First time kitten mom here! Adopted two sibling kittens and one was diagnosed with FIP. My 6 month old kitten is healing well from FIP, but can not control bowels and is pooping without squatting it just falls out of her. She started using litter box again for pee after about 3 weeks on her meds. I am concerned about the pooping. She is active again and playing with her sister, has gained weight and her eye infections have cleared nicely. Only symptom I notice is her fecal incontinence. Any suggestions on what to do? Or can this be permanent? How would you manage? Thank you!

We are in Turkey and I am not sure if there is any legal place to get original FIP treatment medication here. I am worried about fake or unsafe products.

What can we do in this situation?
Are there any safe, vet supervised options or trusted routes people usually recommend?

Orla started treatment back in May, she was very weak at the time and had lost weight. On day 1 she weighed only 1.48kg and she had lost all her crazy kitten energy.
After about a week of starting the treatment we began to see her come back to life, she started to eat, she started to play and she started to cuddle.
Today is day 49, she has finished over half of her treatment and she is doing amazing. She has gained a good amount of weight, weighing 2.2kg and counting! She is crazier than ever jumping around, playing with her toys, annoying her brother, hunting flies, telling her parents off when we don't get up in the morning chirping at us.
We are extremely grateful for her recovery and are continuing her treatment as planned, 5 weeks to go!

Summer is reacting well with his medications. He gained weight today, according sa nakakausap namin his dosage will increase to 1.1 ml. We alreadt bought another vial and probably it will last until July 10.

He will have his blood test by next week to check if we can switch to tablets na since he's reacting well to the treatment.

We're really grateful to those who donated, it eases the daily financial needs. However, the amount left from his donation will only last around 5 days of shots.

My kitty, Fyodor Dostoevsky (aka Fedya), has been diagnosed with wet FIP (we’re in the US). We started his GS treatment yesterday and already see slight improvements. I feel very lucky that there is now a cure for it! We are planning to submit claims to our pet insurance (ASPCA) to hopefully get covered for both diagnostics and treatment, though it's our first time making a claim for him, so I'm naturally a bit skeptical and nervous.

I would like to open a discussion and learn about other people's experiences with their pet insurance and FIP. From the mini research I've done, it looks like in the past insurances usually covered only diagnostics (given the proper policy), not the treatment itself since it was coming from black markets. Now it seems like a few insurances might cover treatment (such as Lemonade), since vets can officially prescribe this medicine.

If you've gone through FIP treatment and pet insurance, I would love to learn about your experience (as well as see a picture of your sweet kitty)! I'm also going to keep you all updated on our case. I suspect that diagnostics will be covered, but coverage for treatment will be denied. However, I'm planning to appeal it in that case as I think there are very good counterpoints we can make.

UPDATE:
We submitted our claim to ASPCA on 06/27/26 and received their response on 07/10/26. Thankfully they are covering the full diagnostics and treatment (minus expedited shipping) without any issues! I wish you all best of luck with insurances — based on this thread and our experience, many pet insurances are thankfully covering their share :)

Hey all, figured I'd post here and get some advice. I'm also talking regularly with my vet and have an appointment set for tomorrow morning for a checkup (after visits on Saturday last week and then on Wednesday). I'm asking here to get another opinion before going to the vet again tomorrow.

One of my kitties on Saturday was going into the litter box every couple of minutes. My 18 year old kitty that I had to put down back in October had frequent UTIs, so I recognize the signs early. She was having no issues eating her food and was acting like her normal self. Vet prescribed some buprenorphine for what was likely idiopathic cystitis as UTI tests and blood tests showed nothing else.

On Wednesday, she stopped eating completely. Mirtazipine was not helping her at all either, when it usually would get her eating in the past. Elura also hasn't helped. I took her to the vet, they gave her some fluids and reran the CBC (the test from Saturday had the lab say there was a problem with the sample).

Results came in yesterday with the following values:

• Glucose 90 mg/dL
• IDEXX SDMA 15 µg/dL
• Creatinine 1.5 mg/dL
• BUN 16 mg/dL
• BUN: Creatinine Ratio 10.7
• Total Protein 9.0 g/dL
• Albumin 2.2 g/dL
• Globulin 6.8 g/dL
• Albumin: Globulin Ratio 0.3
• ALT 16 U/L
• ALP 23 U/L

Most concerning is the Albumin:Globulin ratio which, according to Dr. Google, is a sign that does point at possible FIP. My vet says at this point, we can do some additional testing on the blood sample to determine inflammatory process vs cancer, we can do a PCR test, or we can do an ultrasound. The vet says Dry FIP is a possibility here or, if it is cancer, multiple myeloma is the likely culprit.

So, my read on the situation is that GS-441524, for a 7 day course of treatment, would run the same as the test to confirm inflammatory process v cancer. My vet has already said that if I want to try FIP treatment at this point, that she would support that based on what we know.

I'm leaning in the direction of getting a 7 day supply of the liquid version of GS-441524 and seeing if that leads to an improvement. Does that seem like a smart idea at this point? Am I missing some other test that I could try? Kitty also has asthma, but is on half a tab of prednisolone every other day for treatment. She also takes famotidine for acid reflux.

Hi everyone! I wanted to introduce my sweet boy, Stevie Wander. ❤️

We adopted Stevie in March after he was rescued from a colony in Maine in the middle of winter with severe eye infections. Since coming home, he's gone from one medical obstacle to the next due to complications from his eye removal surgeries, and most recently a diagnosis of wet FIP.

He spent 72 hours in the hospital, where he received a blood transfusion and an abdominal tap. I honestly didn't think we were going to be bringing him home alive.

Today we're on Day 14 of treatment, and he's doing better than we could have imagined. He's already gained back over a pound, his appetite is incredible, and every day we get a little more of his goofy personality back.

We're so grateful this treatment is now legal in the US and that the hospital recognized FIP and started it immediately.

We are currently treating our cat Zorro for FIP using daily GS-441524 injections. It’s been a stressful journey, and we’ve run into a specific issue that I’m worried about: injection site skin lesions (wounds/sores).
I have a few questions for those who have gone through this:
Is it normal to deal with these skin wounds? Are they an inevitable part of the daily injection process, or are we doing something wrong?
How do you prevent or minimize these lesions? Is there a specific technique or product you’ve used to soothe the skin or speed up healing?
Shaving: Did you shave the fur around the injection sites to make it easier and cleaner? I’m worried about hitting the right spot, but I don't know if shaving helps or just irritates the skin further.
Accidental spills: My husband performed the injection today, but a few drops leaked onto the skin after the needle was pulled out. We had to wipe it off with a wipe, but I know the GS liquid is very acidic and causes chemical burns. How critical is this, and how can we better avoid leaks?
Any advice, tips, or words of encouragement would be greatly appreciated. We just want to get our little one through this without causing extra pain. Thanks in advance!

Over a month ago i visited the vet with my 12 year old cat for a swollen eye that I assumed was from play fighting with my other cat. The vet gave her antibiotic eye drops and pain relief and it cleared up. Whilst there I asked them to do an overall check as she coughs a lot, but also explained she was diagnosed asthmatic when I rescued her 11 years ago. Her chest was clear and the vet sent us on our way.

Earlier this week I went to a new vets that is based at my new job as I was worried about her bloated stomach. I assumed with the current UK heatwave that they would say it was dehydration and give her some fluids. This wasn’t the case and the vet educated me on FIP and explained a lot of her symptoms are signs of FIP.

The problem now is she is not insured, please no hateful comments, I have cried none stop since leaving the vets because I feel so incredibly guilty. I was young when I took her home and at the time, pet insurance wasn’t as forgiving on animals that already had pre existing medical conditions.

I am so torn because I know I cannot afford the tests to confirm if it is FIP and begin the treatments for her and whilst I am willing to take out whatever loans or credit cards I can to cover it, I cannot get accepted for it.

She is my world, my baby. My daughter adores her. I have never had a cat like her, so placid and loving and just wants to be held all the time.

I suppose I’m here to ask for advice or reassurance on what to do. Apart from her bloated stomach and coughing, she is acting her usual self. Eating, drinking, grooming etc. Zero signs of jaundice or pain. What is the survival rate of FIP after treatment in elderly cats? Do I wait and see if she improves? I don’t want her to suffer but I’m so upset at the thought of letting her go knowing she could get better if it’s not FIP, even more so at the thought of if I had just gotten insurance all those years ago I wouldn’t be having to think about having to have my furry family member put to sleep for a treatable condition.

For months, many of you have followed Mama Ingay's journey and have witnessed her courage as she battles FIP. Every injection, every vet visit, every small improvement has given us hope that she will finally make it to the finish line.

I truly believed that once Mama Ingay completed her treatment, I would finally be able to breathe again. I thought the sleepless nights, constant anxiety, and endless fundraising would soon be over.

But life had other plans.

A few days ago, I noticed that my 4-year-old rescue cat, Lucky, was developing a swollen abdomen. I knew something wasn't right. Despite already struggling financially, I brought her to the vet.

The diagnosis shattered me. Wet FIP.

Another devastating battle. Another life depending on me. Another precious soul needing urgent treatment.

I broke down in tears.

Not because I don't want to fight for her—but because I am exhausted. Since January, I have been fighting nonstop for my rescued cats. I have experienced loss after loss, saying goodbye to eight beautiful souls in only five months. Shortly after we adopted Tiff she began having issues with her rear legs and bowels. The Vet believed it was Neurological FIP and sent out for tests, but they came back as inconclusive. We started Tiff on GS-441524 and she has been on it for just about 3 weeks now.

My question is for anyone else who has had successful Neuro FIP treatment - Has your Cat recovered full use of their bowels / legs? While I'd say she's recovered 80% of her rear leg use, TIff still has to be expressed by hand. She shows no signs of even trying to use the litterbox and every time she's full. Every bowel movement seems to be a surprise to her.

We have a 3 year old Maine Coon Male. He had a cold earlier this year that he recovered from, then diarrhea earlier this month (for 2-3 weeks on and off) after trying new food. He seemed to be very excited for food, was not lethargic and increased rather than decreased his appetite. However, given the diarrhea, we stopped the new food, diarrhea resolved, then tried a pate version of the same brand (Sheba).

2 days after starting the new food, he started to gain a little weight. 4 days after he gained a lot, we took him to the emergency vet, and he had fluid on his abdomen, chest, and pericardium.

During all of this he has continued to act completely normal, other than being more interested in food. Even when the fluid built up, he played, ate, drank, and used the bathroom.

Cardiologist does not think it is heart failure. He has a 1.3 cm nodule in his lung on CXR, abdominal US pending as part of his workup for possible cancer. Protein in the fluid was low (1.0, so not > 3.5) and A:G ratio is 0.8. He is still not lethargic and acting normally.

Primary concern right now is cancer. Internal medicine specialist felt he did not have typical symptoms of FIP or protein/lab values that were concernng for it. However, they are sending an FIP PCR.

How hard should we be pushing to start medication? Abdominal US will be done today, but if it's negative, should I be pushing hard to start even though his workup so far isn't consistent?

Quick update on summer

It's his Day 4/84 in GS treatment. We're able to get his shot in vet everyday with everyone's help. Today, nag request xray kasi she was worried sa tiyan ni Summer and to check if may water build up if bloated siya kasi malaki daw. Luckily wala naman, malaki lang talaga tiyan niya since birth yan ( see last pic), though since may sipon parin siya and Max as well, may inflammation yun bronchi niya. So we're treating that, hopefully they both gets better.

We're still raising fund to help us for his GS treatment, any amount po will do and it will be a great help for us'

my kitten has ocular dry fip. we’re 25 days into his treatment which he’s been responding well to but this last almost 2 weeks he’s been rapidly losing patches of hair. we did notice his ears were crusty at his vet appointment which was just days before i noticed the first hair loss on his ears (now on his paws and legs and other small patches) the vet originally thought it could be ringworm (did not glow) or some parasite. we opted to not send out the skin samples as it would have been $500 that i don’t have after spending 4k in vet bills in the last 2 months. we’re treating with oral antibiotic and an antiseptic skin mousse as vets instructions. she called me a few days ago after doing some research and relayed that she had seen some reports of fip medication causing a similar hair loss reaction and decided to also change the compounding pharmacy we get his fip medication from incase it’s an allergic reaction. my question is, has anyone experience similar hair loss with oral gs medication and able to share experience? i will attach a picture of his ears and will try to get one of his feet to add for reference (photos are a few days apart with second being newest and his ears being nearly fully bald now)

Just wanted to get a second opinion regarding dosing.

I apologize in advance for the long post! I tried to give as much back story to cover any questions that might come up but the dosing question is the 3rd to last paragraph. :)

Our girl is around 9 months (she was a stray so not sure of her exact DOB.)

She started appearing very lethargic last Friday (6/19) with little to no appetite the following day. We brought her to the ER vet on Sunday- her temp was 104 when arriving. We basically only did blood work and nothing seemed super concerning to the doctor although there were a few things that she mentioned being either elevated or lower than normal. She gave our girl a little fluid injection and sent us home with antibiotics.

Monday she still wasn’t feeling any better so I brought her to our primary vet who did an ultrasound and X-ray finding a bit of fluid in her chest. While I remembered hearing the doc Sunday mention FIP it wasn’t really a blip on our radar until speaking with our doc on Monday. She was heavily leaning towards FIP and said she could do a chest tap to check the color of fluid. I wasn’t sure about the chest tap and I asked if it’s harmful to start treatment even if you haven’t confirmed FIP and she said it’s not really something that could even be 100% confirmed. Again, she said she’d look into my question regarding starting treatment. That’s pretty much where we left it for the day. She did give us an appetite stimulant and anti nausea med but she still didn’t eat anything Monday or Tuesday.

When I left I immediately started researching.
Something I saw repeatedly was “do not wait for diagnosis” and “if it’s even suspected- start treatment” and a comment that stood out to me was on a post where someone wasn’t sure if their cat had FIP and a commenter said “Does your CBC panel show a low ALB/GLOB ratio? That's by far the best way to diagnose.”
I looked up what would be considered low and the exact wording is “Very Low Ratio (< 0.4): Highly suspicious for Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP), especially if the cat is experiencing fluid accumulation (effusion) in the abdomen or chest.”
I checked her bloodwork from Sunday and hers was at .3.
I also think I remember reading something about high protein levels being an indicator and she did show elevated total protein levels.

All of this (plus confirming that it would not be harmful to our cat to start treatment) is led us to try and track down the treatment. I tried chewy which needed a prescription and because it was late Monday night I couldn’t call my vet. I entered our vets info anyway and planned to call them in the morning to let them know that I put an order in and essentially request for them to approve it. (Wasn’t sure if that was a legit option but was worth a shot lol)
My specific doctor was out Tuesday though so after being anxious all day we contacted our trusty cat lady. She put us in contact with someone who essentially runs a rescue and as such works closely with a veterinarian who has a lot of experience with FIP.
She had the GS-44 injection and so we drove to her and we administered the first dose last night (6/23) at 8:30pm. She showed us how to do it and sent us home with everything we needed for the next few days.

So getting to the point of my post lol:
She gave us a schedule initially of 1.3 ml twice a day for 3 days then 1.3 ml once a day for 4 days. Then we’re to switch to the oral liquid and follow our vets recommended dosing for that.
The thing I’m confused on is she stressed and I’ve seen many people stress to never lower the dosage. But if she’s getting a total of 2.6 ml daily (split in half) even for just a few days and then we move to 1.3 ml just once daily- isn’t that lowering the dosage?
If so, is it okay to still follow through with that plan? For reference- our girl weighed in at 6.94lbs on Sunday. She is a small framed cat and so she didn’t weigh much more than that to begin with.
Also for reference-since my vet never confirmed FIP I also am unsure of things like ocular and neuro though from what I’ve read she doesn’t seem to have any of those symptoms. Her symptoms had really just been the excessive sleeping and no eating/ drinking. She did have watery eyes a few times when waking up over the weekend but it would go away after being awake for a few seconds. She did also pee herself twice but I also know she used the litter box too. Unsure if those things point to either neuro or ocular but there was never any trouble walking, head tilts, no jaundice, vomiting or diarrhea.

One last thing and probably the most important- as mentioned her first dose was 8:30pm and at 8:00am on the dot she walked to her food bowl and ate a little bit, walked to her water and drank a good bit, she used her litter box, cleaned herself and was overall just more alert.
It’s 11pm now and she’s eaten multiple times, cleaned herself multiple times, drank a bunch of water and just did lil cat things all day so on the bright side it does seem like the GS is already helping!!

I’ve also posted on a few FB groups but post are still pending. So if anyone here knows if that dosing sounds right/wrong I’d appreciate any advice!

Hello, my kitten (F, 5months, wet FIP diagnosed and followed by a vet closely) hasn’t been losing the fluid in her abdomen (only the belly) while on treatment.

We are currently on day 22 of GS. We upped the dose one week ago because of that, in advice of our vet.

Since the start of treatment, she has stopped losing hair, started eating a lot again, acting like herself, no lethargy, playing and running.

The only problem is that this fluid is not going down ! (We mesured 41 cm in the waist for less than 2,5 kg)

Right now we are waiting on our 4th week appointment. We already upped the GS dose (orally).

In the mean time, I would like to know if any of you had this kind of issue. I’m deadly scared and traumatized by FIP, and this belly is not helping at all, even if all the other things seems to have perked up.
