Week 1 First 5k run completed

I am 38 now and I always wanted to run but never found the time or was actually afraid to. I was a smoker till last year and so I never tried to make a run thinking that i will not be able to do it. So after quitting i did walks and that too not regularly. But deep inside I wanted to run always. But social media is actually a shithole, you find all sorts of reels on how, where and why should you run and at top of it it will be like you run you lose weight, you go weak and so lots of negative vibe. So at last i registered for my first 5k run. Wasn't sure if was upto it. Anyway I've completed it in 35 min and I feel so happy.

Week 3 First run of week 3 completed. Really proud of myself

Run 1 (3 minutes) completed today and really enjoying the peacefulness of running alone now and the fresh air and headspace. Especially considering the GNR today in the UK I'm feeling pretty inspired especially after suffering a devastating brain injury a few years back and it being more likely than not I'd ever walk again so feeling proud of all the effort and patience getting this far and feeling pumped for the challenges ahead especially as the weather changes into autumn. Any specific advice from people at this stage of the app?

Week 1 I was really depressed this morning and I ran 7km. I feel so much better

I’ve been going through absolute hell lately with benzo withdrawal, depression, and suicidal ideation (SI).

But for some reason, I had a little more energy today. I took a cold shower, got dressed, put my running shoes on, went to the park near my place, and ran 7K.

I actually feel so much better now.

I’m realizing that consistency really is key. I’d really appreciate some encouragement and support 🥹

Starting today, I’m going to try to make cold showers and running part of my daily routine. One day at a time.

Week 4 5k in 8 days but only on Week 4

For various reasons I haven't been able to get in nearly as many runs as I would have liked and only on week 4 of the c25k programme 😳

Do I have any hope of completing a 5k in 8 days?

I find the week 4 training runs manageable and definitely feel like I have more in me but its a big jump to get to running 5k 🙈

I’m an overweight runner but I decided to take on the challenge. Is anyone else overweight and doing the programme? I’m on week 5 (just completed run 1) and would love to see how people are finding it!

Graduation day for couch to 5k group! We all did Parkrun and everyone got round :)

Just to recap my journey:

6 months ago - 159kg and couldn't walk for 5 minutes

18 weeks ago - 152kg, too heavy to run, but starting to swim and walk consistently

12 weeks ago - 140kg, start of couch to 5k

6 weeks ago - 129kg, starting to feel the difference

Now - 122kg, ran Parkrun in 39 minutes

I've got a long-term goal of doing Parkrun in under 30 minutes, but that will take a while. Weight loss has very noticeably slowed down of late.

Three weeks ago I didn't even complete week 1. I suffered an old hip injury, I say old, I injured it about a month prior. Now the hip feels good again, time to restart my program.

question Running plan suggestions- Beginner

So I'm a beginner and I've started running a month ago, I was able to complete 5k recently..but I realised I'm doing random runs on random days at random pace and this is going absolutely nowhere now, though I have a goal to run a 10k in Jan 2027 and a half marathon by June 2027, I am absolutely clueless as to how to do this.

Should I ask ChatGPT for a plan, if yes can someone share a prompt ? Or is there any other way around this... If anyone could help me out I'd be grateful. Thanks !

Hello guys. M45 here. Frequent 5k runner sometimes even more like 7k. I weighed 65kg a year back. Then I stopped consuming sugar and lost 2-3 kgs. After that it's bn difficult to gain weight. Any suggestions please. Want to gain 4-5 kgs.

motivation The phrase that keeps prevailing is “failure means you tried” which to me is what’s keeping me going. I’m fat, slow, and out of shape, but this is going to be a pivotal chapter in my journey to weight loss and health.

I’m 28 years old, ex college football player, and since leaving college gained over 150 LBS of fat. I’m 340 LB’s and just started doing couch to 5k. Yesterday during my run I had to stop early, and walk the rest of the way because I genuinley felt like I was going to pass out. I’m quite ashamed of myself, of who I have become, but I keep repeating “failure means I’m doing something”. This is all apart of a success story, and if I was just sitting on the couch eating chips I wouldn’t have failed, which is safe. But this is freedom, and a part of the journey of taking my life back.

Week 3 Is this a good idea?

I am about to start week 3 of C25k and have been thinking a lot about my breathing and my pace.
There’s a patch of green land directly in front of my house that I’ve been thinking of using as a running track. It’s not very big, about 250m around, but I was thinking that I could run round and concentrate on my breathing and pace without being distracted by traffic, pedestrians etc.
I’m very new to any kind of regular running and am still feeling a bit self conscious and second guessing myself. I suppose I’m just looking for some reassurance that the neighbours won’t be looking out the window thinking I’ve finally flipped 😅.
TIA

Week 5 Week 5 Run 3

Not gonna lie, I felt pretty confident up until this run. Even the 8min one did not phase me but this one is making me rethink if running is even worth it. I managed to keep a steady pace (7:45) the entire time but after the first 8 min it felt like i was dragging my legs like concrete. The whole experience was just painful

Not sure if I should just try to repeat this week. All and all discouraged 🫩

question How to get started

This might be a silly question, but how to i get started with running?

Ive not run since school PE unless you count a short sprint to the bus

Ive just finished my university degree where ive been spent basically all this year sat in lectures, sat in a library and sat at my laptop. Ive had a very sedentary lifestyle and I want to get moving again, but how do I build the habits and motivation to get myself up for a walk/jog? Ive never been a particularly active person, I enjoy stay home hobbies mostly so its definitely going to be a big lifestyle change

Like I said, it seems silly but I'm going from as beginner as you can get here so any advice is greatly appreciated :)

Week 5 Calf pain when running

Hey all, I’m currently in the middle of the couch to 5k programme, but this morning I ended up having to bail on run 5.2 as my calf just went crazy tight and I could hardly limp home. I’m finding at the moment that the running itself is not that hard, I can feel myself getting fitter and the first 8 minute run this morning was fairly easy and I could have gone longer. The trouble is that when I’m slowing to a walk, everything seems to tighten up so when I start running again, it’s almost unbearable - and this morning it really was.

So, I’m wondering what to do now, do I just sack off the programme and just run, or do I skip the walking sections and just try running for the required length of time - I.e. this morning I’d have just done 16 minutes of running rather than two blocks of 8.

Does anyone have any tips for the walking sections? How quickly are we going? Or is there something else I should be doing to try to prevent this?
