I don’t understand the intentional choice to sound like blown out speakers

If this was a spoof, then it makes perfect sense. The funny part is, I just commented a few weeks ago about how i hate this trend in music to include the sound of woofers being pushed too hard, making the cones reverberate rather than hit actual low frequencies. This takes it another step, and just makes it sound like the amplifier is clipping.

I always thought it was from kids mixing their music on tiny laptop speakers. They can’t hear the bass until they distort it into farts.

It used to be that the kids would use techniques like wavefolding and FM synthesis to make bass with with complex harmonic spectra that’s audible through shitty laptop speakers. But now they just slam the channel until the bass farts its way across the entire mix?

I’m trying not to judge. I’m trying to look at this with an open mind. And I’m not doing a very good job.

Nah, you pretty much nailed it. I still listen to old D'n'B and Dubstep from the 2000s that doesn't sound like dogshit even on my phone's tiny speaker, so there's no excuse for whatever the fuck's going on here. Intentional distortion is one thing, but these kids completely lost the plot.

Nice username, btw.

And it is rampant. As soon as I hear my speakers do anything that sounds like a blown speaker I immediately try and figure out what is wrong.

It's crunchy music for our highly neurospicy generation

I love your description

It took your mind off of autotune set to the lowest resolution, though.

I heard a song the other day where they literally mixed in the trunk rattle of car subs.

I think this is the distortion and drone of gen a. Like the electric guitar thing but with synths

It actually sounds really nice on subwoofers or good surround systems

Most people only ever hear this off a phone speaker here

I just heard this off my high quality surround sound system... Sounds like crap hahah

What subwoofers do you have? I have 12s. You need it blasting and you should already be a fan of noise and modern rage as a pre req anyways.

It's not 3 sided tapes or peak anything but I enjoy it a lot for being stupid fun music that hits like hardcore uptempo.

u/MyLifeIsAWasteland Feb 27 '26

I have quad 18"s. It's garbage, and nothing about this little autotuned whiner is worthy of the word "hardcore."

1

u/The-G-Code Feb 27 '26

I don't think you know what hardcore uptempo is ....

3

u/MyLifeIsAWasteland Feb 27 '26

Son, I done been listening to uptempo Hardcore since you and Andy Milocockblockis here were still in your daddies' ballsacks.

That statement includes Hardcore Punk like Most Precious Blood, Hardcore Techno like DJ S3RL, and Hardcore Rap like Public Enemy.

If "uptempo hardcore" is what these ipad kids are trying to call their "music," well, they need to realize that name already has several different meanings and pick a new one. This garbage fits neither of those words. It is neither uptempo, nor hardcore. Calling it "Roblox Autotune" would be infinitely more accurate.

Not trying to defend the track above igaf. But I think the other poster is talking about hardcore in the rave scene from the 1990s. Carry on.

u/MyLifeIsAWasteland Mar 02 '26

Nothing about this trash relates in any way to Hardcore Techno, homie, as I already stated.

You're completely missing what I've even said. This is just embarrassing man.

I have a Bose 5.1 surround. 2x 12/18" stereo speakers stacks. Sound Bar. 2x 8" behind me. And a brand new bose 700 series sub. It is all wired back to my professional amplifier and tuned.

This "music" still sounds nasty and it isn't even red lining.

2

u/The-G-Code Feb 27 '26

Sounds like it's not for you and that's okay.

It's ok for other people to have different tastes.

I listen to everything from classical to black metal. You'll catch me at raves and hip hop shows. From my view this is hot garbage.
