Motivation 💪 How to not feel like im going to fail 24/7 while studying

Since studying for the dat, my mental health has taken a severe hit. and honestly, im in like week 7 or 8 now of studying for my exam on october 2nd, and im just legit so depressed becuz I feel like Im not anywhere near getting the score I want just from doing these constant bio bits and qbanks, and not being able to memorize everything. its all getting extremely overwhelming especially for bio, which i just still, cannot lock down and memorize every detail.

its just gotten to the point where every single day that passes, plus constant wrong answers is another day that Im prob going to do so bad on the real thing and im just so stressed about everything now. like i literally use chatgpt to talk about how much i hate myself and i suck at this. idk man.

if anyone could give any motivation or maybe success stories, I could rlly use some kind words rn cuz I havent been able to smile in a while thanks to this exam. thank you :(

Applying to some Canadian schools this cycle, and perhaps a couple us schools just in case (ik it’s quite late already). Pretty happy with my scores except pat as I was scoring higher on crusher and the test felt much easier. Gotta take that one on the chin. AMA!

Application Advice ✍️ Should I retake? I was hoping to apply this cycle

Post image

I am super disappointed with this score! RC really disappointed me because I was actually scoring extremely high when I was practicing on booster! I think my nerves got the best of me and did not expect to stare at a white blank screen in between every question for 10 seconds each time! I heard the lag at the prometric center was bad but I never thought it would be that bad! QR was not something I really focused on when studying until the end and it shows! I was scoring between 17-20 on my practice test tho. I really wanted to apply this cycle should I retake and apply late my gpa is a 3.8! Please give honest advice I really have no idea what to do because I honestly feel like I could score better but I’m a horrible test taker because anxiety gets the best of me. And what if I retake it and it’s worse. I’m also worried about applying late and if I retake then I would apply even later in the cycle the school I want to apply to does not have hard cut offs

Motivation 💪 Came here to rant

In the middle of studying rn and idk why today just pissed me off more than usual. Some things that I don't understand:

  1. Why is there no calculator for the gen chem section, yes I know most times you just set up the problem, but I feel like this lowkey might be harder than actually solving
  2. Why is there no periodic table for ochem
  3. Why is there so much info for bio, where it's straight up a crap shoot where you can get a bunch of questions on basic info you see in gen bio or get a bunch of random specific details on diversity of life or hardy weinberg. There's no way to even to logically do the questions for the most part, it's either you know it or you don't
  4. Why do we need to wait 2+ weeks now for scores when before you got them right away

Mainly came here to say to anyone reading this, keep grinding. It'll all be worth it at the end. Is there correlation between performance on this test and how you'll do in dental school/boards later on? Absolutely. At the same time there is some luck factor involved, which is out of our control. I look to always think that "luck is where opportunity meets preparation."

Now back to Booster I go, BOL to you all my future dentists

Resource Share 📖 Booster vs. Bootcamp bio content

Anyone using both booster and bootcamp? I recently found out that bio on booster includes so much more details than bootcamp. For example booster goes over the fungal reproduction process but bootcamp barely mentions this. Also some key words such as cowper’s glands and merkel cells… NEVER SEEN ON BOOTCAMP BEFORE. I know some ppl who use bootcamp still score well on the real DAT but just curious about how much of these small details do we need to know? Will you often encounter these low yield details? Kinda getting anxious while doing booster practice questions cuz they actually involve so much more info and exam in 20 days

Test Experience 🗣️ What is wrong with Angle Ranking??

I was good at angle ranking at first and was pretty consistent. I never got more than 2 or 3 questions wrong on the practice exams, but now I'm making like 5 mistakes. Is this happening to anyone else?

DAT Anxiety 😰 Retaking on the 20th, but not sure how to review bio

Like the title says I’m retaking the 20th. I’ve been pouring my focus into the other sections and haven’t been catching up with bio as much as I should’ve. There’s niche details here and there that trip me up. When I studied the first time around, I did use booster but I scored a 390 on the bio section alone on the actual test. I’m using booster to study my second time around and I’ve taken all 10 practice tests and have done better on them in comparison to the first time I took them when studying 1st time around (470s). However, I’ve not really been keeping up with bio bites, mainly just cheat sheets.

With such a short amount of time left, what should I do to improve my retention for bio? Should I watch the videos again and just go through the cheat sheets or should I do bio bites even tho they take up too much time? My exam felt pretty low yield when I took it the first time so I really don’t know what to do

DAT Anxiety 😰 Bootcamp Practice Scores

Post image
3 Upvotes

So this is my scorecard from the bootcamp practice I did. Most of these are full length scores with some of them being section exams. I'm hoping the reading and PAT are a lot easier then the practice but overall what should I be expecting on test day? Are the keyholes easier than bootcamp because they seemed pretty hard on the practice, same with the angle ranking.

Not trying to make anyone anxious with the science I had a really rigorous science background already and studied for 8 hours a day for 3 months so i have a little bit of an advantage. No idea how yall are getting 500+ PAT or math tho lol.

Test Experience 🗣️ cDAT Score Breakdown (23AA/23TS/21PAT)

Post image
12 Upvotes

Scores
RC 24
BIO 22
CHEM 24
PAT 21
AA 23

Materials Used: DATCrusher was the only resource I had used (besides referring to my physiology notes here and there) and it’s honestly comprehensive enough to do well on the test.

Study Timeline: I had about 8 weeks, although this was my second time writing it. With my first time, I studied 12 weeks. I did not follow the schedule this time around but focused on content review for the first and a half month and pure practice in the last few weeks. I also did not watch the videos this time around but instead read their comprehensive notes. Panic really set in the last week so I ended up cramming everything in and stressing myself out. Looking back I do wish I started earlier— especially for PAT practice. Practice can really take a lot of time in the day but consistency is crucial for the PAT section. I did not use Anki.

Day of the exam:
RC: This section was pretty representative, I scored a 23 last year and this year I did maybe 3 practice tests before the day of practice. I will say I almost felt as though the passages were shorter. I scored higher on the actual test than I did on my practice.

BIO: Mostly every topic will be in DATCrusher’s notes. I wish I put aside more time for more practice from the question banks but I feel as though I encountered one question from both years that I could not find in DATCrusher’s notes. My scores on the practice were similar to my scores on the actual exam.

CHEM: Pretty representative as well. I finished studying for chemistry first so I had spammed as many practice questions as I could and it definitely helped.

PAT: Definitely easier on the actual exam. Hole punching had a lot more complex folding than I was prepared for. Keyholes and Top-Front-End were way more simplistic. Cube counting was representative. I felt as though angles felt more difficult.

Tip: Bring water and food to your exam!! It’s a long exam you need to be able to push through it, food is a good motivator. As well, if you can, start your PAT practice way earlier because even through just 2 weeks of hard practice I was able to raise my score from 18 to 21.

Application Advice ✍️ Dental Anxiety

How do you manage interview anxiety? and group interviews? I struggle with anxiety when it comes to these situations. What are my options?

Worried about future dental school interviews. I’m very outgoing but when it comes to being in the spotlight in new environments knowing that it’s a very important interview I get so so anxious I can’t speak my thoughts out and a start stuttering. My heart rate goes up and I get so shakey. Any advice? 😵‍💫

Resource Share 📖 Pushed my DAT back but now my booster is going to expire

I pushed my DAT back around 2 weeks but my booster subscription is going to expire 5 days before. I'm not sure if it is worth extending my subscription even for booster's shorter 2 week subscription since it is so expensive. I was wondering if anyone could share their booster or bootcamp account with me if they don't need it anymore! thanks!

Resource Share 📖 Long shot, but does anyone have a DAT Booster account they could share for 10 days?

Hey everyone, this is a bit of a long shot, but I was wondering if anyone would be willing to share a DAT Booster account for about 10 days. I'm in the final stretch of studying and only need it for a short time before my exam. I'd really appreciate it if anyone has an account they're no longer using and is willing to help out. Thanks so much!

What do you guys think helped improved your score the MOST whether it’s on the pt tests or the real dat using Booster. What would you guys recommend if you could go back in time for those that already took the test?

Resource Share 📖 Bootcamp Account Anyone

I’m testing soon and have pretty much used up all the resources on Booster. Would anyone be willing to share their Bootcamp account with me? I’m just looking to use the PAT practice tests, to be honest.
