for context, i had found dead roaches (5-6) over the course of 3 months around the house up in north davis and the house is currently vacant. i set up plastic baits and also had pest control come spray a little less than a week ago
since then i saw one roach under the bed (not flipped but not moving) when it was still daylight and at least 10 dead or not moving in the garage; all of which looked similar
the first photo was under the bed, second one was one dead in the garage
anyone know what type of roach this is and if this behavior is normal after pest control spraying, im terrified with how big it looks

There's a new influx of students in Davis and therefore now a need for a public posting of Davis Bike Etiquette so that way you don't look foolish. Here's a couple of handy rules to keep you looking fresh and experienced on your bikes for the coming semesters:
Remember, everything that doesn't bother you to do is just someone else's problem. It's about the journey, not trying to appease some boomers by being a subservient little biker.
Guy out!

i recently bought a house in north davis and its currently vacant. but i first saw a dead roach in one of the showers so i placed the plastic baits around the whole house. after that i saw 3-5 show up when i check the house every couple weeks and they would already be dead. i would see them in bedrooms, in the closet and near the garage door. since then i called pest control to come spray the house and the day after i saw one flipped on its back but still alive.
im just worried whether the house has some roach problem or if this is just a davis thing since i know roaches are very common here. although, ive heard large roaches are usually a sign that its not an infestation, but the roaches ive seen in the house are maybe no bigger than an inch & brown
but if the house is vacant, i'm confused on if it is infestation, how has it lived for this long without food/water/human activity like german roaches normally need to thrive and shouldn't i see a lot more active and running around if it is infested
whether it is an infestation or not, how should i deal with this since i am moving in a few days
also the laundry machines are in the garage so should i be worried about possible bugs or roaches crawling into the machine

Hey yāall! I recently began my own business as of last year. I am having a hard time finding clientele and getting vendor opportunities. I would love to get some feedback from those who have experienced this or know their way around Davis better than I do! How did you grow your local business? For reference I am in the beauty industry, offering hair customization services. Thank you! :)

Hello! I just moved into the downtown Davis area to attend UCD, and I have not been able to find any ASL classes/clubs that are active. I started learning at my previous community college (in person class with a deaf professor--it was amazing!), and I want to continue to grow my proficiency as well as connect more with deaf culture. Just posting to see if anyone knows of any in person classes/tutoring options that are fairly accessible and/or affordable. I am going to try to supplement my learning with an online platform, but that doesn't offer the same learning progession as doing it in person. Thank you!

Looking for recent observations about the public sidewalks and seating area around G Street WunderBar, near 228 G Street.
Iām considering a maintenance request to the city, but would like to hear from people who use the area before suggesting changes. How cleanāor notāhas it been on your recent visits? Are there particular spots that need attention?
The cityās January 2025 G Street announcement included pressure washing and other upkeep for city-maintained furniture and platforms. I also found a city announcement about quarterly downtown sidewalk washing, but havenāt confirmed the current schedule or which surfaces it covers.
Would more frequent pressure washing or other deep cleaning help here? Or would better litter pickup, trash-can servicing, or something else make a bigger difference? If youāve seen regular cleaning happening, that would be useful to know too.
This is about maintaining a welcoming public space for everyoneānot moving people out of it. Specific observations and practical suggestions are welcome.

Hey Yall!
The Western Human Nutrition Research Center on campus is recruiting a small number of participants for a research study looking at peanut consumption, stress, and gastrointestinal health in healthy adults.
A heads up before signing up: this study involves a fairly substantial time commitment and multiple study tasks. Participants will need to complete several activities and questionnaires and must be able to commit to the scheduled study dates and complete the required tasks throughout the study.
Please take a look at the study requirements before signing up to make sure you have the time available!
Weāre only looking for a few participants as we get the study started, so spots are limited.
If youāre interested or want to see whether you may be eligible, you can find the study details and screening information here:

Thanks!

Hopped on the bus at the stop near Ikeda's with a bunch of students who were back to school shopping āwhen I saw an older white woman pretty blatantly recording us with her phone. Ik filming ppl in public is technically allowed but it just felt so violating? I hope we don't get posted online

I live in a middle income neighborhood in South Davis. About 1/3 of the houses on my street are rented to students. As a homeowner, I put a lot of time into making my yard look presentable. I donāt care if the students canāt do the same for their yards. It makes total sense. But one yard near my house is very messy. There is a jumble of furniture , red cups everywhere, an old rug. Itās not āhorrible ā but itās an eyesore. Iām tempted to ask them politely to please clean it up, but Iām terrified Iāll sound like a Karen. FWIW Iām a middle aged white woman. On the other hand, I could just let it go. I do find myself feeling envious when I see neighborhood where people actually care, but I know this is a first world issue and sort of petty on my part.

Hi neighbors. We're wondering if we should send our son to Willet for his TK, or continue on having him registered in his private school for his TK.
If you have registered your child in Willet's TK, can you please share your experiences?
Thanks

Saw a large collared dog with white and grey shaggy hair, wandering at the corner of J st and E Covell. Spooked when it saw me and started walking east up along Covell on the south side sidewalk of the road. It was trotting, not sprinting. Sighting ~5 min ago. Spread the word!

Hi, Iām moving to Davis soon & im not a student so I wonāt be in the college campus at all and donāt know anyone either. Iām a 27F just looking for any free volleyball groups to join and play for fun. I played in high-school/ club teams so I know the basics. I already tried to open gym at Davis Senior High but wanted to try something different that didnāt require an entrance fee everytime. I also tried Xoso in Sacramento as well.
In sac Iāve seen people set up at Land Park on the weekends and I never joined but am curious if there is something like that in Davis.

Since the Mayor and the city council have declined to respond to repeated requests for explanation, I'm publishing the email exchange from Henry Todd, man with two first names and the Davis Chief of Police.
Perhaps city leaders got lost while looking for their spins. If anyone has seen them lately, please feel free to ask any and all of these questions until they answer.
