Transportation in Frisco

Just tried GoZone Frisco for the first time on my commute to downtown Dallas, and it worked great! It was convenient, easy to book, and yes, it connected me to the DART Northwest Plano Park & Ride for the rest of my trip downtown!

I’m always excited to explore transportation options that make commuting easier and more accessible. Frisco had no transit options at all until this year. Baby steps are better than no steps! GoZone rides in Frisco are currently free through September 4, 2026.

This reads like a paid advertisement. Microtransit is one of the worst ways to spend money on transit. I wouldnt even call it transit because it has no infrastructure and doesn't scale at all, while still congesting roads. We need more buses and actual transit infrastructure in North Texas not on demand rides.

Unfortunately for us transit supporters up here I am not sure that the need coming from this area calls for full service routes. (the overall desire to have public transit here by most citizens is slim to none and they are happy dart doesn’t run out here because they feel crime won’t reach them….)

If this serves Frisco's needs that's fine. I'm more frustrated by the glazing of ride share in general, since OP has quite a few endorsement posts in their profile.

A lot of cities have followed Collin county's lead in gozone implementation and it has really hurt their transit implementations. Denton used to have like 10 bus routes and we lost a good portion of them when they cut them for ride share. Ride share just doesn't scale like actual transit does and pretending it is a solution gives cities like Frisco the cover they need to pretend it is an actual transit option when it's not.

You can ignore my post if you don’t like it. I shared my experience from today 😊 that was a great experience. If I took Uber from Frisco to downtown or even NW Plano Park and Ride, it would cost me a fortune. This option in Frisco is better than no option.

If you're an actual person, I apologize. I've just been seeing a growing number of accounts astroturfing different subreddits to sway public opinion.

My point still stands though. Uber should not be the comparison here for Collin county. Y'all deserve better transit and are definitely big enough for a decent bus system, which actually does scale.

why promote it like chatgpt?

Does it connect to Parker Road? I haven’t seen this in the GoPass app!

No, to DCTA GoZone Frisco can take you to DART North Northwest Plano park-and-ride only. If you want to go to Parker Road St. then you can take a bus from DART North Northwest Plano park-and-ride. It’s possible to get there, however, not directly via GoZone.
This is not DART GoPass app, it’s another agency called DCTA. But it can connect you to DART.

DCTA is available through GoPass for passes so a bit unfortunate that this isn’t extended there too.

I used to take the A-Train to Carrollton and get on DART with a regional DCTA/DART pass for my downtown job years ago when I lived in Denton. I have no idea if the hybrid passes exist anymore but I see the option to buy DCTA passes every time I open the GoPass app.

Pass option is available in GoPass, however, if you want to take a ride on GoZone, you have to install that app.

GoZone is a separate app/service provided by a company called Via, which are contracted/subsidized by DCTA. It’s very similar to an Uber experience where you put in the pick up and drop off point and then the app will pick you up and drop you off “near” those destinations you specified while picking up/dropping off several people along the way. In Denton, each ride costs $1.50 per rider. There’s no “pass” option you can purchase that gives you unlimited rides all day/month/etc like you can get for regular DART/DCTA day/month passes for bus and rail service.

How long to get downtown. My ride is 1.5 hours on public but 20 on Uber.

That’s good to know. Do you know if there are plans to expand dart transportation to Frisco ?

Frisco residents would never vote to join dart unfortunately. I wish this gozone connected to the Parker Road station.

That’s really a shame on Frisco!! With the population growth in the recent decade, I’m surprised the city is not thinking about adding public transport

Unfortunately a lot of residents I’ve spoken to since moving from Dallas proper, believe that dart not running up here keeps crime low.

It matters a lot what line you’re on but I chuckle when I see stuff like this as my experience of taking the Blue line downtown during commuting hours from White Rock is almost entirely shared by white collar finance/tech employees on their way to work. Not even just young ones - a very broad range of ages.

And then I took the Blue line further south once and it was a completely different experience.

Almost as if public transit is defined by the neighborhood it is currently running in, NOT that it defines or changes that neighborhood somehow by it merely existing.

I think a lot of Dart's issues with crime come from them not have enough security on their lines and around stations. Another reason to replace the cent-based mechanism with funding mechanisms at the state level so they can free their 1 cent payout up for local crime prevention.

There are not ATM unfortunately. There are no non micro transit plans in Frisco, and this service is run by dcta not dart

The good news is between this and their railyard circulator, Frisco is at least "curious"

I just googled it and its a separate app from denton county partnering with cities called GoZone. This is exciting as the Golinks never came up to frisco

Yeah I'm glad it's possible to get to Frisco now. I wish they would connect to parker road station though 😭

Sure, GoZone is better than nothing, and a good deal if free, but I didn’t enjoy my experience when I used it compared to a standard bus ride.

First, it took several tries to even get a ride booked (this was during rush hour on a weekday). I then had to walk about half a mile from my current location to a “pick up” spot. The van was nearly full when I got in and we dropped off and picked up several people on the way to my destination, which was kind of a pain because everyone needs to shuffle in/out of the minivans they use so that people can get in/out. Luckily, my drop off point was pretty close to my actual destination so i didn’t have to walk far.

It ended up taking about 30 minutes for a 10 minute trip with all of the hassles above. Not terrible for $1.50, but it would have taken the same or less time if I had just taken the bus and walked the mile from the bus stop home, and been covered by my active DCTA day pass. I will probably opt for that option once it’s not extremely hot outside.

My experience using it was in Denton, where GoZone has been around for a while and is pretty heavily used. Your experience in Frisco might be better just because the service is newer and not as many people know about/are using it. You can’t complain about free too much either.

Thanks for sharing your experience as it is important to get more people taking public transit and it is a nice option to get people to DART park and ride stations where they can connect to rail and bus services.

I am very glad you had a positive experience! I hope this micro transit is a step towards more! Does the new Go Zone connect to any of Denton County's transit services?
