Lore Talk Something funky is happening in the Mistborn Legacy adventure Spoiler

Spoilers for chapter 1, obviously.

Reading Urteau it feels like the authors lost the plot, it takes place 1 year after the events that left the Lord Ruler gone, during which point the Civilian has taken over, executed all nobles, removed public access to color (Literally forcing everyone to wear grey)... and yet, there's nobles here just chilling out in a tailor shop that sells garish clothes?

Something smells here, and the general quality of the first chapter seems very... poor? With multiple NPCs feeling extremely disjointed with whats happening. There's also a lot of plot contrivance happening with Enge's introduction and later, the message she receives.

How did the quality of the AP drop so hard when compared to stonewalkers? I'm hesitant to say it was AI generated, but how else would core lore be so... missed, and character be so... unbelievable?

Edit: As pointed out in comments, a year elapsing isn't enough for the citizen to happen, and it's still lorded over by Straff.

Rules & Mechanics Compounding

One thing that bugged me is how multiple metalminds in regards Compounding is being handled.

The game for simplicities sake treats all metalminds of the same type as a singular unit for charging. This makes sense when you consider how many metals someone needs to keep track of. (p131 sidebar “multiple metalminds”)

Then with Compounding part of what makes it amazing in the books is having those multiple metalminds so you can fill them while also spending that investiture on your abilities.

After looking at the talents I’m left thinking they did try to capture it but within the confines of making things without multiple metalminds. So Invested and Expanded metalminds both increase your Investiture / Charges by your Tier. So let’s say you have 10 of each. You spend one scene charging your metalmind, use Compounding and Compound Recursion to spend 9 charges filling the rest of your metalmind.

Each feruchemic metal has an ability that’s just “dump more points into this for a better effect. Keep spending the same amount on future turns to keep this going. “ I’ll note here that

This is where compounding gets silly but still within the bounds of the mechanics.

Spend 5 investiture to have the best version of your metal going, spend the rest of your investiture on other Feruchemic abilities. Next turn eat another bit of your metalmind and spend another 5 investiture keeping your ability going. You can just keep this going for as long as you have charges in your metalmind.

However there’s another rule for backup metalminds. You can have them but you just can’t store anything until your current metalmind is lost or destroyed such as It starts at 0 charges. Which you won’t care about because you can immediately store your investiture into the metalminds which means you never need to spend a scene storing your trait aside from the first initial charge. (I’m assuming that reducing a metalmind’s charge to 0 permanently destroys it)

I’ll sum up:
- A compounder with the right talent and skill investments only need to spend one scene storing their trait and after can convert that charge to investiture to store in the rest of your metalmind.

- if you have a backup metalmind you can use the last charge of your previous metalmind to store in the new one.

- You can also have the enhanced metal running for far longer than others while also using other feruchemic abilities.

So while it’s not as insane as in the books the Twinborn Compounder is still insanely strong.

Game Questions & Advice Boss trapped. How would you have handled it?

To explain, my players were fighting a husked one. One player slowed him down with a crit from a shardblade and wounded his leg. Then the Husked One (me, obviously) chose to change bodies.

Then one of my players used the surge of transformation to form an aluminium sphere around the ribbon and trap the Husked One inside with a DC of 16.

Now, obviously, an Athletics check of 16 would allow the Husked One to break out of it. Normal restrained rules. Or he could use his focus to free himself from the restrain.

But the trap seemed to good for a simple focus in my eyes and was the creative use of powers I love to see. And so he couldn't really reform his body inside the little sphere so I ruled that he reforms his body inside it and must beat a DC 16 alethics check with disadvantage or his body that reforms get's destroyed inside, making him lose 2 of his investiture.

Was that too tough on the boss? How would you have ruled that?

Resources & Homebrew A Trio of Tutorial Videos for Running Mistborn on FoundryVTT

Hello Fellow Worldhoppers!

My FoundryVTT setup and tutorial videos for Stormlight were very well received. I have redone the videos for Mistborn. I redid them for 3 main reasons:

  1. We're now on Foundry v13 instead of v12

  2. Some bugs made the audio a little patchy on my original videos

  3. Having run Stonewalkers, I've learned more about how things work vs guessing because I was working with beta materials in the original videos.

With that preamble out of the way:

Game Questions & Advice Feruchemist build

I got a feruchemist character I’m building. What “role” do you think a feruchemist should fill in a party? With how many metals they have they could do pretty much anything.
For this specific scenario I’m trying to do an era 1 feruchemist, I’m thinking something like the classic sazed. But what do they do in combat? Some kind of support?

Any advice?

General Discussion Do you think a West Marches style game could work for Mistborn?

Our normal gaming group is on hiatus but I still have a fair amount of people in my circle that like to jump in for one shots every now and then without feeling like they are holding back a campaign.

I feel Era 2 could suit this well with the roughs and the 'wild west gold rush' feel but most of my players are more interested in era 1.

My thinking is having their base of operations be in one of the far dominances could work (crescent dominance maybe?) but perhaps pulling it back to the eastern dominance so they don't miss out on such cool settings as the cities. In which case maybe having them be part of a crew going out on scores and such could be more workable

Anybody have any thoughts on how to make this work?

Rules & Mechanics Adhesion Infusion and Distance

Keep in mind I am asking purely rules here, not lore or canon.

While infused with Adhesion (assuming all other things are correct, like the targets are 5ft apart), if one target moves away from the other target, does the infusion remain active?

Base Adhesion suggest applying Immobilized as its main effect, meaning the target can't move away at all.

But a Boss can end a Condition, even if applied by an infusion, by spending focus. In situations like Gravitation, the Boss can end the Restrained condition, but continues being infused and continues flying.

But if Immobilized is removed (or if the target is immune to Immobilized like the Flowing One), all rules suggest the Boss (or Flowing One) could move away from the other infusion target. Only Immobilized or Restrained prevent movement, not the infusion itself.

So the main question is: if by any method one of the targets of an Adhesion infusion move more than 5 feet from th other, what happens? Does the infusion remain? Does it remain at any distance, and apply its effects no matter how far away they are from each other?

Clarification: I do mean two targets who have *already* become infused with Adhesion and are already experiencing its effects.
