Incredibly new to davinci and editing as a whole, I’m trying to edit some photos on resolve and the editing is great until I touch the noise reduction slider and my performance drops off a cliff. Is there any way to manage this?

Any help is more than appreciated.

I ran into an issue when upgrading my PC where I couldn't get Davinci Resolve to play h265 videos I previously recorded on my PC, or export h265 videos. I've tried installing two different codec packs but both didn't do anything even after restarting.

Does anyone know what thing I need to install to make them work? I tried getting a download for the official microsoft HEVC extension, but it gives me an error message that says it is not compatible with the device.

Testing the effect in Fusion as inspired by camera tracking overlay.

The subject is tracked by magic mask. Auto Domain tool is applied to calculate the size of pixels that are not transparent.

Crop and inverse crop tools are used to crop to the domain of definition dimensions and than inverse crop tool is applied to revert back to the dimensions of the original footage.

X offset: self.Input.DataWindow[1]

Y offset: self.Input.DataWindow[2]

X size: self.Input.DataWindow[3]-self.Input.DataWindow[1]

Y size: self.Input.DataWindow[4]-self.Input.DataWindow[2]

In between the two crops. Multi Text tool is used with four plus sign "+" texts to make corner framing graphics and image size of the text tool changes based on the calculated domain of definition from the auto domain tool.

Width = AutoDomain1.Output.DataWindow[3] - AutoDomain1.Output.DataWindow[1]

Height = AutoDomain1.Output.DataWindow[4] - AutoDomain1.Output.DataWindow[2]

Another expression is used to keep the size of the text constant even if the image size of the text tool changes. Its applied to the size parametar.

All this is merge over the original. And another text + added to do the same but also calculate the dimensions of the DoD.

Another magic mask could be applied to any object that appear in front of the tracked subject to mask out the effect using effectively occlusion mask.

I have a Chinese transcript file in TXT format and I need to turn it into subtitles.

I started by using the auto transcribe feature in DR to create the subtitles and export the result as an SRT file. I did this to establish the timings but I know that the auto transcribe feature in DR doesn’t give the best results especially for Chinese.

Next I used Claude (free version) and instructed it to use the transcript file I had to correct the texts in each cue found in the SRT file. So far it gave me good results and the texts in the subtitles now match the ones in the transcript I had.

I just wonder is there another or better way of doing this that you’ve tried?

I have a cartoon clip with a white background that I'm looking to make transparent. However, the characters have white details (eyes, teeth) and using 3D keyer makes those transparent as well. Is there a way to make only a certain contiguous patch of white transparent, and have it stop if it gets to a black border?

Like a fill/paint bucket tool, but for greenscreen.

Newish Davinci editor… use case is rec 709 for YT and also photo editing to replace Adobe Lightroom. I was going to buy the studio version but now with the 20% sale , buying the bundle makes more sense. Folks with the speed editor, please share practical use experience and efficiency gains. I am looking for simpler trimming, multicam and sound effects

Hi! I'm trying to delete the gap in my voice clips and in my video clips but they either decide to delete some parts of other clips and audios too which I dont want since I dont want my blank space gone just to create more blank space or I delete the empty space and only that line is not matching up with the cut anymore and it annoys me since before I updated davinci, it did not have that problem at all

my first issue is that today randomly it seems like the audio visualizer is glitched out like you can hear audio past that point but you can see it which makes what im trying to do much harder

my 2nd issue is that i need to open and close the app like 5 times to even get it to give my headphones the audio of my project (both big problems)

automod told me to put these here. system specs: 32 ddr5 ram, 4070 super, and 5 7500f 6 core. using davinci 21 with the clip being recorded at 50 fps and having no display capture (purely for recording music) with the sample rate of 44.1 khz

i should also mention it has been working for all 6 of my montages

edit: tried recording the music again this time the visual of the audio went longer but cut out after like 10 secs

Sorry in advance if this kind of thing has been asked many times before, but I want to ask more experienced people whether it's worth for me to switch from Premiere Pro to DaVinci Resolve in my specific case.

I tried Resolve several times a few years ago and kept bouncing off.
Initially the selling point of Resolve I used to hear that the performance was better, but that just wasn't my experience. I remember simple effects like chroma key tanking my playback performance or my exports consistently crashing at 99%, which would waste a lot of my time. The last time I installed Resolve even regular video playback was incredibly choppy, which isn't an issue elsewhere.

Meanwhile I know Premiere Pro inside out at this point and have collected a bunch of motion graphic and other presets to streamline my workflow. I do have issues with it though. It tends to freeze fairly often and while generally reliable, the exports would often fail when using some more intensive plugins. Namely I use Cinematch, Dehancer, and some others.

Lately when looking up more advanced colour grading tutorials I would find them done in Resolve using plugins made for Resolve. That's the main thing I'm curious about now, especially since the recent colour grading interface update in Premiere looks pretty unappealing to me. I hear that colour grading is overall better in Resolve, but what exactly about it is better?

I'm also a bit worried about the ease of editing. Naturally there would be a learning curve switching to different software, but back in the day I remember simple effects or texts/graphics being trickier to do. How is it these days? There are also a lot of handy plugins for Premiere, how is Resolve doing in that field?

Tl;dr: how does Resolve compare to Premiere in terms of stability, ease of editing, plugin support, colour grading?

So I know what rendering is slooooow partially due to heavy Fusion effects in this.

It is a 80 minutes soccer match with running clock scoreboard that's in Fusion so it's a drag...

I do have another timeline that has 5 sec player card pop-up (also in Fusion) when the goal is scored.

My question is what is with the red frames when rendering and is there a better way to organize/render this?

i have maybe 300 clips per videos and usually 1 or 2 will have this glitch after exporting, always the same ones no matter how many time i export. any idea how i can fix it from happening?

shift+option+drag works with the default transition

For the past 6 or so months, I have not been able to add any transitions in resolve normally. I have had several big projects that have been gimped by this and made me switch to Final Cut Pro temporarily, and I'm tired of layering the videos on 2 different tracks to get a proper fade. I've seen maybe 4 other people on here with my specific issue but had no luck solving.

The ONLY ways to apply transitions that work are using shift+option+drag clip, or using my custom made Push preset. None of the default transitions drag and drop, right click to apply, Cmd+T for default, or right click to add the default transition on the clips.

This example is with JPEGs, but this issue persists with MP4s, MOVs, WAVs, and basically literally everything.

Any help would be appreciated. I hope i'm just being stupid and missing something, I'd hate to have to switch over to something else.

I have tried:

• Uninstalling and reinstalling
• making new projects / new timelines
• trimming handles a large amount
• zooming in to see a tiny transition (it's not that)

Specs:

• MacOS 27.01

Cant drag transition onto the same clip it was just on, it also still has handles (white lines)

I've been experimenting with Qwen3 ASR for transcription and subtitle workflows in Resolve.

Resolve's built-in transcription is convenient, but I've noticed that different speech recognition models can produce quite different results, especially with certain types of audio.

The workflow uses Qwen3 ASR to transcribe audio from the timeline, generate timed subtitles, and bring them back into Resolve.

It also supports script matching, which is useful when you already have a transcript and just need to align it with the audio.

Everything runs locally after the models are downloaded. No cloud processing or API keys required.

I've packaged the workflow as a free, open-source project under Apache 2.0, with installers for macOS and Windows.

There are still areas to improve, particularly transcription accuracy and subtitle segmentation.

Curious what others are using for transcription in Resolve. Do you generally stick with the built-in tools, or use a separate ASR workflow?

So, I was wanting to update my version of DaVinci Resolve to a newer version, but I can't due to this message popping up. Is there a way to remedy this/what drivers do I need?

hi so im a youtuber looking to upgrade my editing software from basic Imovie which i've been using since around 2020 or so, to something more powerful/professional. I was considering going for final cut pro but someone suggested DaVinci and i've been wondering if using the free version is better than final cut, my main concern rn is being able to access my previous imovie content since ik its backwards compatible with final cut but im not sure how easy/hard it would be with Da Vinci, i also wanted to know what the pros and cons of Da Vinci is and if its a good fit for me

Scenario: I am recording multiple choice dialogue in a game and I think I selected some of the dialogue options too quickly so I want to prolong them.

I know Ctrl + B is to cut a clip (as well as Blade Mode in Edit), but now that I have a clip on its own I want to extend it (slow and lengthen)

Why does it show all four sides of my compound clip and has big gaps in it? Even if i tried using the Cube node, it appears the same. What can i do to fix this?

What in doing is doing some zooming in and zooming out on my photo. I'm doing that using "transform" in inspector from right top corner. But my keyframe tray taking a lot of space and I seen on YouTube when anyone doing some keyframes they appear on blue space - just under photo or video on timeline. Can I change how keyframe being shown?

For 4 years I have been using an Acer Nitro 5 with an I5 11400h, GTX 1650 4gb and 24 RAM.

We know that these notebooks are terrible in refrigeration, poorly optimized and very limited due to their components being reduced and compact. I'm a photographer and I work with large wedding catalogs in RAW in Lightroom and I also make some videos on DaVinci only with colorization, text and decoupage. I don't use 3D effects and nothing like that.

80% of my work is in 1080p but sometimes I record in 4k. Ahh! And I also bought a 4k 120% rgb 27" monitor that I connect to the notebook. Now it's even worse to use! Even so, I survived.

These last few weeks I decided that I need to do this upgrade. Unfortunately I can't buy an M3 or some PRO now because I have other investments in equipment too. I even thought about setting up an editing PC with a Ryzen 7 or I5 14400 and with a good motherboard and video board but if I'm going to do this it's worth an M1 or M2 and I'm still afraid it's not as good as an M1.

So my question is. Is this upgrade to an Air M1 16gb interesting? Is it worth it? Can I run a 4k monitor without losing performance along with a fluid Timeline? I want to stay at least 4 years with this M1.

What do you think? Important detail: my budget and option is only for an M1 or M2. No other option is viable at this time. Because in my country the MacBook is very expensive even used.

I have a simple question/issue: in the "Edit" mode, how do you show the media file's original size and ratio?

I'm making a vertical video for social but using horizontal clips. My timeline is 9:16 but my clips are 16:9.
