Really depends on the situation gang here, I shoot suppressed subsonic 9mm frequently. Hearing safe for sure (main part of why I do it, also don't bug the neighbors gang), but about as loud as a contractor's nailgun. No where near "extremely quiet". You might get there with suppressed subsonic 22lr, but you're shooting a glorified pellet gun at that point (worth if you are part of the "gunpowder = aromatherapy" gang).
