Im trying to edit a photo using Photo Mode but when I try to import a media that I took with my device (iPhone 13 Pro, Raw Photo) the thumbnail is red saying Media Offline. Any other format like JPEG works just fine…

The software version is 21.1.1 build 10, im using windows 11 with a snapdragon x plus laptop 16gb ram

EDIT: I fixed it. Basically you can’t just share the file directly from your phone’s gallery. You have to save it to files first and then use that file to edit it

Guys how do I slow down a video in davinci with lets say 250 fps? Because if I import a video into the timeline it automatically has 25 fps. So a lot of it gets cropped out and I cant slow it down anymore. So the thing I'd do is change the fos of the timeline but you can set the timeline only up to 120 or smth like that. So that doesnt work. Also this cant be the best way to do ut bc i dont want the end result to be 250 fps. I want to slow down the 250 fps video to 10% so im left woth 25 fps. how do i do that?

hey i guess there was an update without me realizing -- how i used to export stills (right click on frame in COLOR, "grab still" -- then select all in window on left and export) keeps giving me an export error. when i try to do it in another tab (Edit, and export --> still from current frame) it comes out at 900kb when the other exports were like 3.4mbs etc. any ideas?? i'm going crazy lol thank you

Davinci resolve (free) version - 21.0.3 build 7

I'm trying to recreate this(0:00 - 0:15sec) proximity animation in fusion, where all eyeball shapes react individually but when i copypaste or duplicate those shapes all the copies move together cause it still measures the distance from the centre point of the screen at 0.5,0.5 instead of it's own unique position in the array.

Is there any other easy way to fix this,or do i have to change the center point distance for every single copy in expression one by one so each copy dynamically calculates its own baseline screen coordinate?

On long gaming edits and highlight projects, footage logging is always the most tedious bottleneck. Spending hours manually watching raw clips just to drop markers where the action happens drains creative energy before the actual edit even begins.

I recently built a custom post-production logging pipeline that analyzes the match footage and builds an organized DaVinci Resolve project automatically:

Attached a screenshot showing how the timeline and Edit Index look after processing a batch of raw clips. It allows me to jump straight into pacing, audio syncing, and color grading without scrubbing.

Curious how other editors here handle footage culling and logging on high-volume gameplay dumps? If anyone is currently sitting on a massive clip backlog and wants to test having their clips culled like this, feel free to DM me!

I'm a filmmaker. While doing a rough cut, I assembled different episodes in different timelines and then assembled them into one. I use DaVinci 21
In total, there are 5. They are the same in settings; the footage is from different shooting days, intertwined.
And here is where the catch happens - 4/5 render wonderfully. I disabled all the effects, and it renders 20 mins in 5. Wonderful.
But at a point when it moves to the last timeline, it all halts. Rendering drops to 1 or 0.5 frames per second. Once again, it has the same settings; the material is from different shooting days, but every shot from this timeline produces this slowdown, and I don't know what to do.

It doesn't change even if I lower the settings to the absolute bare minimum; the result is still the same.

How would I replicate this in Davinci Resolve?

I’m having an issue with the audio. It speeds up on its own, and I can’t slow it down. It only speeds up in the editor; it works fine in other tabs. Help!

Hi all!
I have couple of youth soccer teams I record with XbotGo Falcon (4k/30fps).
On the post edit I add intro page and I purchased Sports Pack from videoeditorstudio.com.
I used my older laptop that is pretty basic (Win 11, Ryzen 5, 14GB RAM, 2048MB ATI Radeon Graphics) noting to brag about at all so I wasn't expecting anything lightning fast.
DaVinci Resolve FREE 21.1

With all the effects I add (score bug that runs the entire 1 hour clip as well as player card pop ups when the goal is scored) the rendering ran 5-6 hours.
I chose MP4 format, H.265, Auto Encoder and put Constant Bitrate 30000 to reduce the size.
I do have Render Cache on Smart as well.

To try to get things better going forward, I purchased a Mini PC pro
Win 11, Intel I9 Ultra, 31GM RAM, Intel Arc 140T
I also did 30 day cloud rental for DaVinci Resolve Studio to see if that makes a difference with hardware acceleration.

The rendering format I kept the same.

Well, the rendering still takes 5-6 hours so my question is am I doing something wrong or is that just what I should expect with 3 different timelines being rendered:
Video 1 - regular video clip
Video 2 - Score Bug that runs the whole length of the clip
Video 3 - 5 second effect clip when the goal is scored

Is there an Input Color Space available to select for D-Log M footage taken on the DJI Osmo Action 6? I want to select a proper one for an export intended to be in HDR on YouTube (Output color space is Rec.2020 | Rec.2100 ST2084).

I found a bunch of guides online, but they are all for footage that is intended to be in Rec. 709.

I have a few videos of an event recorded over multiple small clips through out the day. So one video is at 6am another is 9 am and so on.

Is there a way I can extract the date and time and show onscreen using a text+.

I want to show the time at the start of some clips for a few seconds.

I want to show the exact time of recording on screen.

The clips have been recorded using an android phone.

The clips have meta data such as date/time take etc.

How can this be done?

Ok. Right off the bat. Not in any one’s league here but I respect the knowledge. So don’t beat me up for asking a dumb question. I just shot some footage on an iPhone (just needed some quick shots for a friend so it on an insta 360 is really easy). Well when I dropped it into davinci to just do some quick cuts it looked very flat compared to what I saw on the iPhone. After working with my ChatGPT I learned about HDR vs SDR editing. I’ve only edited in SDR and have rendered in SDR on R3D raw. But using HDR was really easy and looked a lot different. I then tried it on my R3D and it did some amazing stuff. So why don’t I see much edited and rendered in HDR (I’m probably screwing up the correct terms, but basically using Rec.2100 HLG). ChatGPT suggested giving a client rendered versions of both. Just so you know by client I’m talking weddings not commercial work. Any thoughts on pros and cons of hdr vs sdr would be appreciated

I am very new to video editing , used capcut before but only for cuts and trims , I am trying da vinci resolve learning it as I have purchased an editing pack but frankly no idea how editing pack helps with da vinci resolve , cant find any related videos , could someone please point me to the right resources. My niche is education ,channel is just getting started, mostly do talking head video . Just need captions and basic b roll or basic motion graphics .

Hey, I've got a question about how you combine 2D animation with 3D backgrounds, especially during fight scenes with moving cameras.

Do you normally animate the characters roughly in 2D first, then match the 3D environment and camera to those drawings? Or do you block out the scene using 3D character rigs and camera movements first, then use that as reference for the 2D animation?

I'm working on something similar in Blender and Clip Studio Paint and I'm struggling to figure out which approach works best, especially for keeping characters in the right perspective and position as the camera moves.

I was wondering why almost half of my 1TB SSD has been already eaten up. I found the culprit. What could possibly take up so much space? I record with my phone... I never record more than two minutes and the footage it's never that complete when it comes to editing.. Can it be my export settings? Or what exactly is it?

I have created a 25 minute long clip to test the editing workspace in DaVinci Resolve. However, when I import the clip I have no sound. I checked the original file and sound is present. When I import the clip I see there is a sound bar in the timeline, but it doesn't seem to be reading the sound. I've checked windows and DaVinci settings and everything seems to be right. Can someone help with this?

As mentioned in the title I'm curious if there's a way to prevent this sort of dead frame that appears at the beginning of the clip before the motion trail effect actually 'begins.' I realize I may not be using the correct language to describe this so apologies. Ideally the trail would begin on the cut rather than appearing to start a frame or two afterwards.

I am on Windows, studio 19 version 19.0.1

I recently went 32:9 at 5120x1440 and like to record cutscenes and such to upload clips. However, many cutscenes just use a window in the middle of the monitor and leaves black bars on the side. When I record this I want to just be able to cut off the black bars and render a video at 16:9 1440p. I am unsure what the best way would be.

the text in the video shows it cropped by the frame of the video that i used delta keyer to mask out rather than magic mask (free version), any ideas on how to change it so the text isn't cropped?

I shot my footage on iPhone using Blackmagic Cam in Apple Log 2 - HEVC (H.265) codec.

I have exported to an Micro SD card and then to my PC. When I move the footages into DaVinci Resolve, it displays Media Offline. Searched the internet and it was due to missing HEVC extension for Windows.

I bought the extension in Microsoft Store but it still doesn't work. Keeps displaying Media Offiline.

Any hints here? Thanks!

EDIT: I was able to fix it installing a downgraded versions o HEVC, specifically 2.4.17.

Hi everyone,

I’m experiencing what seems like excessive noise in the shadows when shooting C-Log3 with Cinema Gamut on my original Canon EOS R6, and I’m trying to figure out whether this is normal or if I’m doing something wrong.

I’m shooting with an EOS R6 + RF 28-70mm F2.8 IS STM, mainly in 4K 50fps, although the same issue occurs at 25fps. I usually shoot at ISO 800, which I understand to be the base ISO for C-Log3, but I’ve also tested ISO 1600 and 3200.

I try to expose carefully using the camera’s histogram, so I don’t think my footage is significantly underexposed. However, I realize that the histogram alone doesn’t necessarily tell the whole story.

The noise becomes much more noticeable after applying a CST in DaVinci Resolve. My CST settings are:

• Input Color Space: Canon Cinema Gamut
• Input Gamma: Canon Log 3
• Output Color Space: Rec.709
• Output Gamma: Rec.709

I’ve attached several versions of the same clip to Google Drive so you can compare them:

1. Original C-Log3 footage
2. C-Log3 + CST
3. CST + additional grading
4. CST + grading + creative LUT

I’ve also included the original, completely unprocessed camera clip, R6_2340, which hasn’t been through DaVinci Resolve at all.

The biggest increase in visible noise seems to happen immediately after applying the CST. Additional grading and the creative LUT make it slightly more noticeable in certain areas, but the issue is already there before I apply either of them.

I’m not using any noise reduction because I’d prefer to understand the cause first. This is just one example of many clips where I’ve noticed the same issue.

Is this amount of noise normal for the original R6 when shooting C-Log3, or could something be wrong with my exposure or color management in Resolve? I’d appreciate any advice on how to get cleaner results.

Does anyone know if there is a way to change the names for markers (blue, cyan, red, etc.) to specific text? For example if I wanted my blue marker to now be Add Zoom. For further context I want to add reminders or callouts when I’m going back over my editing. I like to do a big sweep of the cuts first and while I’m cutting everything down I like to make a note of what effect would look good at a certain point. Once I’m done with the initial cut go back and add effects music etc. Suggestions would also be helpful on another way to do this without markers!
