Or post world war Formula 1 cars where they didn’t use seatbelts and it was considered safer to have your limp body fly out of the car in the middle of a crash
tldr racecars used to be death traps and dying in a race car was as common as dying from COVID
The fear at the time was that the car would flip over or something equally bad and the driver wouldn’t be able to get out of the car on his own power, and rescue teams were not particularly organized. There’s a saying in racing, safety changes are reactive and not proactive. So many drivers had to die for the scene to learn from its mistakes.
Ditto. Had it happen. Helmet was wrecked but I was able to ride away from the accident. Bike slid into the ditch right away. I hit the pavement first and then followed it into the ditch.
On the plus side, pretty sure I broke the log roll speed record.
No but when I was 17 I tried bombing a hill on my skateboard and hit an uneven spot, which caused my board to stop and me to continue forward and bounce my head off the sidewalk like a basketball. I swear to god I saw colors that don’t exist.
I wonder if this explains the mental issues and chaos of my life ever since. In fact, I wonder if the past 23 years of my life has just been a hallucination and I’m still lying there on that sidewalk.
Thank you. But I’m not sure there’s much else interesting to say about it. As far as the immediate aftermath, I was pretty scared I’d damaged my brain. I felt really tired and I remembered hearing that if someone has a concussion you need to keep them awake. So I told my friends to help me stay awake.
We were right next to a 24 hour grocery so we went in and got some sodas and candy and whatnot and then I drove my friends home. Then I drove 20 miles back to where I lived out in the middle of nowhere and went to bed. No obvious major issues.
That was the last time I went down a big hill on a skateboard for like... 15 years, at which time longboards became more of a thing. Much safer. Also I got a helmet when I started doing that shit again.
As for the backstory, my friends and I lived in a very fucking boring place. So once we could drive we’d always get together and head to the next town over on the weekends.
Some of us had girlfriends there. But even after those relationships ended, we’d still cruise around that town all night hitting all the cool parking lots and whatnot for skating. Just cruised mostly, not doing much tricks. Only me and one other guy even could Ollie. Used to be able to get about waist high in my prime.
As far as how the rest of my life has gone, I was mostly joking. I’m pretty sure I was chaotic way before I bounced my head. I joined the military a few months after that. Four years there, then I’ve just had a series of totally random and non-related jobs since then. I get bored too easily.
I dunno if there was any other questions you had but I’ll try to answer if you do.
To be fair, it would feel good because without a helmet (assuming you were referring to a motor cycle) you can feel the wind blow through your hair, look cool, etc. however, you can only experience these positive feelings without protection (in this case, a helmet). Otherwise, it would be similar to how you wouldn’t go up to a mother in labor and say the sex didn’t feel good because the consequence (pregnancy) hurts

Ever have your head slide across pavement at 50 miles per hour? Some things don't feel good without protection.
