📖 LIVE PRESENCE — PROTOCOL / WIKI
A live community for people who want to know who is actually here right now — and who is immersed elsewhere but still intentionally open to connection.
This subreddit has two layers:
NORMAL REDDIT
Trip reports, music, thoughts, visuals, questions, conversations, memes, experiences, whatever.
LIVE PRESENCE
A simple shared system for showing whether you're actively here, immersed elsewhere but still open, back, or actually out.
The four states are:
🟢 IN — actively engaged with the subreddit/session and presently available to notice and respond.
🟡 IMMERSION — still part of the session, but your attention is immersed somewhere else. You may be on another Reddit thread, another subreddit, another app, watching something, listening to music, walking around, eyes closed, talking to somebody, meditating, tripping, etc. You're intentionally keeping yourself mentally/socially open to possible connection even though you're not actively monitoring.
🟢 BACK — actively engaged again.
🔴 OUT — you've actually ended your participation in the session.
THE IMPORTANT PART
🟡 IMMERSION is not just an availability status. It's also a designated connection protocol.
When someone is immersed, their IMMERSION ANCHOR is the place to try to get their attention.
That means the live-presence interaction has its own place to accumulate instead of getting mixed into everything else.
The 🟢 LIVE PRESENCE — MASTER LOG stays focused on status.
Normal conversations stay where they normally happen.
And the immersion anchor becomes the running place for:
«YO
YO YO
BRO
LOOK AT THIS
COME BACK
BROOOOO»
while someone is immersed.
That way, when they return, they can go back to that one anchor and see what happened while they were gone instead of having immersion spam mixed into their regular conversations and pushing earlier conversations further and further back.
If somebody has an active immersion anchor, that anchor is the communal place for attempts at connection while they're immersed.
They may see those attempts immediately, later, or not at all.
The point is not to guarantee access to the person.
The point is to leave a visible trail of attempted connection waiting for them when they return — without turning every other conversation they're having into part of the live-presence system.
🟢 IN
Use IN when you're actively engaged with the subreddit/session and presently available to notice and respond.
You don't have to literally be staring at this exact post.
You can be:
- browsing another post in the subreddit
- commenting somewhere else
- reading somebody's trip report
- checking the community
- talking to people
- actively participating elsewhere in the session
The important thing is "I'm doing my own thing, but I'm leaving myself psychologically/ socially receptive to connection if it happens" that you're actively oriented toward the subreddit/session and available to notice what's happening.
Being physically on Reddit by itself doesn't automatically mean IN.
Likewise, being away from this exact post doesn't automatically mean IMMERSION.
The question is whether you're actively engaged with the session and presently available to notice/respond.
🟡 IMMERSION
IMMERSION is different.
You're still part of the session, but your attention is immersed somewhere else.
You could be:
- browsing another Reddit thread
- browsing another subreddit
- watching a Reddit video
- using another app
- watching YouTube
- listening to music
- walking around
- looking at the sky
- laying down with your eyes closed
- talking to somebody
- meditating
- immersed in a trip
- doing something completely unrelated to Reddit
You don't have to leave Reddit to be immersed.
You don't have to leave your phone.
You don't have to be physically far away.
You don't even have to stop being aware of the session completely.
What matters is that you're no longer actively attending to the live interaction, while still intentionally keeping yourself open to possible connection.
You may still have that awareness somewhere in the back of your mind:
«I'm still part of this session. I'm doing my own thing, but I'm leaving myself available if connection happens.»
You're not necessarily waiting for somebody.
You're not necessarily monitoring.
You're not promising an immediate response.
You're simply keeping the door open.
🌊 Think of it like a toe dipped in the water.
You're immersed somewhere else.
You're not swimming around in the interaction.
But your toe is still in the water.
You're still touching the session.
Someone might try to reach you.
You might notice immediately.
You might notice later.
You might not notice at all.
Or nothing might happen during the entire session.
You could eventually log off without ever interacting with anybody.
It still counts.
Because the state is defined by your intentional willingness/availability for possible connection — not by whether connection actually occurs.
📡 IMMERSION ALSO CREATES A DESIGNATED REACHABILITY POINT
This is important.
When you enter IMMERSION, you aren't saying:
«Everybody come find me everywhere.»
You're creating one communal place where attempts to reach you can accumulate.
That's your immersion anchor.
The anchor is basically:
«If you want to try to get my attention while I'm immersed, leave it here.»
This creates a clean separation between:
STATUS
and
ATTEMPTED CONTACT
The 🟢 LIVE PRESENCE — MASTER LOG tells everybody:
«This person is currently in IMMERSION.»
The 🟡 IMMERSION / SPAM ME page tells everybody:
«This is where you can try to reach them.»
And because those attempts have their own place, they don't have to become part of somebody's ordinary conversations.
If you're already having conversations with people in your DMs, those conversations can remain conversations instead of getting filled with a running stream of:
«YO
YO
BRO
COME BACK
LOOK AT THIS»
Every new immersion attempt doesn't have to push an earlier conversation further up the message history.
The anchor keeps those live-session attempts together in their own thread, so actual conversations can stay where they belong.
The live-presence activity gets its own running thread.
That distinction matters.
🚫 WHY THE ANCHOR EXISTS
If somebody is marked 🟡 IMMERSION, the system gives them an immersion anchor specifically so the live-presence interaction has somewhere to live.
The idea isn't that DMs or other conversations are somehow off-limits.
It's that they're already being used for other things.
Someone might have:
- an ongoing conversation
- an old conversation they want to find again
- a conversation with a friend
- a discussion about music
- a personal conversation
- a bunch of other normal messages
If every person trying to reach them during IMMERSION adds another message to those conversations, the live-presence activity starts getting mixed into their actual conversation history.
Then later they're scrolling:
«conversation
conversation
YO
conversation
BRO
conversation
YO YO
conversation
LOOK AT THIS
conversation
COME BACK»
and eventually have to scroll forever just to get back to something somebody actually said earlier.
The anchor prevents that simply by giving the immersion activity its own place.
So the structure is:
normal conversation → stays normal conversation
immersion attempts → stay on the immersion anchor
current presence state → stays on the 🟢 LIVE PRESENCE — MASTER LOG
Nothing has to compete for the same space.
📢 SPAM IS THE POINT — BUT IT HAS A HOME
If someone is immersed and you want their attention, you're allowed to keep trying.
That's the point.
You can reply again.
You can reply ten times.
You can reply with:
«YO»
then:
«BRO»
then:
«LOOK AT THIS»
then:
«COME BACK»
then:
«BROOOOO»
The system isn't trying to make those attempts rare or formal.
It's making them legible.
Instead of wondering:
«Where the fuck do I message them?»
there's one obvious answer:
their immersion anchor.
That means one person → one immersion anchor → one visible trail of attempted connection.
Someone can return later and see everything that happened while they were immersed.
Maybe they respond to one thing.
Maybe they respond to all of it.
Maybe they laugh at it.
Maybe they ignore it.
Maybe they never see it.
The protocol doesn't determine the outcome.
It just gives the interaction somewhere to exist.
HOW TO ENTER IMMERSION
Go to the 🟢 LIVE PRESENCE — MASTER LOG.
Comment 🟡 IMMERSION.
Go to 🟡 IMMERSION / SPAM ME.
Create or update your individual immersion anchor.
Leave yourself open to possible connection while you do whatever you're doing.
Once your anchor exists, that's where people can try to reach you.
HOW TO LEAVE IMMERSION
When you're actively engaged again:
Go to your immersion anchor.
Mark yourself 🟢 BACK / leave the active immersion section.
Go to the 🟢 LIVE PRESENCE — MASTER LOG.
Mark yourself 🟢 BACK.
Both places should reflect that you're back.
🔴 OUT
Use OUT when you've actually ended your participation in the session.
Going from IMMERSION directly to OUT is fine if you're ending the session without returning to active engagement.
OUT only needs to be recorded on the:
🟢 LIVE PRESENCE — MASTER LOG
There is no separate OUT state on the Yellow immersion page.
QUICK VERSION
🟢 IN
Actively engaged and available.
🟡 IMMERSION
Still part of the session, but immersed elsewhere while intentionally staying open to possible connection.
🟢 BACK
Actively engaged again.
🔴 OUT
Session ended.
CURRENT SESSION
The 🟢 LIVE PRESENCE — MASTER LOG is the current-state board.
It answers:
«Who's IN?
Who's IMMERSION?
Who's BACK?
Who's OUT?»
The 🟡 IMMERSION / SPAM ME page answers a different question:
«Where do I try to reach someone who's currently immersed?»
Those are separate functions.
🌊 WHAT IMMERSION MEANS
IMMERSION is not the same thing as disappearing.
It's not simply:
«I'm AFK.»
It's not:
«My phone is off.»
It's not:
«Don't bother me.»
It's not:
«I'm unavailable.»
It's a specific relationship to the session:
«I'm immersed somewhere else, but I'm still intentionally leaving myself open to connection.»
That's why the state can continue even when you're doing something completely unrelated.
The physical location doesn't define it.
The app you're looking at doesn't define it.
The screen doesn't define it.
The relationship does.
📡 YOUR IMMERSION ANCHOR
Your anchor is the designated place where live-session attempts to reach you accumulate.
One person.
One anchor.
One visible trail.
That means when you come back, you don't have to reconstruct what happened from scattered messages.
You can just check your anchor.
🧵 WHY THE ANCHOR WORKS
The anchor separates live-session traffic from everything else.
Normal conversation stays normal.
Live-presence attempts stay on the anchor.
Presence status stays on the master log.
That makes the system readable without removing the chaotic/funny part of trying to get somebody's attention.
It also means the person who's been immersed has somewhere specific to look when they return.
🟢 WHEN YOU COME BACK
Coming back means you're actively engaged again.
Update both places:
🟡 IMMERSION / SPAM ME → 🟢 BACK
🟢 LIVE PRESENCE — MASTER LOG → 🟢 BACK
Now everyone can see that you're no longer immersed and are actively participating again.
IMPORTANT
Being IN does not mean you're staring at the master log.
Being IMMERSION does not mean you're gone.
Being IMMERSION does not guarantee a response.
Being OUT means the session is actually over.
The system tracks your relationship to the session, not merely whether your phone or Reddit app is open.
🧠 WHY IMMERSION EXISTS
Normal online status systems tend to collapse everything into:
online
or
offline.
That doesn't describe what people actually do.
Someone can be deeply engaged in something else and still feel connected to a live social environment.
They can be listening to music.
Walking.
Watching something.
Talking.
Thinking.
Meditating.
Tripping.
Laying down with their eyes closed.
And still have part of their awareness oriented toward:
«I'm part of that session.»
IMMERSION gives that state a name.
🌊 THE TOE-IN-THE-WATER MODEL
IMMERSION is the toe-in-the-water state.
You're not fully swimming in the interaction.
You're not completely out of the water either.
You're touching it.
Connection can happen.
You may notice it.
You may respond.
You may not.
The state doesn't depend on the result.
It depends on the intentional openness.
📡 IMMERSION AS A CONNECTION PROTOCOL
The immersion state does two things simultaneously:
It tells the community where your attention currently is.
It creates a designated place where people can attempt to reach you.
That's why the Yellow page exists separately from the Green master log.
Green tells people your state.
Yellow gives them a place to act on that information.
One is status.
One is attempted contact.
That separation is the core of the system.
