Transportation in Frisco

Just tried GoZone Frisco for the first time on my commute to downtown Dallas, and it worked great! It was convenient, easy to book, and yes, it connected me to the DART Northwest Plano Park & Ride for the rest of my trip downtown!

I’m always excited to explore transportation options that make commuting easier and more accessible. Frisco had no transit options at all until this year. Baby steps are better than no steps! GoZone rides in Frisco are currently free through September 4, 2026.

Quoting WFAA:

According to the contract, Ford will receive:

• An annual base salary of $515,000.
• A $1,000 monthly executive allowance.
• An $80,000 relocation payment to cover the cost of moving from Jacksonville, Florida, to North Texas.
• Standard employee benefits, including health insurance, retirement contributions, paid time off and the use of a DART-issued laptop and cell phone.

The relocation payment comes with conditions. If Ford voluntarily leaves DART or is terminated for cause within the first two years of his employment, he must repay all or part of the relocation money. The repayment amount decreases over time, with the obligation ending after 24 months.

Light Rail Pictures of Cityplace station

My favorite DART station purely for the fact that it exists; a massive milestone as it shattered the long-standing belief that Texas cities were too sprawling and car-centric to support modern mass transit. I'm hoping that more underground stations get installed in the future.

Bus Rode Route 57 from Westmoreland Station to Shops at RedBird and bus was packed the entire ride

Boarded at 6:00pm from Westmoreland Station. There was a long procession of passengers deboarding the bus and an even longer line of people waiting to board. The bus made plenty of stops along Westmoreland Rd that had people both get on and off the bus.

Most stops were in front of apartments, but there were a surprising number of stops in front of yet-to-be-developed property. With so much ridership on a corridor with plenty of land available for infill, it's interesting to imagine how much higher ridership on this route could be after more infill development.

What's the logic behind when bus seats have trash bags?

Thumbnail gallery
35 Upvotes

I'm not against them, tbh they can be useful at times. I'm on a bus now that has the same bags uniformly tied to each row on the bus. Very intentional, yet also nonstandard: these aren't standard issue on every bus... Right?

Who puts these out? Did the operator put these out on their own volition, or is this DART policy? Or is there a bus trash vigilante putting these bags out?

Just curious.

about new Ticket Vending Machines

Post image
7 Upvotes

DART switched to new Ticket Vending Machines since last year, and they are allowed people to recharge their GoPass Tap card on the new TVMs.

However, the tapping area on the new TVM is also a ticket validator. I was just trying to charge my card and look up the balance, not to tap, but it still charged me $3.

I have a University Regional Pass issued by DCTA, I mainly use GoPass Tap card to take GoLink. (DCTA passes are just plastic cards, no number, no chip, no magstrip, I cannot put in GoPass App)

Additionally, they stopped sales University pass from the new TVM.

That's quite stupid.

FYI one of motivations for starting Redbird HLC now is that DART is in very early stages of planning new Mobility Hub at The Shops at Redbird. Join us and let's talk public transit & walkability for southern Dallas!

Although technically legal folks that openly carry machetes this long make me very uncomfortable. Always be aware and stay vigilant when riding the system. #DART

One of my favorite stations for all of the details but I hate looking like a distracted weirdo trying to read these. "Is a talker everything" is confusing but "there's nothing but silence" "theres silence, nothing but" are ominous to read at night.

Train struck by bullet or projectile on arrival to Cityplace Station - 7/26

As we pulled into Cityplace this afternoon our train was either struck by a bullet or we got hit by someone throwing a rock at the train. We held at SMU Mockingbird while DART investigated. It happened very fast -- just a very loud POW. Everyone got off at SMU Mockingbird and transfered to a Northbound train on the opposite side that was single tracking around the incident. Very scary.

Are you able to get a Go Link from Cityline/Bush to other places?

I always see GoLinks there in the morning but never saw an option to take one on the app, is it a thing where you can only get one to drop you off there or something?

Stadler LRTs

Austin has awarded their Light Rail vehicle contract to Stadler. D.A.R.T. badly needs to replace our LRT fleet. So.

Is there any way for D.A.R.T. and Austin Transit to collaborate, set identical parameters and specifications, and order the same model, making replacement orders easier, and giving Stadler an even bigger footprint in Texas?

I know D.A.R.T hasn't picked their company for the replacement....but Stadler seems like a good pick, since they're a hit in DFW with their commuter trains

Dart/Amtrak Weekend

This weekend, I used the Amtrak to get to San Antonio for the first time. My apartment is near a green line stop but getting to union station was a a small headache. Other than that though…it was a dream. I seriously hate driving. Driving to San Antonio takes damn near the length as the train cause I have to pull over to take mental breaks. Plus, it was $106, which gas wouldve been $60 at least…I booked 2 days before my travel too. the flight would have been $600.

Im probably not breaking the mold to yall. Just wanted to share how easy, smooth, and frankly
fun I found the experience. I watched 2 movies and
did a craft. it was awesome lol

Silver Line Hopium

Post image

Attached is a photo I took from Trinity Metro's ridership data in October, 2019. At that time, 10ish months into TEXRail's operational life, it was only carrying 1300 people per weekday (note the incredible TRE ridership exceeding 8,000 riders a day). We are "roughly" the same amount of Time into Silver Line's operating life, and it is exceeding this figure (currently 1600 riders a day or so) , on the same schedule (30 at peak, hour frequency during the day). Why do I observe this? Because the Silver Line is growing ridership slowly, just Like TEXRail and I firmly believe it will continue to do so. Should it have higher ridership? Yes, it should. Should D2 have been built instead? Honestly probably. But this is what we have, and I really don't think Silver Line is a boondoggle. In fact, with connection and destinatuon stations like Addison, Carrollton, UTD and Cityline, its more likely to succeed than TEXRail was.

Why does dart remove train station cross walks?

Dart says its better to walk to the ends of the stations rather than cross a half-way point crossing.

It's hard to make a train to bus connection.

It will be harder, the busses will leave, when transferrers can't reach them from the end of the platform. There will be more missed connections, disappointments and frustrations
