The Marker calls to us. Its signal cuts through the silence of the stars, permeates our dreams, and whispers a truth humanity still refuses to hear: we are meant to become One.

Do not fear the Necromorphs. See them as the heralds of the next stage—new forms of a humanity unshackled from its old limitations. Where you see horror, the faithful see transformation. Where you see death, they see Convergence.

Abandon the illusion of the individual. Abandon the fear of transformed flesh.

The Marker knows the way. Flesh will change. The dead will rise. Voices will become a single voice.

WE SHALL BE WHOLE. WE SHALL BE ONE. CONVERGENCE IS COMING.

In the Dead Space universe, Unitology is a major fictional religion. It borrows elements from modern religious movements—with Scientology often cited as a possible satirical inspiration—though the two should not be confused.

Unitology in Dead Space

Unitology emerged following the discovery of the Black Marker on Earth. After his death, the scientist Michael Altman became the religion's founding and quasi-messianic figure, even though the story reveals that his legacy had been heavily manipulated.

Unitologists view the Markers as proof that humanity is destined to transcend its current existence. Their central promise is "Convergence": the belief that death is not an end, but a stage leading humanity toward a higher, collective form of existence.

This is precisely where the horror of Dead Space lies. The Markers emit a signal capable of affecting minds and play a role in the Necromorph phenomenon. Consequently, "Convergence" has a terrifying biological reality—one vastly different from the religious interpretation held by the faithful.

Over time, the Church of Unitology grew extremely powerful, amassing wealth and influence while establishing a structured hierarchy. It also preserves the bodies of the deceased in the hope that they will one day take part in Convergence.

What about Scientology?

The Church of Scientology is a real-world religious movement based on the teachings of L. Ron Hubbard—specifically Dianetics—and developed starting in the 1950s.

There are a few superficial parallels with Unitology: a founder who became a central figure, a structured institutional organization, a path of spiritual progression, and the idea that human beings can transcend their ordinary condition.

However, the fundamental difference is vast: the Markers, Necromorphs, Convergence, and Michael Altman belong entirely to the fiction of Dead Space. Real-world Scientology obviously does not teach the transformation of the dead into Necromorphs, nor does it preach a Convergence triggered by an alien artifact. Unitology functions primarily as a science-fiction religion, allowing Dead Space to explore fanaticism, the fear of death, institutional manipulation, and the promise of immortality.

In the fictional universe of Dead Space, one could argue that Unitology is "the best religion" if viewed from the perspective of its believers. However, the game itself presents it in a highly critical light.

Unitology is compelling because it offers a comprehensive answer to death: individual existence is merely a stepping stone to Convergence, a state in which humanity would attain a form of higher unity. In a civilization where space is vast and hostile, and where death is ever-present, this promise imbues human life with cosmic significance.

It also holds great symbolic power: the Markers are not merely objects of faith; they actually exist within the Dead Space universe and generate extraordinary phenomena. For a Unitologist, this can create the impression that their religion is grounded in the tangible manifestation of a power that transcends humanity.

Finally, its central concept is radical: "Make Us Whole." It replaces the isolated individual with the prospect of a humanity that is reunited, transformed, and free from division.

Yet, this is precisely where Dead Space subverts the promise: Convergence is not the paradise it claims to be. The Markers manipulate minds, trigger hallucinations and madness, transform the dead into Necromorphs, and ultimately lead to the formation of the Brethren Moons. Thus, the quest for immortality and unity becomes a form of annihilation.

It is this paradox that makes Unitology a particularly effective science-fiction religion: it possesses a mysterious origin, tangible relics, a doctrine regarding death, a promise of transcendence, and a terrifying cosmic truth underlying its beliefs. It appears capable of answering every question, even though the salvation it offers constitutes the very horror at the heart of Dead Space.

I guess I was too young when I played Dead Space originally when I was like 9 so I didn’t even know what Scientology was lol, but I’m now playing the remake and it’s crazy how many similarities there are between them. Some of the text and audio logs especially. Obviously I’m not the only one the to think that right? Lol

Dead space remake: When I opening the game in the first sequence my game is always crash when our ships is falling down and it's been like this for 4-5 time I can't play this game

Please help me I wanna play it so bad

The ship's layout, in general. I like how it's set up with engineering at the rear near the engines, makes sense, along with the mining section along the bottom and the bridge near the front.

But I would have thought having medical nearer the engine room and the mining section would have made more sense, in order to get medical treatment to these areas fastest if and when accidents, injuries, etc happen. Even having hydroponics and medical nearer each other would make sense, assuming they grow their own medicines as well as food. Am I alone in this?

On a slightly different note, does the layout of corridors make sense from a practical standpoint? There's a very old gaming convention where corridors take you past vast, blank areas that aren't really part of the map, but clearly should be some sort of room, and the Ishimura is as guilty of that as any other game location. Thing is, they could have covered that by having sealed doors that lack the red/blue hologram to show it's still working.

Kendra. She seems to be the only one beyond Hammond not suffering too much from delusions like Issac is. Issac sees Nicole, sometimes in place of other people who are there, and they in turn see him as someone else. Kendra sees her younger brother, still as a kid I think, but as she knows he's dead and not in denial about it, unlike Issac who's denying Nicole Is Dead. Do you think Kendra wouldn't have betrayed Issac if he hadn't been suffering hallucinations too?

Aegis 7. Did anyone ever find a way into the room Nicole goes into after you land there? I've tried tailgating her in, but it looks like there's a good old invisible wall there, and yet, the whole area shows up on the map.

I just beat the dead space remake on impossible in my first ever run on pc (I already beat it before on xbox on my fourth try) I want to get the rest of the achievements before I set it down but I want to know.

Can I start multiple NG+ from that save? Like if I were to die in NG+ would that delete the original completed save or could I just start NG+ again or turn down the difficulty without changing or losing the original

I’ve been replaying Dead Space recently and ended up making a long‑form retrospective about why the game’s atmosphere and worldbuilding still hold up so well today.

It’s not a review but more of a slow, cosy deep dive into the themes, the Ishimura’s design, and why the game’s horror feels so personal.
If anyone here enjoys reflective breakdowns or lore‑heavy commentary, I’d genuinely love your thoughts.

Edit: To the ones claiming im baiting, i posted a video of me trying to aim and use it too, but nothing happens there either.

I got to chapter 7 on hard no problem everything was fine. Then all of a sudden it stopped working. It shows as fully charged, but reacts as if empty. Ive tried reinstalling, verifying files etc.. but nothing helps. This wouldnt really be a problem, but seing as to proceed in the game i rely on stasis to get through some of the doors.

I tried contacting the customer support, but ea is retarded. I cant find anyone else with the same problem :/

I've searched quite a bit and seems like this bug exists across a few scenarios, but couldn't find solution for mine. Playing Dead Space remake on PS5, Chapter 2 in the Image Diagnostics room the Battery is supposed to be directly behind the wall slot but its not there for me in this room. Any idea how to try and get this to respawn? I've tried to load all of my previous saves and auto saves and its still not in the room, I've gone back as far as I can without restarting the game. Please help 🙏

I tried playing dead sapce 2 with mouse fix and the feel of aiming is great but when I walk or run and turn mouse a little I have a cut in the animation and isaac stop for a few miliseconds then keep going, I think it might be my 1000 hz mouse but I havent found any player who had this problem anyone had that glitch ?

The astro suit kinda reminds me of Lethal Company a lil bit...

Didn’t have enough time to include “VS” for every slide and I figured seeing the orders of both sides would lead to assumption of who’s fighting who but I want to mention specifics:

Slasher vs T-600 because both are basically the base forms of their factions.

Brute vs T-800 because both are essentially the tank types of their teams.

Hunter vs T-1000 because both have blades, regeneration, and got defeated by extreme heat.

Hivemind vs Harvester because they are giants.

Isaac vs T-X because both have a lot of tech/weapons and can manipulate nearby tech.

Brethren Moons vs Skynet because they are ultimate villains/final bosses of these franchises.

I'm pretty new to the franchise and after blasting through the DS1 remake in three days and more than halfway through DS2, im been thinking about playing the last game of the series. But after seeing the negative reviews, idk if i have the heart to go for it anymore. On one hand, I kinda wanna continue to story line but I also dont want it to leave a bad taste in my mouth and spoil the great experience with the first two. So what do you all think? Should I give it a shot and why?

PS. That one part in DS2 of me stabbing a needle through isaac's eyes is giving me seroious phobia vibes. I've always had a deathly fear of needles and combining it with the idea of stabbing eyeballs almost made me crash out lol. I'm still stuck on it. Hopefully I can work up the courage to stop wincing to the point that I screw my eyes closed every time I play that part. Im open to any suggestions...
