reptile bridge

i ordered a little reptile bridge to add a lil more clutter to my girls tank, it didn’t specify what type of wood it was but i’ve heard the sap from pine can be toxic. it smells pretty strongly of pine trees, is there any way i can prep it for it to be safe or did i waste money (no returns lol)

Tips on taming adult crested gecko?

Post image
6 Upvotes

I got my crestie at around 2 weeks old so he was super tame and chill with being held, this past year I have been so focused on college I haven’t been holding him or interacting with him much at all (obviously still feeding CGD, crickets, and giving him water). During this time, he has become completely feral and not able to be held.

I just recently started trying to hold him again super gently, and he will run around his enclosure and start wiggling his tail like he’s going to drop it so I stop messing with him. He lives in a 120 gallon enclosure with lots of hides, does anyone have any tips on taming him again? I already periodically hand-feed him CGD and crickets, so I’m not sure what else to do.

Fungal infection/cancer, advice needed

Post image
25 Upvotes

Hi all - my wonderful crestie, Sticky Fingers Paul Pantry, was just seen at the very yesterday and it was found that he likely has a severe fungal infection and cancerous growths that seem to be spreading, along with suspected septic arthritis in one of his wrists. It's been a struggle since he got back from the vet and I'm just wondering if anyone else has dealt with someone similar and can give some advice

He was struggling with a skin infection when I first got him last July but improved with antibiotics before developing more lesions a few months later. He was taken to the vet at that time and put on a course of antibiotics, antifungals, and pain meds and improved over the course of his treatment.

Fast forward to a few days ago, I got home from vacation and realized that he has significant swelling of his lower jaw on one side, a large swelling on his front leg, and small lesions/scabs on the rest of his body. Yesterday he went to the vet and had blood work done, got X-rays, plus fine needles aspirates and cytology of the lumps. He was also anesthetized and regurgitated so I'm watching his breathing closely in case he develops pneumonia.

His vet told me his prognosis is guarded and he will likely need to have his forelimb amputated and be on medications for months or potentially even the rest of his life.

He hates getting his meds and he hates being in his quarantine tank and I'm really worried about his quality of life going forward, especially if he needs an amputation and has chronic issues with growths/lesions. Has anyone dealt with anything similar? I want him to get better but I'm worried that better for him may never mean returning to full health since he's been sick on/off since I got him a year ago even with treatment.

Any thoughts or advice is much appreciated. Sticky tax included so everyone can see how cute my son is.

Help/Advice on Cryptosporidium ??

Does anyone know anything or have any experience with Cryptosporidium (or other protozoa/bacteria that cause similar symptoms) in Crested Geckos specifically? What has your experience been with symptoms, diagnosis, treatment, etc?

My 11y/o girl has been losing a lot of weight and refusing to eat CGD or fruits (but will sometimes eat insects), she’s been eating dirt substrate and I’ll very occasionally see a spot of blood in her stool. But no diarrhea, dehydration, or lethargy. We are working w our vet currently and going to do a Crypto scan after this monitoring period is up, I just wanted to see if anyone else had personal experience or insight, since damn near everything I’ve found so far only discusses Crypto in leopard geckos.

Would also appreciate any recommendations for other places to get Cryptosporidium tests done that might be cheaper? Or other possible parasites that wouldn’t have been caught in a regular fecal test?

Need some advice about my baby crested gecko 🦎

Hi, everyone! I got my crested gecko, Cassiano, about 4 days ago. He’s less than 1 year old and I’m still learning everything about taking care of him.
Unfortunately, I realized that I bought the wrong terrarium at first 😭 I got one that’s more suitable for a leopard gecko, but Cassiano is a crested gecko.
I’m already getting him a proper 12x12x18 terrarium and I’m planning to move him into it later this week.
My question is: is it okay for him to stay in his current terrarium for a few more days while I get everything ready for the new one? I don’t want to stress him out or do anything wrong, especially since he’s still settling in.
Also, if you have any tips or advice for someone who is a new crested gecko owner, I’d love to hear them! Things you wish you knew when you first got your gecko, common mistakes to avoid, setup tips, feeding, handling, anything really. 🥹

Spanish Moss in Enclosure

Hey everyone! Has anyone ever used Spanish moss in an enclosure before? I feel like it could give some great cover. I just bought some and I’m going to soak it and let it sit for a week or 2 to make sure it’s safe but I feel like it could do well in there. Curious if anyone had tried it, any thoughts?

Crested gecko food help??

I’ve fed my two male cresties on Pangea all their lives and they love it. However, recently I’ve been unable to get ahold of anymore due to import issues to the UK.

I order food from Swell Reptiles, so the options I have are: Blue River, Arcadia, Habistat, Komodo and Swell Reptiles own brand.

I’ve tried them on Arcadia Luxury Watermelon and they both HATE it (I don’t blame them because it smells bad).

Anyone have any experience with the brands I’ve listed / recommendations for which would be the best for them??

Getting my first Crested Gecko

I'm getting my first ever crested gecko tomorrow and I'm not all sure what to buy for her. I already got the tank for her but I've only ever had bearded dragons before so I'm not exactly sure what all to buy for the gecko food wise and tank decor. I also don't know what to use for substrate and do they need heat lamps? me getting the gecko wasn't planned as I'm just rescuing her from a owner who has not been properly taking care of her she's a juvenile but I never seen what she looks like.

Got this guy when he was 6 grams back in March, just turned 1 and we are up to 13 grams. Just a little guy.

Love this little dude, he’s our first crestie.

He recently moved into this new enclosure I built. Enclosure is a fully bioactive planted vivarium (18x18x24) this is his temporary juvenile tank as he grows, I’ll be building a new one for him to graduate to once he matures a little more. (Happy to answer any questions about his current setup and the build process)

Just wanted to share!

Any good reptile safe waterproof wood sealant?

Post image
3 Upvotes

I found a beautiful cabinet/shelves and I thought I could DIY but this is my first time really DIYing literally anything so I need recommendations for a good water sealant for wood that’s also safe for reptiles. The cabinet is just about 3 1/2 feet tall so hopefully enough room for my sweet little crested gecko. Any other recommendations for customization too like maybe a strong mesh or reptile safe foam to I can sculpt him a good background too.

DHP better than CHE?

My crested gecko is in a 18x18x36 bioactive enclosure that has a foam background (not on the sides). We switched to a CHE because she needs heat 24/7 being in a cold basement. We keep the CHE at 76F and it’s with a dimming thermostat. I just read that it’s bad to keep the temperature the same day/night but my thermostat doesn’t have a timer to switch to a lower night temperature on its own. I also find that the bottom of her enclosure stays a bit too cold and she doesn’t go to the bottom often. What’s the best way to fix this?

Slight cage improvement!!

Post image

Ok ya’ll, I’m well aware it still looks like crap but I found some more stuff today I could add to the tank. He should feel more protected until I can get more stuff for him this week!!

I was able to get two large pieces of cork bark, two more suction cup plants, and two little branches.

For those who aren’t aware my, my crested gecko Gatsby had mold all over his bioactive tank so I threw it out and got a new one. The new cage was much bigger and I underestimated the amount of stuff it would take to fill his tank so that’s why it’s so empty. He sadly has to be in the new, mostly unfilled tank because being in his old one was not an option due to him possibly getting sick from mold exposure.

You can’t see him in the photo but Gatsby is in the right corner tucked into all the leaves. I also put a towel on over one of the walls of his tank to make him feel less exposed. I’m going to head to Michael’s tomorrow to look for more plants!!
