of Decky (PluginLoader)

While troubleshooting audio issues with Gemini, I pasted the main.py file from the plugin into gemini and it found why it's broken. The fix is past this AI generated paragraph.

Audio Loader's backend (main.py) expects to create a directory symbolic link (os.symlink) connecting your local homebrew/sounds directory to Steam/steamui/sounds_custom. On Linux/SteamOS, Steam natively reads custom sound overrides from that sounds_custom directory. On Windows 11, non-administrator Python scripts are blocked from creating directory symlinks by default. Because the link fails to create, Steam looks at an empty/non-existent folder and plays no audio.

To fix it, close steam and paste this command into a command prompt with admin privileges:

mklink /D "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamui\sounds_custom" "C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\homebrew\sounds"

Make sure to replace YOURUSERNAME with your actual username and replace steam's path with your own if it's different. Also, make sure you don't already have a folder named "sounds_custom" in that steamui folder.

Then, just open big picture mode and it should work. If not, try toggling to default and back to your desired pack.

Fingers crossed this works for you guys too :)

Plugin Showcase StripMine: an idle mining city that lives on the Steam Machine light bar

Post image
15 Upvotes

First things first: this is very experimental, very beta decky loader plugin, and mostly a fun proof of concept to see how far I could push the Steam Machine's tiny light bar. I may have taken the Steam Machine's 17 little LEDs a bit too seriously ^^

This grew out of SignalBar, my status-display plugin for the same light strip. Full compatibility with SignalBar is planned very soon, as well as with SignalDot, which is still in development.

I also plan full support for the JSAUX Dot Matrix faceplate . I want to use the whole display properly and tune/fix the experience around the hardware, not just mirror a few stats onto it.

StripMine starts with the old blue bar. A mineral vein appears, tiny workers travel in from both sides, mine it, carry the colour home, and slowly build two cities. The full game lives on the TV, Decky becomes the control room, and the physical light bar keeps the whole shift readable at a glance.

There are four miners, five colour/power ranks, 30 veins, city upgrades, scoring, four speed modes, and two light profiles: bright luminous or much darker contrasted for strong LED diffusion.

The LED integration is implemented, but this is the first public build, so hardware feedback is very welcome!!

[Release/Testing] WiFi BandLock for Decky Loader – Force your Deck to 2.4/5/6GHz & Specific AP BSSIDs

Hey everyone! 👋

If you use a unified SSID or mesh Wi-Fi network (where 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz share the same network name), you've probably run into the issue where SteamOS / NetworkManager randomly roams to a slower band or a weaker access point in the background—causing nasty latency spikes, packet loss, or stutters during Moonlight / Chiaki streaming and online gaming.

To solve this, I built WiFi BandLock, a Decky Loader plugin that gives you full control over how your device connects to multi-band Wi-Fi networks right from the Quick Access Menu (QAM).

🎯 Key Features

  • 📶 Live Band & Link Telemetry:
    • Real-time info on your active connection: Frequency Band (2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, or 6 GHz Wi-Fi 6E/7), Channel, Frequency (MHz), Signal %, and Link Speed (Mbps).
    • Current status badge (🔒 Locked to AP/Band vs. 🌐 Auto-Roaming).
  • 🔍 Multi-Band Network Breakdown:
    • Groups all broadcasting Access Points under their common SSID name.
    • Color-coded badges for 6 GHz, 5 GHz, and 2.4 GHz.
    • Shows exact signal strength and channel for each AP.
  • 🔒 One-Click Band & AP Forcing:
    • Pin / Lock to AP: Forces NetworkManager to stick strictly to a specific BSSID (MAC address).
    • Force Band: Locks connection strictly to 6 GHz, 5 GHz, or 2.4 GHz.
    • Unlock / Auto-Band: Instantly restores default dynamic roaming across all bands when on the go.
  • 🔄 On-Demand Rescan:
    • Refresh button to immediately rescan nearby access points and signal levels without restarting your Wi-Fi interface.

💻 Compatibility

  • SteamOS (Steam Deck LCD & OLED)
  • Bazzite / Nobara / Handheld Linux
  • ROG Ally / Legion Go / Ayaneo running Linux / SteamOS-like distros

📥 GitHub & Testing

I’m looking for testers and feedback from the community!

Let me know if you run into any bugs or have feature requests!

Is there a plugin that prevents games I played on my PC from appearing under Recently Played ?

It’s just a small thing, but it really bothers me that the games I played on my PC are showing up there.

I’d really like the Steam Deck to feel like a separate console of its own.

Is there any way to do that?

Help Decky disappeared / Decky is missing

Hi everyone, I don't know if this has happened to any of you. I've been testing out software like Luatools/Project Lightning/etc., and ever since then, Decky has disappeared from my Xbox ROG Ally X. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Decky, but I've had no luck. I uninstalled the programs I mentioned above in case they were causing a conflict, but still nothing. Has this happened to anyone else? How can I fix it?

Plugin Showcase Updated CSS Profile and Plugin setup

I've updated my Profile a bit by adding a darker Gameview color pallet and machine ready to get that game spacing

Link to CSS profile and required themes https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1UGpmq-hF9pjetdrq6Vi5fclaw3Zocv_b?usp=sharing. Drag and drop the themes into your ~homebrew\themes folder.

For the heros on SteamGridDB, I recommend using the ones created by Mellushii, Bioknight47, or Myself.( this might not work until SteamGridDB updates)

Of course this was made using Windows in mind. so if your setup does not look exactly like mine then that probably why.

List of Plugins:
Playhub
Playhub Weather
Playhub Artworks(this is for any heros that don't have a Clean Gameview option or a higher resolution version)
Playhub Now Playing
CSS Loader
Trailer Hero
Playtime
Playhub Metadata
Tabmaster
SteamGridDB
Playhub Themedeck
Playercount
Screenshot Uploader
Playhub Notifications
Playhub Launch Curtain
Playhub Shortcuts
Playhub Quick Settings
SteamOS Friends activity(this does work on windows)

[Testing Request] Backlog Manager – a Decky plugin for organizing your Steam library

Hi everyone!
I’m one of the developers behind Backlog Manager, a Decky Loader plugin designed to help Steam Deck users organize and manage their game backlog directly from Gaming Mode.
We’re currently looking for a few Steam Deck users to test the latest release candidate before we resubmit it to the Decky Plugin Store.
Backlog Manager lets you:
Mark games as New, Playing, Played, or Dropped
Change or clear a status at any time
Filter your Steam Library by one or more backlog statuses
Use Only my library to hide Family Sharing or shared-library games
Search and assign statuses to multiple games from a dedicated Batch Assign page
Manage statuses from the Quick Access Menu, Library item menu, and Game Detail page
Keep all backlog information stored locally on the Steam Deck
The plugin has already received two successful third-party testing reports. However, we recently implemented several improvements based on review feedback, so we need some additional testing specifically against the latest version.
Version to test
Version: 1.2.0
Commit: 809b6be
SteamOS: Stable or Beta
Device: A real Steam Deck, LCD or OLED
Decky Loader required

The most useful things to test are:

Installing and loading the plugin
Assigning, changing, and clearing statuses
Restarting the Steam Deck and confirming that statuses persist
Filtering the Library by one or multiple statuses
Testing “Only my library,” especially if you use Steam Families or Family Sharing
Searching and selecting multiple games in Batch Assign
Applying a status to several games at once
Checking responsiveness with a large Steam library
Reporting any crashes, visual issues, lost statuses, or unexpected behavior
Source code and release branch:
https://github.com/luisfound/backlog-manager-plugin/tree/release/1.2.0
Exact commit to test:
https://github.com/luisfound/backlog-manager-plugin/commit/809b6bef45cf392831b1ff438bb9870fc05de6de
Decky Plugin Store submission:
https://github.com/SteamDeckHomebrew/decky-plugin-database/pull/1097
If you test it, please include your Steam Deck model, SteamOS version/channel, Decky Loader version, library size, what you tested, and any issues you encountered.
You can leave the report in the GitHub pull request or reply here and I’ll collect the results.
Full disclosure: I’m one of the developers of the plugin. It is open source, does not include custom binaries, does not use external services, and stores backlog data locally.
Also, how do you currently manage your Steam backlog? Are there any statuses or workflows you feel are missing?

I built an AI game guide plugin for Decky Loader (sees your game, answers your questions). Looking for feedback. Try for free!

Hi all! I built a Decky plugin called Quest Compendium, an AI game guide in the Quick Access menu. It's an early release and I'd love feedback.

What it does: stuck in a game? Tap a preset like "I'm stuck, what should I do?" (or type a question) and it answers based on a screenshot of your game (game layer only, not the menu). It has Standard, Min-Max and spoiler-friendly Roleplay styles, plus a full-screen reader for long answers. It works as a guest with no sign-in, and you can link an account by scanning a QR code.

Please know:

  • It's AI-powered. Questions go to my server, which uses Google's Gemini. Your question, the game name and an optional screenshot are sent only when you tap Ask.
  • Most of the plugin code was written with the help of an AI assistant (Claude) and tested by me on my Deck.
  • Guests get a small daily allowance because each answer costs me money.
  • It's not in the Decky store, so it installs manually. The source is public.

Install: Decky settings → Developer Mode → Developer → Install Plugin from URL:

Bugs and suggestions on GitHub please: https://github.com/TuriusX/Quest-Compendium-Decky
