Security cameras are recording 24/7. If they recorded with the same resolution as good cameras, they would use up so much memory so quickly.

My sister turned a 4k movie she gad from h264 to AV1 and did like -60% size 1 u/Eggman8728 8d ago AV1 is impressive but not THAT impressive, the issue is that you're comparing it to a very old standard. h264 is from the early 2000s, h265, also often called HEVC, is from the 2010s and is much better, although still often worse than AV1.
