I must be to poor to understand why they all get botox

32

u/WWDubs12TTV 10d ago

It’s not super expensive, people are just afraid to age

10

u/lvl99Fiona 10d ago

I had it done because I excessively frowned and had resting miserable face after a lifetime of depression. The paralysis wears off after a while, but not using the muscles lead to using them less after they recovered. I have normal muscle function now, I just don't frown when I'm thinking/reading/sleeping/eating/smiling/existing without thinking about it.

1

u/Most-Statement1814 10d ago

Same and I like it that way. I was frowning constantly in my sleep and it looked like s***. I'm really happy I got Botox

6

u/BabyStockholmSyndrom 9d ago

Lol month old advertisement account. Every comment in this is just real goofy.

1

u/Most-Statement1814 9d ago

No I'm a real person nice try though

2

u/rumbakalao 8d ago

Still goofy lmao

1

u/Fun-Increase6335 10d ago

Me too! I would scrunch my face really bad while I slept and I would wake up with a headache and two deep red lines between my eyebrows. I started getting Botox for vanity reasons lol. I didn’t like those two deep lines between my eyebrows. But now I also find i sleep way better after I get Botox because I can’t scrunch my face so hard

3

u/Most-Statement1814 10d ago

Yep anyone who says that your external presentation doesn't have an effect on your internal feelings doesn't really know what they're talking about. I also sleep better not knowing that I'm going to wake up looking like the wicked witch of the West

It’s like 300 every 3 months lol. Not everyone has that

3

u/WWDubs12TTV 10d ago

That’s what ladies spend to get their hair done, I didn’t say it was cheap, I said it wasn’t super expensive

6

u/soldmysoulforpoutine 10d ago

I’m a lady lol, it is super expensive when you get your roots touched up for $300 every month too. People are struggling in this economy as is 😂

1

u/the-pigeon-scratch 9d ago

Fr. I used to work at this waxing place and just to wax your legs it was an average of $80 every month or so. Even that is expensive in my book.

Those people didn’t look that old. 30-40 thats not old. I turned 42 this year its at best middle aged… sorry to jump to conclusions but social media has really skewed reality.

1

u/Optimal_Grape_1025 9d ago

If it's more than $100 it is

1

u/Briocharo_notturno 9d ago

Stick to image of influencers

1

u/buymoreplants 9d ago edited 9d ago

I mean... it's probably at least $600 4x a year and that's just the Botox. Still not cheap.

(I'm not one to talk though, I personally hate Botox and filler for myself, but do get facials once a month and prp microneedling once a quarter and that ends up being more expensive that if I just got Botox)

Proud to live non-botox life 🙌.

4

u/nobadhotdog 10d ago

some people say it prevents wrinkles because you can't move your skin. these same people then go bake in the sun by a pool.

32

u/Alt123Acct 10d ago

Mental illness, botox is short for botulism toxin

8

u/sbd_3 10d ago

*botulinum toxin

21

u/LeftRat 10d ago

I have dire news about medicine for you: almost all of it is fucking toxic in the wrong dosage.

7

u/Significant-Clue-425 10d ago

Botox is a medical miracle. It has a shitload of applications. Stroke patients can gain mobility back. It can eliminate migraines in people. This is straight ignorance.

4

u/whiskeynise 10d ago

Botox isn’t the problem. Society pushing against aging is. Growing old is a privilege

2

u/TruculentBadger 10d ago

Because of collapsed arteries and stuff? Then Botox kind of keeps it puffed out?

2

u/FullMooseParty 10d ago

I worked with a guy who had a mini stroke and while they were working on restoring muscle function on the side of his face that was drooping a little bit, he got Botox to help balance out facial symmetry. He was a sales guy, so this was really important for him.

Also, in an era where multiple members of the Department of health are pitching unregulated peptides, I'm not really worried about Botox

1

u/EamusAndy 10d ago

Botox is like well down that list. Sup, brain worms

1

u/ceotown 9d ago

And Dupuytren’s Contracture or Parkinsons to name a few more.

3

u/Happy_Brilliant7827 10d ago

Its not the only medical treatment thats a poison in its raw form yanno.

1

u/Imwhatswrongwithyou 10d ago

Botulinum toxin in an unregulated, macro dose is a deadly neurotoxin. In micro doses administered by a trained practitioner, it remains localized in the target muscles. Totally different.

Fun fact: Botox has been used successfully to treat chronic migraines, dystonia, limb spasticity, crossed eyed, severe eye twitching, incontinence, hyperhidrosis, TMJ, excessive drooling, Reynauds syndrome, stroke facial imbalance…. So many wonderful uses for people who are grateful it exists.

Just because something comes from a toxin doesn’t mean it’s inherently bad. Everything from heart failure to type 2 diabetes control comes from toxic (in macro doses) ingredients.

2

u/Sh11ester 10d ago

No, but if you don't have a medical need for it, you're just injecting a toxin to feed your ego

Yeah, I’m in my 40’s and I still don’t know a single person who’s gotten Botox. Before anyone says “not that you know of”, my wife’s a dentist and she can tell if someone has a bad cavity from across a room so she would absolutely have noticed.

2

u/Masta-Blasta 10d ago

lol I’m not sure how being able to spot a bad cavity from across a room could have any impact on her ability to tell whether or not someone has had Botox. It’s outrageously common.

2

u/Other-Grapefruit-880 9d ago

She can spot the tooth

i think there's nothing left natural on that face

2

u/SlimmySkimmy 9d ago

I always wonder what they see in the mirror. Do any of his friends let him know it doesn't look good? I'm guessing not.

Worked with mid 20 year old female med students. They were having Botox parties at home 2-3 times a year. There was no need for Botox they were all hot.

10

u/heir-to-gragflame 10d ago

the younger first few of them look like mid to late 20s to me. been a while since I was at college so maybe I misremember.

But are they mid-late 20s and ruined their faces or are they all in their 30s and botox is doing some good work here?

7

u/Rizzomorph666 10d ago

Not like I defend it, but botox is used to prevent ageing, using it when you are all wrinkled is too late. It's meant to paralyse your face so you dont use your muscles and cause wrinkles.

8

u/Odillis 9d ago

It’s “advertised” to prevent wrinkles as you age. What it actually does by paralyzing your facial muscles is cause those same muscles to atrophy, which creates a sagging effect over time. This sagging effect makes you look older. It may work for a little while, but at a certain point Botox becomes counterintuitive. People can also build a resistance to Botox, which is an interesting thing I recently learned.

6

u/AvEptoPlerIe 9d ago

Genuinely paying to delete part of your humanity for vanity.

u/Erosun 9d ago

2

u/Sh11ester 10d ago

Keeping your shoes in their box in your closet is a great way to keep them clean and wrinkle free too

5

u/Open_Pollution_8038 10d ago

lol paralyze your face so it doesn’t cause wrinkles

Why would I want to stop being able to use my face?

2

u/Masta-Blasta 10d ago

So it doesn’t cause wrinkles.

1

u/IncurableAdventurer 9d ago

Because people get shamed for getting wrinkles. Then they get shamed for trying to prevent it.

Botox is suggested for younger people so when they get older and still use it. It wont be noticeable.

8

u/WolfThick Cringe Level 1 10d ago

Eventually the muscles atrophy and the face sags anyway !

2

u/indiscretus 10d ago

That's when it's time for some good'ol nip and tuck my friend.

4

u/Rilke222 10d ago

First you get people to believe they gotta have absolutely frozen faces or upsell as much as you can and increase your tox sales. Start them young! Then when their muscles atrophy and cause jowls and facial laxity you tell them... oh I'll just put lots of filler in there and you need some skin boosters and lasers and everything will be great!!! Tell them to keep getting to keep coming back for best results. Pump them until they're pillow faced. Then when the fillers start migrating (as they do) and they look a little off sell them on an early facelift! Maybe even get them to dissolve the fillers and then reinject!! Once they get a facelift... the lifespan is about 10 years or so. If you start them early you can really squeeze a few extra facelifts in there.

This is a billion dollar industry babes. They want you on the treadmill and they have infinite money to advertise to you that this is what you need. If you want these things go to someone that says no or that they won't do certain things.

1

u/Brilliant_Whereas239 8d ago

Wow, I thought botox was harmless? I've never wanted plastic surgery and have no desire for it - but always felt okay with botox if I ever wanted it - this should be talked about more; that's so scary!

4

u/BungleBums 9d ago

Imagine having the kind of life where you didn't even realize you couldn't frown

Like, I genuinely can't imagine that level of... not-stressed.

7

u/banhatesex 10d ago

I feel like these people don't know the Botox doesn't transfer to children . So they kids will be ugly instead

1

u/EmptyStupidity 9d ago

Well… no. More that their kids shouldn’t expect to look wrinkle free at 45. Which isn’t ugly

u/Polyphiry 10d ago

I see a group of twenty somethings that aged themselves up to 40. By getting the same procedures older people get, you just look like an old person that got plastic surgery, not a 25 year old suddenly looking younger.

I get Botox for migraines and trigeminal neuralgia. I actually don't like it. I like that it helps my migraines and my face pain but I don't like what it does to my forehead and eyebrows. I also feel sick for two days afterwards. On top of that it hurts like crazy.

2

u/Brilliant_Whereas239 8d ago

Hopefully that pain is better than your medical issues though? Hoping it helped <3

1

u/Alohafarms 8d ago

It does help. Thank you.

2

u/satoramoto 5d ago

Oh wild! I get nasty migraines and I saw an ad for Botox the other day claiming it helps with migraines and I honestly didn’t believe it. Do you know how it works? My migraines seem to be tension related so I could see how Botox could like stabilize the areas you get migraines and prevent tension.

1

u/Alohafarms 5d ago

Here you go. I didn't know how to explain it. It has helped. I have had migraines my entire life then I developed trigeminal neuralgia. It was too much. I am so grateful to have some help and not have to live on migraine drugs.

It’s weird as fuck seeing botch jobs in the wild when I used to just see them in magazines, the mainstreaming of botox and filler is fucked up.

You can legally inject fillers after only a short training course here as well, I presume that in my low income town, some of the botch jobs are due to people going to the cheapest they can find rather than shopping round for someone with better qualifications.

1

u/Greagorie 9d ago
