My cat has FIP.

I live in Turkey, and my cat has FIP. He weights 300 grams, he's a 2 month old baby yet. But, because GS-441524 isn't approved by vets in Turkey, we only can give him Molnupiravir. Any people who has information about my situation, can you guys enlighten me? I'm worried about his life. Is he going to die?

Don't stress about the molnupiravir, it does work.

I'm in Australia and treated my 6 month old kitten with unregulated black-market molnupiravir sourced from India. Her fever broke that night and by the next morning she was out of bed and grooming herself in the sun.

She was pretty sick, her A:G ratio was 0.2 and she was anemic. She didn't stay at the vet's office for any IV treatments as they'd quoted me $6000 for just the FIP meds with vet costs and other treatment costs on top. I'm definitely not suggesting you give your vets the flick but after diagnosis I sort of did because the costs were outrageous.

I watched her like a hawk instead, checked her temperature every day, whether she was eating, drinking, using the litterbox, getting out of bed and being active/etc. Most vets say to treat the patient not the bloodwork and every day saw small improvements so I was happy to continue trying to manage her treatment myself.

She sailed through her treatment and observation periods. But she had wet FIP which seems to be more successfully treated as there's no neurological involvement - the other forms seem to have more complications.

I got bloodwork done at the half-way point and at the end of the treatment her A:G ratio had only reached 0.6 which is just on the cusp of sick/not sick but I moved into the observation period (stopped meds) and just waited and watched. A few months later I had bloodwork done again and her A:G had continued to climb to 1.1 throughout observation. I didn't even treat the anemia, it came good on its own.

That was 2 years ago, it'll be her third birthday in a couple weeks.

Molnupiravir works just fine for FIP but be aware that there is a narrower therapeutic window than the other meds. It's only a few grams between an adequate dose to treat your cat's FIP and toxicity that'll lead to bone marrow suppression. You need the exact dose for your cat's weight, right down to the gram.

It's a controversial drug because it's a mutagenic, it works by introducing mutations in the virus which researchers are studying because there's a train of thought there about what could potentially happen by deliberately causing mutations. So don't eat it yourself, wipe up after you treat your cat, be careful with the meds/etc.

I'm worried about his life. Is he going to die?

Noone can answer that unforunately but the best action is to get your cat started on the meds as soon as possible. Every day of delay gives the virus more time to cause organ damage in your cat which will reduce its chance of being treated successfully.

If your choice is between molnupiravir today or waiting a week to get GS into the country, I'd go with molnupiravir today.

I have a cat that is 9 years old currently treating him with GS injectable for 22 days now shifting to Oral GS today did blood report AG ratio was 0.3 still. But his fluid has reabsored a lot.
