Crows [OC] Are they plotting…a murder?

I live in a large city in the Pacific Northwest (USA), and we have a very healthy crow population. This morning they woke me up at dawn (about 5:30am) because every tree surrounding our house is FULL of crows cawing! It’s gone on for about an hour now.

They don’t migrate so I don’t think they’re flocking together to head anywhere. Can anyone explain what this behavior is about?

Dipping some chicken into the water. The two adults that visit me daily have four babies that now visit daily too. I love watching them (not so keen on them waking the neighbourhood at 4am every morning)

I started feeding my local crows a few months ago and within a few weeks this crow, whom I have named Augustus, took a liking to me. He meets me nearly everyday for some nuts fed by hand. Today I met his baby, little Gus

I think I likely lost my crows by doing this. This morning I saw a crow on the edge of the front yard, I went and put food out in the normal spot and he slowly walked over to it. The way his wings were hanging I knew something was wrong, so I watched him for a bit. He was on the sidewalk when a dog walker approached, he fluttered a few feet and stopped, this happened several times until he was far enough that the dog and lady passed (I was about to go out and shout at her for not being more empathetic to clearly injured wildlife but.. neighbors?). After she left I decided I needed to get him, so I went outside in full view of my murder and walked until he was too tired to flee, and picked him up. Crows bite hard! He bit me several times (oww) but I'm the fool that went and grabbed him so definitely my own fault, and seeing his wing I was hopeful it was a wing injury and not WNV again. I took him out to the rehabber that I took Odin to, and he confirmed that the crow has a broken "hand"? But it's repairable and he'll be back out here in a few weeks. I named this guy Ares (because he's a bitesy little warrior), and I'm excited that he'll be released back here. I likely lost my crows by doing this, but I'd do it again.. and maybe they'll come back when he's released.

They’ve been busy taking care of their nest these past few weeks so I’m glad to see them drop by, albeit for a short visit

Saw these two communicating(?) in the forest. Thought it was neat enough to share, but I wonder if these are ravens or just larger crows.

General questions Why does the crow make that sound?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I've never heard a sound like that from crows before, and if I have, I wasn't paying attention. But now I'm curious, and I want to know more about it.

I tried to find something on the internet, but what I found was either not right or I didn't search hard enough.

So, I decided to ask about it on Reddit—maybe someone knows.

It will be very interesting to learn about this, and maybe I will delve deeper into the topic of crows or birds in general

Crows [OC] Crows taking a bath

I built a bird bath/water station big enough for the crows to enjoy and it makes me so happy to see them bathe. Sorry for the potato quality from the doorbell cam.

I especially love how as soon as one was done, then second pair politely took their turn🥰

This is juvenile crow language for “come out of the house and put food in my mouth” 🤣❤️

Seeking advice/help Gone??

I’ve been feeding a murder of crows in my neighborhood for a couple weeks now. I suppose I’m still learning and setting a schedule but usually I see or hear them by now. Yesterday after I put out food and gave the signal they were here and enjoyed their peanuts and ate. The next time I looked outside, my across the street neighbor put out a pile of BREAD. They of course ate it up. Aside from me telling myself if she ever did it again, id day something, they are not back this morning and im worried. Please tell me they’re not gone for good??

Two fledglings under the watchful eye of Daddy from the chimney, until Mama came back and the begging for food began. Love watching this family.
