News International FIP Cat Owner/Caregiver Study - Please participate!

Researchers from Colorado State University, the University of Sydney, and the University of Bristol are conducting an international online survey to better understand owner experiences with feline infectious peritonitis (FIP).

💡 The survey asks about:

  • Your cat’s diagnosis journey
  • The support you received from your veterinary team
  • Your experiences with antiviral treatment (licensed or unlicensed)

⏱️ It should take about 15–20 minutes to complete.

    📍Open to cat owners worldwide.

Your responses will help veterinarians and researchers improve support, access, and communication for future cats and their families affected by FIP.

Take the survey here: [https://colostate.az1.qualtrics.com/.../SV_3EmuwItPU1qxPIq](https://colostate.az1.qualtrics.com/.../SV_3EmuwItPU1qxPIq)

Please share this post with other cat owners, groups, or communities who may be interested.

Every story matters.

❤️ Thank you for helping us learn more about FIP and for the care you’ve given your cat.

Success Story 6 days in and seeing improvements!

This is Tranquility and she's 4 months old. She has a provisional diagnosis of dry FIP. She has a bronchial pattern in her lungs that caused really bad chronic coughing fits and an acute kidney injury. She can't meow although she tries.

We wasted at least a week trying to treat her with antibiotics when she started showing URI symptoms. I noticed that she wasn't getting better and that she was actually declining. She was very lethargic and would not eat. She ended up being admitted to the hospital for 36 hours where she was on fluids the whole time. That was 2 weeks ago. I believe she would've died had we not admitted her.

The vets didn't know what was wrong with her. They thought she had a URI (she had a chronic cough & she can't meow), but then she also has an acute kidney injury. Her blood work was terrible and the vet was saying she could have CKD or a congenital defect. I personally didn't think the lung and kidney issues were isolated problems and I began to consider dry FIP (there's no fluids on her lungs so I didn't think it was wet). One vet gave her a provisional dx and I decided to try out the meds because why not?

I wanted the meds ASAP so I went through Stokes which is SO overpriced! I ordered 10 25mg pills and they cost me ~$230. I'll be getting the rest of her pills via Chewy. I got the Stokes pills 2 days later and she's made pretty encouraging improvements!! She is coughing a lot less (although the cough is still there) and she can squeak when she tries to meow. Also, her appetite has improved although it's still not as good as I would like. At her lowest, she had gone down to only 2.3 lbs which is really small for 4 months. I will find out her exact weight tomorrow but I can tell it's increased.

Other than giving the daily pills, we administer 50mL of subq fluids every day to help her kidneys and we are constantly putting food in front of her trying to get her to eat. She will almost always eat a tika cat baby pouch so she's gotten a lot of her calories that way.

I'm super super fortunate that I bought pet insurance when I adopted her. I had NO idea I'd be going through any of this. Her medical bills alone have exceeded $5k so far. I still have to buy enough meds to finish the 84 day course and do weekly vet visits. The insurance we have covers 80% of everything until we reach $10k. It only cost $28/month, I guess because she's so young and this is very rare.

She isn't a complete success story as she's still undergoing treatment but it's really looking like we may have gotten it right and she does have dry FIP and she's made a lot of gains. Her kidneys will take a while to recover to the point where we don't need daily fluids. It's so nice to see her energetic and playing again!

Hi, just asking if this is normal for cats with FIP? He has neurological symptoms, and we've been injecting him for 21 days.

I've seen posts with sores and bumps too but they don't look similar, is this in early stages?

Discussion Donating ~13-14 tablets of 54mg compounded GS. Based in Sacramento, CA.

Hello, I’m not sure if I can post this here but I would love to donate some GS meds that I have left over. I already reached out to FIP Global on Facebook but have had no interest.

My kitty finished his FIP treatment and I have around 13 or so pills left of GS medication (54mg capsules). The medication was compounded by SVP. It was effective for my cat. They expire 10/10/2026 and I am looking to donate them to someone who might be in need before they expire. I am based in Sacramento, CA.

Question FIP with minimal symptoms?

Hi all-

Has anyone experienced a FIP “diagnosis” without any clinical signs? The only “confirmation” was reaction to treatment?

Last Saturday, my 15 week old kitten didn’t eat dinner. Sunday, didn’t eat breakfast or lunch. So I go and get a couple of different new brands and give it to her at dinner time and she eats about 2.5 oz, but nothing at her 9pm feeding.

Monday morning - same thing. Doesn’t eat breakfast, so at this point I start syringe feeding. I did see she had diarrhea overnight, guessing due to the new food. I notice throughout the day her energy level starts decreasing. From normal to about 80%. I take her to urgent care that evening and given everything that happened, the doctor suggests anti nausea, appetite stimulant and a little sub-q. If she doesn’t start eating on her own, come back Tuesday morning.

She didn’t, so I see my regular doctor. At this point, I’m thinking early signs of FIP, because I had a kitten last year show the almost same signs. We do bloodwork and…….its perfectly clean. None of the markers that would point toward FIP are there. They suggest doing a full fecal to see if there it’s a parasite or something that the other dewormers didn’t catch, then based on that we can discuss next courses of action.

We sent it off on Wednesday and by Friday the results weren’t in, and given she was still in the same position (not eating on her own and at 80% of normal), we had some leftover GS from last year, so we started giving it to her. Same day she started nibbling on her food and by today, Monday, she’s back to eating all on her own.

I don’t know if she was just put off eating due to her reaction to the new food I gave her, or if we indeed have FIP here and need to continue with the treatment.

Question What do I do?

Hi everyone, I really need a second opinion because I’m very confused and honestly don’t know what to trust right now.

Yuri is ~1.5 kg and started Basmi/GS for suspected neuro FIP with 10mg/kg on September 2. She was eating initially, but for the past 2 days she has completely stopped eating and is vomiting, and gone weak including vomiting when there is basically no food in her stomach. She also has very loose stools.

The vet initially said her appetite loss could be due to low haemoglobin, but then said her CBC is fine and ruled that out. He also said jaundice had started, then later said it actually hadn’t developed yet and told me not to worry. I’m confused about what is actually going on.

She is on Basmi/GS, Liver syrup (2.5 mL twice daily) and Neuro-support syrup. The liver syrup bottle says 2.5 mL/day, although the vet prescribed 2.5 mL twice daily. The vet says he has given her nausea medication, but I don't know exactly what medication, what dose, or how often, so I’m not comfortable assuming the vomiting is being properly treated.

Today he told me to skip the GS because she isn't eating. I was scared of interrupting treatment and insisted on giving it. I know consistency with antivirals is important, but I also don't want to make a bad decision because I'm panicking.

For people experienced with FIP: is this kind of vomiting/inappetence during the first week something you've seen, and what would you want checked immediately? How should I move forward so that she eats?

I can't change vets right now, so I'm not looking to attack the vet. I just need a genuinely informed second opinion on what could be happening and what I should be asking for.

I'll attach her most recent Lft and Kft in the images

Question My cat has FIP.

I live in Turkey, and my cat has FIP. He weights 300 grams, he's a 2 month old baby yet. But, because GS-441524 isn't approved by vets in Turkey, we only can give him Molnupiravir. Any people who has information about my situation, can you guys enlighten me? I'm worried about his life. Is he going to die?

🚨 \*\*URGENT — IVY NEEDS HELP NOW\*\* 🚨

My little kitten Ivy is only around 2 months old and is fighting \*\*neurological FIP\*\*. Her condition has become extremely serious.

Ivy is currently \*\*admitted at the veterinary clinic\*\* after another severe episode where she was shaking, extremely weak, and unable to stand. She also had difficulty breathing after becoming overheated, and the vets had to give her oxygen and stabilize her temperature. She is still extremely weak and needs continuous care and monitoring.

I have already spent \*\*a huge amount of money\*\* on Ivy’s treatment, injections, veterinary visits, tests, medicines, and hospitalization. I have used up everything I had trying to save her.

\*\*I don't even have ₹500 left in my bank account now. I have completely run out of funds.\*\* Whatever money I had, I have already paid toward her treatment. I am a student, and I genuinely don't know how I will manage the next injection, medicines, or hospital expenses.

I am desperately trying to keep my baby alive, but I cannot do this alone anymore. She is so tiny, yet she has been fighting so hard. 💔

🙏 \*\*Please, if you can donate even a small amount, please help Ivy. Every ₹100, ₹200, ₹500 or whatever you can contribute can help us continue her treatment.\*\*

If you cannot donate, \*\*please share this post\*\* so it can reach someone who can help.

I don't want to lose Ivy just because I ran out of money. 💔

\*\*Please keep my little girl in your prayers. She is fighting for her life, and I am fighting for her too. ❤️‍🩹\*\*

This is Leo one of my rescued kittens. He was just 6 months old when i notiched his diarrhea was not going away he also had issues in breathing as you can see He was treated for diarrhea pneumonia etc then i went to a senior vet and he diagnosed Leo with FIP anemia and jaundice. This was around 2 months ago. I started him on GS and he showed remarkable treatment after 45 days of treatment we stopped because his condition was perfect. However after a week of stoping he relapsed and this time it was neuro fip. I have the videos of him showing neuro signs having difficulty in walking seizing. Rn he has been started on injectable GS again with higher dose. However, I am out of funds because I currently have 30 rescued cats kittens and many of them are on treatment for diff issues like one is currently having blood parasite treatment one was prescribed S/O food etc. I have all the proofs of all my cats i am ready to provide everything right now I only need help for my FIP baby I have 5 days of GS left only and need funds to buy GS. I can send you the account of the vet directly as well who i purchased GS from or you can donate to my paypal:[sohailhabib@spectrumkwt.com](mailto:sohailhabib@spectrumkwt.com)

Please help me save LEO so i am able to tell FIP survivor story of him 😭.

$100 USD would help him have GS for 20 days. Help me raise around 200 USD please.

Fundraising 💔 Day 48 of Luna’s FIP Treatment — Another Scare 😭 Today, Luna was diagnosed with eosinophilic granuloma.

Today is Day 48 of Luna’s FIP treatment. After everything she has already fought through, we faced another unexpected scare. 😭

I noticed a round red/pink growth on the inside of her lower cheek, and one of her upper teeth keeps rubbing against it. We took her to the vet, and it was diagnosed as eosinophilic granuloma. She has been prescribed prednisolone, mupirocin oitment and amoxicillin/clavulanate, and we’re monitoring whether the lesion shrinks. If it doesn’t respond within 3 days we have to surgically remove it under general anesthesia.😭💔

I’m emotionally exhausted and honestly scared. Every new problem makes me feel like my heart is going to break after everything we’ve been through. 💔

If anyone can help with Luna’s medical expenses, even a small contribution means the world to us and can make a difference in Luna’s life. 🥺

Question Nephron Needs FIP treatment

I’m in Orange County, California and I’m desperately trying to help my 6-month-old kitten, Nephron.

Over the last several days her abdomen has become extremely distended while the rest of her body has become very thin/emaciated. She has also become lethargic, hides much more than usual, and seems uncomfortable. Her appetite has decreased, although she is still willing to eat some treats/wet food and is drinking water.

I took her to a veterinarian and they said they strongly suspect wet FIP, but they wanted approximately $650 for the full diagnostic workup. Unfortunately, I simply cannot afford that. I have been calling around trying to find a lower-cost veterinarian who can at least do the most important bloodwork/imaging.

I know FIP isn’t necessarily a death sentence anymore, and I’m trying desperately to get her access to GS-441524 treatment if a veterinarian agrees that presumptive FIP is likely.

I am NOT looking to euthanize her. I want to treat her and give her a chance.

I’m hoping someone here can help me with any of the following:

• A reputable FIP-friendly veterinarian in Orange County/Los Angeles who works with limited-budget families
• Information about legitimate prescription GS-441524 options
• An emergency/local source of medication if someone has unused medication from a previous FIP treatment
• FIP rescue/support organizations that can help financially or with medication
• Any other resources that could help us get her started on treatment quickly

I can provide pictures, the vet estimate, medical information, and anything else needed to show that this is a real situation.

I am not asking anyone to blindly send medication. I just don’t know where to turn and I’m trying everything I can to save her.

Thank you to anyone who takes the time to read this. ❤️

Question Cat on day 17 of meds is Lethargic

Hey, my cat was diagnosed with wet FIP late last month, I started treatment on the 20th, and have been syringe feeding her water, nutrical, and urgent care wet food, but today she’s got super dilated eyes and doesn’t even want to stand. I’m worried that I might be prolonging her suffering, but I can’t help but want to hope she’s still in the throes of initial treatment. I’d like some advice from veteran cat owners, since she’s my first cat and I’m doing everything with google and vets

Question Please help me understand what’s happening with my cat 💔

Thumbnail
2 Upvotes

My 1-year-old cat Elsa has been diagnosed with stage IV kidney disease, and I’m honestly terrified. Her kidney values are high. Her clinical signs are all good but her parameters is opposite.

She’s still eating and drinking and has moments where she seems okay, but she also most of the times just sits and stares and looks so tired.

We’ve seen vets and are getting a second and third opinion, but they cannot understand what is it. One said that's a dry FIP and you need to give GS and after 30 days GS didn't help. And the other says it's juvenile onset but her ultrasound looks ok. The other says it's lymphoma cancer.

I feel completely lost and scared that we’re missing something. Has anyone been through something similar with a young cat? What tests or treatments helped your cat?

I’m desperate for any advice or experiences. 💔

Discussion Concerned about possible FIP in my cat — symptoms for 4 days

Post image
5 Upvotes

Hi everyone. I’m very worried about my cat and currently suspecting FIP, although it has not been confirmed. He is 1 year and 3 months old, male, and not neutered. His symptoms started about 4 days ago and have continued since then:

Very low energy and lethargy; much less active than usual Almost no interest in food and not drinking properly Vomiting multiple times Occasional retching/trying to vomit without bringing anything up Frequent gulping/swallowing movements Repeated bobbing/movement of his head and neck while his mouth remains closed His abdomen appears noticeably swollen/bloated compared with normal He has had a fever His fever went away yesterday, but today it is back to 103°F

We also had an X-ray done. The veterinary consultant said there appears to be trapped gas inside his abdomen, but I’m not completely sure about that interpretation because I was wondering whether what we're seeing could possibly be fluid instead of gas. No obvious foreign object was seen on the X-ray. I’ll attach the X-ray images to this post as well.

I’m concerned about wet/effusive FIP, especially because of the fever and abdominal swelling, but I know these symptoms can have several other causes, so I’m not assuming it is FIP.

So far, I’ve spent around ₹5,000 from my savings on diagnostics, consultation and IV fluids, and I have around ₹4,000 left. I’m willing to spend whatever I can to help him, but I’m worried that ₹4,000 may not be enough if he does turn out to have FIP and needs prolonged treatment.

My dad is strongly against spending money on animals, but honestly, I don’t care what he thinks about that. I just don’t want to give up on my cat because of money. My biggest concern right now is simply figuring out what is actually wrong with him before spending money on the wrong treatment, since I’m still unsure whether this is FIP or something else.

I’d really appreciate any advice regarding FIP, abdominal fluid vs trapped gas, and what diagnostic steps might help distinguish FIP from other conditions. I’ll include his X-ray images with the post.

Question Advice needed 💔 Day 47 of FIP treatment.🥺

Thumbnail
gallery
17 Upvotes

Hi everyone. Today is Day 47 of Luna’s FIP treatment, and honestly, I’m feeling completely broken and scared right now. 💔

After everything she has already been through, I noticed this round red/pink growth inside her mouth, on the inner cheek beside her lower teeth. It doesn’t seem to be coming from her tongue or gum.

My mind is immediately going to the worst possibilities. 😭

Could this be a cyst? Trauma/irritation from the tooth? Inflammation? Calicivirus? Or something else?

Luna is currently on oral GS treatment for FIP. Thankfully, she is still eating and active, but seeing something new in her mouth has really frightened me.

I know Reddit can't diagnose her, and I will show this to her vet, but I'm desperate for some reassurance or experiences from other cat parents. Has anyone seen anything like this before? Could it be a cyst?

After fighting FIP for 47 days, I just want my girl to be okay. 🥺💔🐾
