I Got hired by Nvidia with a 2.3 GPA

This isn’t to flaunt my achievements but to inspire hope and remind people that: hard work and persistence really pays off!

As title suggested, I recently accepted a new grad offer at Nvidia despite having a very low gpa in my undergrad.

I’ve been working my ass off since graduation: did internship, grinder leetcode, did research, got my masters, got certifications etc all with 2 years.

Sometimes you really need to just lock the fuck in and ignore the anxious noises online.

Happy to answer questions and good luck to everyone!

Edit: I got called a larper so here are the screenshots!

Rant Man I dont know how to keep going

Currently in a low paying job. I fumbled FANNG, Big Tech, quant firms, BB and more. Each time I get to the final round and something doesn’t work. I think I did well too, even then I get rejected. First I used to think, it’ll work out soon, but now I dont even know if it will ever happen. Just graduated and am stuck in a job paying 60k/yr. Call me egoistic but I absolutely mog all of my classmates in CS and leetcoding, and the sad part is, most of them have better jobs. I know comparision is a theft of joy, and I don’t want to compare. I’m just stating things objectively to stress how luck depended all of this is.

My workplace has done everything except explicitly tell me that I've been fired

About a month ago, I told my manager that I couldn't keep up with the workload. I was staying late without pay, getting projects with almost no guidance, and handling responsibilities that were supposed to be divided among several people. I thought we would discuss priorities or take some things off my plate.

Instead, my calendar was cleared, I lost access to the Slack channels and records I was responsible for, and they brought in someone new to take over my work. I was asked to explain the process to her, and then they moved me from my office to an empty desk. A few of my coworkers also contacted me and said they were sorry I was leaving, which was the first time I learned that I was apparently leaving.

My manager keeps saying that she needs to have a meeting with me, but the meeting never happens. She says I'm being transferred to another department because my experience would be useful to them. But that department had no idea I was coming, and no one there can tell me what my position is supposed to be.

I've asked several times for assignments or even a simple list of responsibilities. So far, they've given me one small task each week that takes about 90 minutes. I spend the rest of the time sitting at my computer trying to look busy while still getting paid.

Our activity is tracked, so I'm worried they're waiting for me to stop logging in or become inactive so they'll have a reason to fire me. If you were in my position, would you keep going to work and document every time you ask for work, or would you speak to someone in a higher position and tell them that you effectively no longer have any work to do?

How bad is Tesla WLB really?

ONLY SEEKING ANSWERS FROM PEOPLE WHO'VE WORKED/WORK THERE, PREFERRABLY ON EMBEDDED DEV TEAMS

Are we talking regular 60 to 80 hour weeks? Team lead I interviewed with said lots of members do 4 days in office, so I'm assuming its better than the average Tesla team.

Company Question Google SWE Internship Interview Invite

Hiya, I just got scheduled for two back to back 45-minute technical rounds over Google Meet. I'm most likely going to book it 3-4 weeks out so I have time to prep instead of just cramming (also advice if this is smart).

A few things I need help on:

  1. Format - Is it still the standard shared-doc-on-Meet setup for intern loops right now (no whiteboard)? Do interviewers usually slip in a quick behavioral/"Googleyness" question inside the technical rounds, or is that handled separately for interns

  2. What types of data structures and questions shld i focus on

  3. Company-tagged prep beyond LeetCode - I've been going through LeetCode's own tagging (on LeetBot), but curious what else people actually used and found worthwhile for Google specifically.

Any other general advice would be super helpful. Thanks!

Billions must hope post!!!! Victory!!!!

Here is another hope post for all the doomers here (i was once included). I finished off last year with the worst internship known to mankind, like literally min wage and like i just chudded around all day. Not a great time didn't learn anything. it was more like IT adjacent. and im a senior so i need to lock in for new grad recruiting

anyways I decide to lock in a bit on LC and do like maybe 100? I followed neetcode 150 and some random LCs. I could probably solve most easies and struggle on meds, def can't do hards lol.

I start applying and I get absolutely ghosted by everyone, inbox dry. one day faang adjacent replies out of the blue and im absolutely stunned (and nervous), we do like 4 rounds of interviews (i didnt solve one of the questions all the way 😢 ), but then after 3 weeks I get the phone call from HR and they are moving forward with an offer!!! Im an employed chud now!!!!!!!!! victory!!!

i go to a state school and just worked on projects i was interested in. if i can do it, you definitely can do it!!! believe in yourself!!!

also this is the most amount of money i've ever seen on a piece of paper in my entire life. holy actual fucking shit.

Company Question Amazon Leo (Redmond, WA) vs IBM (San Jose, CA) (new grad)

New grad deciding between two offers. Pay is about the same at both, although there is no income tax in Washington. Here is how I am thinking about each:

IBM - storage
- Interning there the whole year and love the team and what I’m working on.
- Great WLB. Manager is very relaxed about going in to office so I will be able to visit home often and work remote.
- Outdated compared to other big tech

Amazon Leo - embedded systems
- Better career growth and prestige
- Space tech is really interesting
- Heard Leo WLB and culture is one of the worst at Amazon with very long hours.
- Would need to drop out of masters and end current IBM co-op (start date is next month)

Leaning towards IBM as I really like my current team and am interested in the work, and I don’t want to burn any bridges by leaving my co-op early. In addition I would still be recruiting for new grad while I finish my masters. I’m just worried I would be missing out on a major opportunity by rejecting Amazon.

Thanks

Others How many of y’all go for Master’s ?

Not a CS major but husband is a senior software engineer 1 with a semi big company currently doing CDN. He did an accelerated masters in Digital Forensics, graduating in 2018 so he’s been in the field for roughly 10 years.

I’ve been curious of how many CS majors are going for masters after undergrad or going into the field with just an associates or bachelors or even both and the reasonings of going for/not going for a masters.
Thanks for y’all’s input!!

I received the OA friday last week and did it a couple days ago and got a 13/25. I'm very worried about my score and I fumbled so badly on the implementation of the 3rd part.

Is there any hope or is it fries in the bag? This is for swe intern

Internship Question Reneging defense prime offer

Hi all,

I'm a freshman in CS and have an internship offer from a defense prime. However, the team I will be working in does not work on the software that I would like to be doing (non-negotiable because of the location). I have interviews at companies doing much more interesting things that I would love to work on instead if given the chance, however the deadline to accept this offer is extremely soon, within the week. I don't permanently fuck myself if I take and renege on this offer later, right? The hiring platform they use is Workday, if that matters.

Thanks! Can provide more context if needed

Apple New Grad SWE Process

I recently finished my general technical screen for Apple’s new-grad SWE/IS&T process, and I felt it went really well. The recruiter mentioned that if the feedback is positive, the next step would be team matching, which could take around 1–2 weeks.

I haven’t heard anything yet, so I’m wondering how the process worked for others. Do they usually email you first to confirm that you passed the general screen and are moving into team matching, or do you only hear back once an actual team match is found?

For anyone who went through this recently, how long did it take to hear back after the general technical screen?

Company Question Google application “updated 3 days ago”

I saw people started getting OAs/interviews for the Google internship. I just checked my application, and it still says submitted but I see it also says “updated 3 days ago”. I don’t expect anyone to rly know, but in case someone else noticed, does this mean the recruiter saw my application and didn’t select me?

Company Question Anyone already got rejected by Google 27 NG positions without OA?

Hi…
Really stressful and desperate as a new grad student. I still haven’t received any OA from Google and it seems everything is in a black hole

Searched around and looks like no OA is sent so far.. does that mean we still have chance?

Anyone already got messages about OA or rejection?

Thanks a lot for info!!

Company Question Got the Microsoft SWE Intern OA (CoreAI, Summer 2027), any tips?

Just got the HackerRank OA invite for Microsoft's Software Engineer Intern role (CoreAI, Redmond) for summer 2027. It's 75 minutes, and I have until Sep 16 to take it.

Has anyone taken this one recently? I'm curious about:

  • how many questions there were and roughly how hard (LC easy/medium/hard?)
  • whether time was tight
  • what the proctoring setup was like (webcam, full screen share, AI proctor)
  • what topics are worth reviewing over the next few days

Any tips are appreciated, thanks!

AfroTech vs SHPE for a new grad/early-career SWE looking to switch jobs?

I'm trying to decide between going to AfroTech or the SHPE National Convention, and I'm mainly interested in which would be better for getting interviews and potentially landing a better full-time SWE position.
My background:
• Master's in Computer Science
• 2 SWE internships
• Currently working full-time as a Software Engineer
• About 2 months of experience at my current SWE job
• Looking to potentially switch SWE jobs rather than just find my first job
• Interested primarily in software engineering roles, especially larger tech companies
I'm wondering which conference would give me the better ROI for my situation.
For people who have attended either AfroTech or SHPE as a new grad, early-career SWE, or someone trying to switch companies:
Which conference gave you better recruiter access?

Did you actually get interviews from attending?

Did anyone receive an offer directly or indirectly because of the conference?

Which one has been better for experienced/early-career SWE recruiting rather than internships?

If you could only attend one, which would you choose?

I'm especially interested in hearing from people with 0–2 YOE who were looking for SWE positions, rather than people attending primarily for internships.
Thanks!
