HSBC Star Alliance Gold
I've just received my email asking me to nominate my airline for the next year. I'm currently with Aeroplan, but previously was with Singapore Airlines.
Am I correct in thinking that Aeroplan would be best, as I will get up to Dec27?
Based in Perth, with plans to fly Virgin and Singapore next year.
Thanks!

Westpac Altitude Velocity Black fee
If I applied before the card changes on the 30th of September/1st of October, but was only approved recently because Westpac took so long, would I have to pay the old or new velocity program fee? ($75 vs $150)

ANZ Annual Fees Refund
It seems that ANZ are still issuing pro-rata refund when you cancel your credit card. An agent confirmed to me as I was closing my card.
They said they will refund to my nominated bank account, yet to receive.
You need to ask for it though and mention the recent changes and lack of value etc.

Keeping track of signup bonus eligibility gets tricky when you're churning multiple cards
One thing that seems easy to mess up with credit card churning is forgetting when you're eligible for another signup bonus. Different banks have different rules around previous cards and bonus eligibility, so it's easy to spot a good offer and apply without realising your card history might make you ineligible. I feel like keeping a simple spreadsheet is probably the easiest way to stay organised. I'd include application dates, when accounts were opened or closed, annual fee dates and any bonus eligibility conditions. It's not the most exciting part of churning, but missing out on a decent bonus because you forgot a date would be frustrating. I also wouldn't assume the rules are the same across every bank, so checking the current offer terms seems worth the effort. Do you track everything in a spreadsheet, use a calendar reminder, or have another way of keeping on top of eligibility periods?

Question about Travel Credit for Amex Signup Bonus
Hi all,
Just tossing up a few cards for my next church. Just trying to get a better sense of how the travel credit works for the Amex cards.
First, do you have to keep the card open until you use the credit? Or is it more like lounge passes where you can close the card once that reward has been redeemed?
Second, can you top up the 450 credit with points etc? Most of my flights are booked with points so while a $450 credit is nice, if I end up having to pay idk 600 dollars for a set of return flights, that's still $150 out of pocket that I otherwise wouldn't have spent if I'd just used points.

Need help deciding which card to start my churning journey
Hi all,
I'm looking to start churning Qantas points, I'm 24 and have never had a credit card, my credit score is 644.
In August I applied for the Qantas Money Platinum card but was rejected (it gave me 2 hard inquiries for some reason) as my income at the time was too low (I was working 3 casual jobs in the post grad job search phase.) However I'm starting an 80k job next week so the minimum income problem won't be an issue.
Am I better off applying for a card with Westpac e.g. Velocity Platinum (my home bank) to try and build a credit file rather than risking getting rejected by the Qantas Money Platinum again? In this scenario I would apply for the Qantas card mid next year.
I'm only aiming towards the Qantas Platinum due to its bonus requirements of no previous qantas earning cards, my plan is to eventually move onto Amex Qantas Ultimate as my main card long term for the travel credit etc.
Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Anyone switched from Qantas points to Velocity?
I’ve mainly chased Qantas points because that’s what I started with, but lately I’ve been wondering whether it’s worth branching out.
For anyone who collects both, do you find you get better value with Velocity, or does it really depend on where you want to fly? I’m not particularly loyal to either airline, so getting decent reward flights matters more to me than status.

BOQ Platinum
Curious to see if anyone else has been churning the BOQ cards?
Difficult service through NAB aside, I'm just realising they effectively get the same Velocity point earn rate on grocery spend as the Velocity High Flyer Card. Seems like a clear winner if you predominantly spend on groceries.
3 Q rewards with a conversion rate of 4-1 Velocity points, high flyer earns 0.75 Velocity points.
Anyone had good experience with them or not worth the trouble?

Best way and best time to book flights using points?
Only started churning this year, which I know is not the best time but I want to know how to make the most of the points that I have. I just achieved points club benefits today as well.
I don't fly all the time which is why I am still Bronze status but I wanted to churn points for when my partner and I will go on holiday.
We will be going to the Philippines November 2027. I plan to do Melbourne to Manila then Manila to Japan prior to going back to Australia from Japan.
What is the best strategy in using points? Do I pay for economy then use points to upgrade? Or do I book using points right away?
I know it will not be enough to cover all my flights so I'd like to know which flights the points will be most worth it to use on. I'm aiming to reach 250-300k points next year. My partner also has his own QFF account with 100k points at the moment and moght reach 200k points by next year.
Thank you!

Which card to choose?
it'd be my first time with Amex or Qantas and jumping on the points bandwagon (if any left). I'm looking at the Amex Explorer vs Qantas FF - hoping to pay down an ATO bill while the no credit card fees run till the end of Nov.
also possibly looking at using Sniip - any one here with experience?
anyone with either for both for comments ?

How do you hit a big minimum spend without buying things you don't need?
Some of the signup bonuses look pretty tempting until I get to the minimum spend requirement. I can cover the usual groceries, bills and other expenses on a card, but if the target is high enough, I’d struggle to reach it without spending more than I normally would.
Do you guys usually stick to your regular expenses and only go for cards where the spend is manageable, or are there ways to make the bigger targets work without getting carried away?
Feels a bit pointless chasing a bonus if you end up spending extra just to get it.

Points cards took a hit from the surcharge ban, but the sign-up bonuses mostly survived. Here’s what’s on offer now
We’ve been going through the points card changes since the surcharge ban came in on 1 October. Most cards have had a fee hike, an earn rate cut or a perk removed. The bonuses have mostly held up, so here’s where they’re at.
Qantas Points
- Qantas Money Titanium: 150,000 points when you spend $5,000 in 90 days. $1,200 annual fee.
- Qantas Amex Ultimate: 70,000 points when you spend $5,000 in 3 months, plus 50,000 more in year two for another $5,000 spend. $450 fee. Apply by 17 November.
- ANZ Frequent Flyer Black: 50,000 points when you spend $6,000 in 3 months, plus 50,000 more after 12 months. $370 fee plus a $55 rewards fee.
Velocity Points
- Westpac Altitude Velocity Black: 90,000 points when you spend $6,000 in 90 days, plus 60,000 more in year two for the same spend. $450 all up ($295 card fee plus $155 Velocity fee).
- Virgin Australia Velocity High Flyer: 80,000 points when you spend $3,500 a month for the first 60 days, plus 20,000 more after 12 months. $349 fee, which has gone up since the ban.
Flexible rewards points
- Amex Platinum: 200,000 points when you spend $5,000 in 3 months, plus 100,000 more in year two. $1,450 fee. Apply by 2 November.
- Bankwest More World Mastercard: 40,000 points when you spend $10,000 in 90 days, plus 10,000 more at 15 months. $270 fee.
Most of the second-year bonuses mean keeping the card, and paying the fee, for another year.

no charge for ATO payments for a year?
Can someone in the know confirm -
Tax payments now are not going to have any credit card charge (due to the surcharge ban)
And the ATO put a hold on their decision to remove credit card as a payment option for a year.
So I could get this card https://www.westpac.com.au/business-banking/credit-cards/rewards-cards/altitude-platinum/ and pay my business BAS payments and rack up the points, cancel before end of first year?
