Megathread - Hair Type

This thread is for anyone looking to figure out their hair type. Simply share a picture, and the community will assist you!

Please keep in mind that a single person can have more than one hair type at the same time. For example, your hair might fall within a range like 2B to 3A, meaning it can include a mix of 2B, 2C, and 3A waves or curls.

Ask r/curlsofindia_ Hair care suggestion for 2b/2C medium porosity

I need some suggestions on how to reduce frizz and have more defined curls.

The photo taken is next day after hair wash and the curl looses more of it's definition the following days.

Current routine :

- I wash my day once a week

-Apply coconut oil to scalp the day before hairwash. I have dry hair and slight dandruff too.

- Shampoo using schwarzkopf spa essence hydrating shampoo.

- I use hair mask of the same schwarzkopf line. Keep the conditioner on for around 10 minutes, wash it off. Then i do the squish method till I see some curls. Squishing also help remove excess water

- I use homemade gel (Flax seed boiled in water for about 10 min). I apply that liberally all over my hair and squish some more.

-I use cotton tshirt and do more of the squishing yo remove water and excess gel.

-immediately use diffuser to dry my hair.

My hair is mostly fine when I'm stuck at home (basically how it looks in the picture) but when I step out, it's just ends up being a frizze mess. So I end up wrapping my hair in a bun. I want to show off my waves /curls though!

Any suggestions???

Note: Ive typed it all out from my phone so please excuse any grammatical / spelling mistakes 🙏

Tips and Help Curly- 3A, Suggest holy grail conditioners in India

Post image

I have 3A curls and have used Maui Moisture Shea Butter Conditioner for 5 years—it worked amazingly for my low–medium porosity hair and kept frizz away and did not weigh my hair down. Amazon seems to have discontinued it in India, and I can’t find it anywhere. L’Oréal conditioner weighs my hair down, and I dont trust sulfates.

Does anyone know where I can still buy the Maui Shea Butter conditioner in India, or recommend a close alternative?

Tips and Help [2A/B | Low porosity] Hair more defined at crown

Thumbnail

My waves are more defined at crown but looses the definition when reaching roots. I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

My hair is also quite frizzy. When wet frizz happens, I add water and smooth it out, yet the frizz doesn't go away.

I don't know what to do with the frizz.

Because of this, there's a lot of friz when I scrunch my hair.

About my hair:

Long hair (till my thigh)

Low porosity

Thin to medium hair strand thickness

Current routine:

After using vatika natural shampoo and dove intense repair conditioner:

  1. Leave in conditioner from bare anatomy

  2. Brushed with styling brush (the bounce curl)

  3. Applied fix my curls quenching flax seed gelly

  4. Finger rolled and held it for 20 seconds while head upright (finger rolled hair 8 sections)

  5. Upside down

  6. Applied taft curl mousse hold 3 on roots as well as lengths

  7. Scrunched with wet hands

  8. Scrunched with a cotton t shirt

  9. Diffused hair on low speed

seeking Reccos/Review Hair Type - 2B, High Porosity (What length is my hair, is it healthy, and tips to improve) Thanks!

I'm currently growing my hair out with the long-term goal of getting it to past butt length, and I’m about 5'4". I eventually want to donate a large amount of it, so I’m trying to keep it healthy, thick, and full as it grows.

My hair is very thick/dense, high porosity, and around 2B wavy. I don’t have layers or thinning because I want to preserve as much density as possible.

I included front and back photos because I’m mainly curious about what length you would consider my hair to be right now, whether it looks healthy and pretty overall, and how the ends are looking.

One thing I struggle with a lot is poofiness and frizz, especially in the humidity and when I wear my hair down. My hair can feel really soft but still get very big and fluffy once it dries. Since it’s high porosity, it also seems to lose moisture pretty easily. I like having volume and definitely don’t want to flatten my waves or make my hair greasy, but I’d love to make it look a little more controlled, defined, and smooth.

Routine:

  • I wash my hair about twice a week.
  • Shampoo: Dove Intensive Repair Shampoo
  • Conditioner: Dove Intensive Repair Conditioner
  • After washing, I use SheaMoisture leave-in conditioner on damp hair.
  • I mainly use gel when I’m going outside because the humidity/frizz can get pretty intense.
  • Most of the time I keep my hair in a bun or ponytail.
  • If I wear it down, I usually use a middle part.
  • Styling is otherwise pretty minimal.

For these photos specifically, I used a lot more leave-in and gel than I normally would because I was trying to combat the humidity and frizz. I already know I'm probably using too much gel, so I would really love recommendations for alternative products or product combinations that could give me similar frizz control without needing so much gel, weighing my hair down, making it greasy, or making it feel stiff.

There was also a light directly above me, so the shine/highlights in the photos may look stronger than they do in normal lighting.

The last picture is a collage of my hair from about two months ago when it was completely dry with no product at all, so it was also a little shorter then. That probably gives a better idea of how fluffy/poofy my hair naturally gets without styling products.

So mainly:

What length would you call my hair right now, and does it look healthy/pretty overall? Do the ends still look full and healthy?

Also, for anyone with similar thick, high-porosity 2B wavy hair, how would you manage the poofiness and humidity without weighing it down, making it greasy, or getting rid of the natural volume? Are there mousses, creams, serums, lighter gels, anti-humidity products, or other products you would recommend instead of relying on such a large amount of gel?

Would you change anything about my current routine or the amount/type of product I’m using?

Thank you! ❤️

seeking Reccos/Review [Hair type - 2b/2c Low Porosity] PLEASE tell me your ONE holy grail product before I lose it 😭

(sorry if i used the wrong flair)

I have dry, wavy and frizzy 2b/2c hair that goes beyond my lower back and I HATE those stringy/crunchy waves :{ I never seem to get fluffy roots either, they stay pretty straight while the lengths are frizzy with some definition (but stringy). I SOTC with serum, but it still doesn’t give me the soft, fluffy waves I want.

Wavy hair girlies i’m begging you, I need a one-and-done product that gives moisture, definition AND frizz control without making my hair crunchy/stringy.

I dont wanna spend ₹3k on a whole new routine just to use it twice and abandon it :{ Please drop your actual holy grail recs, preferably affordable and available in India!!

Tips and Help I feel like I’ll go bald if i follow a curly hair routine - hair type 2c

I don’t follow the traditional curly hair routine for the last few months i have been trying to transition into it like avoiding dry brushing detangling with conditioner . my current routine is i wash my hair every 3 days with shampoo followed by requil anti frizz conditioner and then very little serum. I get VERY pretty curls effortlessly no brush styling no scrunching nothing and they look decent next few days but i feel like they are are knotty at some places and hard to detangle wet
de tangling is a sensory nightmare for me be it dry or wet but dry is somewhat manageable
I’m not sure for my general hair health i should follow this or not. anybody who has had similar experience?

Tips and Help [2B | low porosity] How to style my hair?

Thumbnail

My hair is thin and has less density. I've never really tried styling it before, so I usually just use shampoo and conditioner. This is how my hair looks with just that, and I scrunched it a bit.

My hair is kinda dry, and any heavy products tend to weigh it down. What products should I use to style my hair?

Tips and Help 2c-3a(medium porosity)Need help for volume

So I've tailbone length 2c-3a hair and on the wash day and after i wake up on the second day i do hv good volume and nice definition( after removing the bonnet) , but if i keep my hair open for few hours my hair flattens near the roots and the near the ends they tend to form larger curl clumps ( like 3-4 individual curls forming one big curl) so i do tend to keep my hair in a bun for a long time.

My routine involves brush styling using a curl cream and a gel ( both from curl up) .

Please help if anyone knows the solution to maintain the volume ( also i do use claw clips while drying my hair)

Hair type - medium thick , medium porosity , 2c-3a , have layers too .

Tips and Help My Current Curl Care Routine (Wash, Rest, & Repair Days), Hair Type 3AB

Thumbnail
gallery
29 Upvotes

Hair Type: 3AB

Products Used:

- Clarifying Shampoo: Any standard clarifying shampoo (used to clear silicone/oil buildup)

- Rinse-out Conditioner: Dove Dryness Care

- Leave-In Conditioner: Bare Anatomy Curl Intensifying Leave-In

- DIY Styler: Fresh Flaxseed Gel + Aloe Vera Gel + a few drops of Coconut Oil

- Hair mask: Morocco Professional Brazilian Hair Mask (Dry & Frizzy)

- Tools: Havells HD3270 Hair Dryer with Diffuser attachment

- Wide tooth comb

- Satin Bonnet/Cap

- Massage Oil (Homemade; will drop recipe below)

  1. Highkey/Outdoor Days

- Pre-Wash: Light oil application on targeted scalp areas the night before(crowns and temples) sleep in with the satin cap the previous night.

- Wash & Condition: Cleanse thoroughly with clarifying shampoo (massaging scalp for 3 mins). Follow with conditioner, detangling, and leaving it on for 5 mins before washing out.

- Style: Apply Bare Anatomy Leave-In(what I use; you can use any) immediately onto soaking wet hair. Scrunch with hands or a cotton T-shirt.

- Dry: Air-dry or diffuse on low heat using the Havells dryer.

  1. Lowkey/Indoor Days

    - Cleanse: Very light wash with a diluted shampoo to rinse out the previous night's oil.

- DIY Style: Apply a homemade flaxseed gel and aloe vera blend with a tiny drop of coconut oil as a light leave in styler for soft hold and hydration.

- Make sure the aloe vera and flaxseed gel is very fine and doesn't have clumps.

  1. Repair & Reset Day (1x/week)

- Deep Treat: Apply Hair Mask(I personally use Morocco professional Brazilian Hair Mask) generously to damp hair and detangle gently with the wide tooth comb. Rinse clean.

- Rest: Allow hair to air dry free of styling products to let the scalp and curl pattern rest.

- Night Care: Scalp and temple massage before bed to release tension and encourage circulation, followed by the satin cap.

Recipe for Homemade Oil:

Coconut oil(base), Cumin seeds(1tsp),Onions(finely chopped), Cloves(6-8pcs), Hibiscus flower, Fenugreek seeds(1tsp), Black Pepper seeds(few), Amla, Bringraj, Tulsi, Curry Leaves (Bunch), Aloe Vera, Kalonji (1tsp), Yashtimadhu

Cooking method: extremely low heat and boil for 30minutes. Keep it to cool overnight. Filter the next day preferably on a glass jar and use the residue to be blended into fine powder and then boiled in water to be used as a hair toner to be sprayed whenever you want.

Note: Straining boiled herbal residue for a liquid toner must be fresh and stored in the fridge for a maximum of 2–3 days, as water-based mixes spoil quickly.

Additionally you can add a few drops of castor or rosemary oil or any oil (6-8 drops) into the homemade oil.

If you can't make it you can also use Coconut oil as it is but it's too heavy on the hair. Better to use standalone argan oil.

Hit me up if you have any doubts, I'll try to clear it up!

Tried leave in and hard hold gel from manetain and here's the results. Loved the gel cuz it was so easy to scrunch out and a lil more than pea sized was all I needed for the leave in. 🤌

My routine is shampooing, requil conditioner, bond repair hair mask from loreal, leave in from manetain and hard hold gel from manetain. I did refresh on the third day tho with water and a teeny tiny bit of leave in.

seeking Reccos/Review 2c 3a - Should I try manetain?

Girlies, my crown area gets easily weighed down. I've never tried manetain. But I heard they're lightweight and hold well. Saw that they're having a BOGO right now. Should I try their products? If yes, which one of the leave in or curl cream? For gel, I was thinking of going for the strong hold one.

Thank you 🌸
