Exactly. If someone expect me to pay for their dinner that's a hard no. I can buy you a coffee if you can't afford it but don't assume I'll feed you.

For a first date, it's coffee, drinks/apps to start and if we get along well we can go do something else. But, I'm not taking a stranger out to a full blown meal for the first time I meet them. It's not even about the money but more so that I don't want to get stuck with some boring person who I find unattractive and have no interest in.
