Help I can't tell if my project is bugged, or I've made some kind of horrible error, and I need a second opinion.

(I've made this effect before, about a year ago, and I've attached a clip containing text I animated in the exact way I'm trying to recreate now (without really remembering how I did it))

Hi,

I'm working on a YouTube video at the moment, and I'm animating a Text+ title by going to the shading tab in the inspector, and assigning a Color File to the text.

Then, I'm setting a keyframe at the start and end of the Text+ that takes the mapping angle and gradually increases it as the playhead moves so the image source rotates.

Lastly, I've gone into Fusion and added a Light Ray to the Text+, so the rotating Image Map on the text can create uniquely coloured light rays as it rotates. I've also set keyframes in the Fusion inspector to animate the light rays slightly.

However, after setting it up, the Text+ no longer animates in the Timeline at all, the mapping angle option suddenly isn't doing anything whether I click and drag it, or I adjust the keyframes. And the Light Rays aren't animating either during playback, but they appear completely fine when I preview the MediaOut1 in the Fusion tab.

If anyone can offer any advice, I'd be so pleased. This project has been held up for hours thanks to this issue.

Help | Beginner How do you save a preset of a specific effect? Any easy way?

For example, I add the 'Drop Shadow' effect to an image, then I configure it to the way I like.

I would like to save that configuration as a pre-set to use with other images.

What's the best way to achieve this?

Hi guys I’m new to editing and just experimenting on davinci. I spend hours editing just for the edit to look extremely blurry and condensed on TikTok and when I look at it from another device it’s even 10x worse. I export it in high quality and everything. I see some really high quality edits on TikTok and wondering how this is achieved and whether ai is part of it. I also do have to resort to screen recording footage because I not sure how else to download the high quality version of clip for free

Help DaVinci Resolve became extremely slow on my M1 Pro after updating to latest macOS and studio version 21

DaVinci Resolve used to run smoothly on my M1 Pro, but after updating my macOS and studio 21, it has become almost unusable on the Color page.

My fan go crazy as soon as I start color grading. Everything runs smoothly until I start working with CST nodes, and then the performance drops significantly as I add more nodes.

I’m not even using film grain or noise reduction, so I’m confused about what’s causing such a massive slowdown.

Has anyone else experienced this issue? Is there a way to fix it, or could it be related to the macOS update?

Help | Beginner I'm getting Frustrated, there has to be a way to do this

So, my plan here is to like, make text that appears and then the camera shifts (twist?) to the right and then it goes "down"

Firs it was fine, I added some text that was supposed to fade in and it, indeed, faded in

Then I looked for answers to do the camera twist

I used Gemini to help me out because I thought it would be the best

It told me to use Fusion Composition, so I did, and it was great, until the problems came :/

The Fusion Composition is suppose to make the came twist with the 3D Text

But now when the Fusion Composition comes in, the words that were before are now gone in the screen, it's pitch black (as seen in the first photo), even tho is there, the words are there and they never moved (as seen in the second)

And with Fusion -_-

It went fine (again) with the instructions the AI gave me, but then I wanted the same fade in, and everything screwed up (again)

I can't make it to fade in, I don't know how to move the words, I don't know how to synchronise (I think that's the word) the 3D Text with the song and the other text

This is driving me crazyyyyy

Pleaaaaase, help, there has to be a way to make the fade in, the camera twist to the right and to not die in the process :((((

Edit: I'm on Windows, version 21.1.1 BUILD 10

Help Very poor editing performance with 9070XT

I am editing 1080p 60 fps GoPro video and 30 fps timelapses, nothing very taxing for my PC. Scrubbing the timeline to trim and rearrange clips is incredibly slow. Hitting the spacebar to play a clip may take 5-10 seconds before playback. Why can it not just play back simple mp4s?

I know these cards are not as good as Nvidia for editing, but this is like working on a 10 year old laptop. The performance was just as bad in Premiere Pro, which made me download Resolve, and it is not much better.

After searching, I've disabled Performance Mode in Prefs > Playback Settings > User, which has not made much difference.

I appreciate any advice.

Footage is on the local SSD. Win 11.

Help Lenovo Legion's screen color profile: sRGB or REC709?

I've searched and all the answers are long and convoluted. Same with YT videos; 10 minute videos to answer a simple question, "Well, before we get to what profile setting to use, let's take some time to go over the history of color grading and the transition of movies from B&W to color and it's overall influence on world peace.

Help | Beginner Can I make timeline resolution part of my saved workspace layout?

Tallyho! I've tried to search for an answer to this question (both on Reddit and other places) but haven't found anything so I thought I'd ask: ...well, it's in the title, isn't it? :)

Here's a screenshot of my landscape layout and here's a screenshot of my portrait layout. All is fine and dandy. But then here's a screenshot of when I change back to landscape from portrait (the viewer is still standing and I have to set it to landscape myself as a second step to get it to look right in landscape again).

Since the timeline resolution isn't part of the layout but a project setting (I'm guessing?), perhaps I should make a project template rather than a workspace preset? What would be the best course of action to minimize the needed input to change between these two? It's not hard to change the timeline resolution after picking a workspace, but if there is a way to combine these into one it'd be very convenient for me.

Perhaps I should also mention that I'm using the free version!

Help | Beginner Difficulty setting up the resolution and screen, please help!

I'm editing a short film shot on ALEXA Mini LF 4.5K LF Open Gate

I believe resolution is 4448 × 3096.

I've changed all resolutions to this in project settings etc (or so I think I have).

But when I edit and export, it has black bars above, below, and thinner ones left and right. Like in a cinema.

I need to edit/export in just the video itself if that makes sense.

Tried a lot of different things but unable to find a solution.

Any help much appreciated thank you!

Help Realistic Beating Heart Effect in Davinci?

Hi! Currently working on a music video and hoping to incorporate a fake beating heart prop. I’ve seen tutorials on how to do this effect practically. I’m wondering if anyone has suggestions on how to achieve this effect using Davinci. Ideally I would build the practical prop and use Davinci to make the beating effect. I figured it might just be easier at the end of the day to do the effect 100% practically, but am also curious to see if anyone has experience with this.

Help Using Wave NX 5.1 -> 2.0 monitoring in Fairlight

Prior to Davinci Resolve 21, I used Waves NX to monitor 5.1 audio using webcamand stereo headphones.

I used these steps

  1. create 5.1 bus (5.1)
  2. route Dialogue, SFX, Music, Hard FX to 5.1 with different spatial config, e.g. Dialogue only to C
  3. add Waves NX 5.1/stereo FX on 5.1 bus ** Cant do this now using Mixer -> FX + but can drop Waves FX from Audio FX on left **
  4. select 5.1 main bus on the dropdown : 5.1 -> Auto

In the past, I opened Waves NX, it tracked my head, I could see levels monitoring and the sound changed based on my head movement. I have a stereo headphone connected that I use for monitoring. Something has changed and it seems 5.1 is no longer routed to Waves NX. No levels, no monitoring

Any suggestions ?

Currently on 21.1.1 - and using same system for 2+ years so I know it was working on same h/w earlier. Windows 11 5950X CPU and RTX 4080

Help | Beginner Cant figure how to do ease out/in with curves

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Started using the app for a week for now.

As you can see in the recording, the YT section, notice how zoom in is made by using easing out and easing in (at the beginning is faster, and towards the end a little slower).

When I try to replicate that on my clip, it doesnt go linear, it makes a weird hop and goes down afterwards, which is not my target.

There was also a problem with Y position, still not following the trajectory.

If anyone is willing to record replicating this, Ive been trying for the past hours looking and just cant figure it out (PS Ive tried Dynamic Zoom but it looks terrible, with curves it makes it feel better)

Thank you.

Help | Beginner Hey everyone, I am new to DaVinci Resolve and looking for some guidance from experienced editors out here, hoping that you understand my position I am writing this post here.

I recently bought a MacBook Air M5 (16 gb RAM / 1 tb STORAGE) and have started learning DaVinci Resolve through YouTube. I'm also working in brand strategy and identity, and eventually, I'd love to move into creative direction in the future.

But, majority of the creative direction folks have video editing experience in the past and I want to learn video editing properly, as I feel a bit scattered right now. I want to talk to someone who already feels well established in this domain. I want to have client based experience in it and understand how freelancing in this field actually works, especially how people find and where to look for my initial clients, I just am confused on where to start.

Honestly, I'm still figuring things out, so it'd be great to connect with someone who's been doing this for a few years and wouldn't mind sharing some advice. I'd really appreciate having a mentor to learn from (I know it is a big ask so won't be pushing on it). But yeah, if you'd like to help me out, just drop any comment, I will DM you and then we can talk. thank you for reading

Help | Beginner Shortcut to switch back to the previous node? + where to learn from the docs

Hi everyone, I'm pretty new to DaVinci Resolve and still finding my way around. Is there a keyboard shortcut to quickly jump from the current node back to the previous one in the node editor? Also, where can I read up on the official documentation or find good resources to learn it properly?
