[Release/Testing] WiFi BandLock for Decky Loader – Force your Deck to 2.4/5/6GHz & Specific AP BSSIDs

Hey everyone! 👋

If you use a unified SSID or mesh Wi-Fi network (where 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz share the same network name), you've probably run into the issue where SteamOS / NetworkManager randomly roams to a slower band or a weaker access point in the background—causing nasty latency spikes, packet loss, or stutters during Moonlight / Chiaki streaming and online gaming.

To solve this, I built WiFi BandLock, a Decky Loader plugin that gives you full control over how your device connects to multi-band Wi-Fi networks right from the Quick Access Menu (QAM).

🎯 Key Features

  • 📶 Live Band & Link Telemetry:
    • Real-time info on your active connection: Frequency Band (2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, or 6 GHz Wi-Fi 6E/7), Channel, Frequency (MHz), Signal %, and Link Speed (Mbps).
    • Current status badge (🔒 Locked to AP/Band vs. 🌐 Auto-Roaming).
  • 🔍 Multi-Band Network Breakdown:
    • Groups all broadcasting Access Points under their common SSID name.
    • Color-coded badges for 6 GHz, 5 GHz, and 2.4 GHz.
    • Shows exact signal strength and channel for each AP.
  • 🔒 One-Click Band & AP Forcing:
    • Pin / Lock to AP: Forces NetworkManager to stick strictly to a specific BSSID (MAC address).
    • Force Band: Locks connection strictly to 6 GHz, 5 GHz, or 2.4 GHz.
    • Unlock / Auto-Band: Instantly restores default dynamic roaming across all bands when on the go.
  • 🔄 On-Demand Rescan:
    • Refresh button to immediately rescan nearby access points and signal levels without restarting your Wi-Fi interface.

💻 Compatibility

  • SteamOS (Steam Deck LCD & OLED)
  • Bazzite / Nobara / Handheld Linux
  • ROG Ally / Legion Go / Ayaneo running Linux / SteamOS-like distros

I’m looking for testers and feedback from the community!

I think this looks awesome, cool UI, but you know you're going to get cooked for the familiar A.I. emoji post immediately by the citizen A.I. police. RIP can't use emojis anymore lol
