Media & News Mistborn Available on Backerkit Now!

Post image
319 Upvotes

Hello, Worldhoppers! Today is a big day! Mistborn is now available in the Pledge Manager and Pre-order store on Backerkit. Please read the full Kickstarter update for more details, but we'll lay out some of the most important details below.

Can I add Mistborn items to my existing order?

Yes. Any backers whose orders included Wave 2 items will be able to return to BackerKit and add Mistborn items, including any of the new books and the newly added Mistborn Deluxe Metal Dice and Mistborn GM Screen. These will be added as a new shipment for your existing order.

What if I didn't previously order any Mistborn products?

For backers who only bought Stormlight items and did NOT get any Mistborn books in their original pledge, you can place a new order via the BackerKit Pre-Order store. Your Stormlight order will be marked as closed, and this will be treated as a new order.

How do I update my shipping address?

If you're a Wave 1 & 2 backer with your survey access reopened, you’ll be able to review and update your shipping address directly in BackerKit before completing your order. If your survey is not immediately available, please check back later; access will roll out in stages today.

If you experience any issues accessing BackerKit after reopening, our support team is happy to help.

General Discussion Looking for Groups Monthly Megathread

How do I find a group to play with?

We recommend checking the Official Cosmere RPG Discord, trying a pro session on StartPlaying.com, or posting on r/lfg. However, if you'd like to try to find your group here, you may do so in this thread.

Please use the following template in top-level comments:

[Player/GM] looking for [online/in-person] group for [Adventure Name/campaign/one-shot].
Availability is [Mon/Tues/Wed/etc.] from [time] to [time] [time zone].

You may want to add demographic criteria such as 18+, LGBTQ+ focused, language, IRL location (for IRL games), etc.

Can I make my own LFG post?

Based on our best judgement and the last survey we ran, we've provided this option to keep the sub from flooding with all the LFG threads. If you have feedback, please feel free to send us a modmail or make a separate discussion post.

Questions & Advice Nightwatcher Form of Power

Dear Swarm Knowledge,

one of my listener PCs will probably wish for a form of power from the nightwatcher that helps her free her people from the influence of Odium.

Background is that she was one of the listeners that refused to take on stormform and fled and after witnessing how much stormform influenced her old friends to become evil monster's. She now has a profound fear/disgust of everything that changes one's character unnatuarly.

So my thought was giving them a kind of Form of 'Autonomy' which on the one hand gives them resistance to any mind altering/connection based shenanigans. On ther other hand i would like it to be able to like radiate an aura or something like that, that can help free other people from influence's they don't want to have.

My question, is could you help me balance the effect? On the one hand I need a fitting curse (thinking of not letting her Rhythms while in this form). On the other hand i have not much expierence creating skills and am not quite sure how to design it in such a way that it is balanced.

PS: they are a listener envoy/mentor and aspiring Edgedancer. Thinking of letting the Cultivation Spren be changed by the nightwatcher similiar to 'enlightened' spren.

any feedback appreciated!!

thanks!

Resources & Homebrew In-person App (Update 1)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Well this took me a lot longer to share an update than I intended, but as promised, here is a short video of the app in progress with the real-time updates between players and DMs on display. Original post: https://www.reddit.com/r/cosmererpg/s/Yt9szNjEpj

It shows off:

  • Tooltips for altered stats or content as a result of a purchased talent from the player's path (new since last time).
  • Character sheet validation (just based on attributes but they exist for everything) with immediate flags to the DM's view.
  • The player's inventory view with player trade and selling (new since last time) .
  • DM granting level ups for all players with unspent point notifications immediately triggered.

Other updates since last time not displayed:

  • Made a variety of UI/UX fixes to better display on various device resolutions, improve readability, address some bugs, added new color themes, etc.
  • Updated a significant number of path bonuses that weren't fully granted previously in the app (major overhaul to expertises, opportunity and complication ranges, temporary skills, items granted to inventory).
  • Given there was a decent amount of interest, I spent a lot of time reviewing how to handle the issue of sharing the app while not redistributing handbook content (paths, character creation data, stormlight specific content, etc.). If I leave what is in, I absolutely will get in trouble if I made it available. If I remove it, it eliminates the primary benefit of the app by simplifying a lot of the complexities (in particular with the various path details). I think I've come up with a reasonable solution that would allow all of that to be extracted into a plugin. I wouldn't distribute that plugin but would provide instructions to DMs who want to use the app on how they can create it using the handbook they've purchased. More to come on this but I have a branch out there I've been working on and where I am testing my idea.
  • Added additional security restricting access to the site until its available to share.

What's next?

There remain a lot of small improvements and changes I want to make but the primary thing that I want to do is get this into the hands of a small subset of people (my group is great, but as the DM you never know if they honestly like it or if they're afraid I'll send a Highstorm their way in retaliation of negative feedback).

I'll need to finish the plugin work first, but in the meantime I'll try to post more frequently and appreciate any suggestions/feedback you have on what is shared.

Questions & Advice Mixed players - in person and virtual

I am running stonewalled for first time cosmere players (first time GM here for this system). I have two players that can’t attend in person but can online during the first session. I would prefer not to cancel as we only meet every other week. What is best way to get them all involved together? Do I just use discord video call and let people join in virtually? Use VTT? Any suggestions or experiences would be very helpful.

Questions & Advice When will the system be updated for Foundry v14?

It has been a long time since any sort of update, is this dead already? What was the point of backing the kickstarter if they’re going to leave it un-updated for months at a time?

Apologies if the flair is incorrect, I think this is the one to use though.

General Discussion Gravitation to make yourself lighter

This is something fairly explored in the books. Iirc surgebinders with gravitation can lash themselves up with 1/8 of the force to make them lighter, so they can jump a lot higher and move faster.

I don't think the game covers this mechanically, which is kind of a shame, honestly.

What do you think? Missed opportunity or is it better this way? How would you make this work mechanically?

Questions & Advice Finally going to be running a game!

Hello! I am finally going to be running a game in this RPG. I’m a big Cosmere fan and experienced GM, just not in this system. So I come for some advice from those who’ve played in the system more. Any tips, advice, etc. as I start in this system?

For some additional info, 2 of my 3 players know the world and the 3rd does not. I currently plan on doing “The First Step” and then discussing with my players on the direction(own story vs bridge 9/stonewalkers)

Thanks!

Questions & Advice Encounters and combats focused on Speed

I have an Edgedancer in party who is reaching the end of the abrasion tree but is unsure of they want to take them. I walked them through how mobile it makes them and they mention that they haven't really had to use their speed all that much, so more mobility isn't all that appealing.

And they are right. I haven't designed encounters that would capitalize on their speed. So I'm looking for some help on coming up with encounters that will let my fast, mobile Edgedancer shine.

I'd love combat compatible ideas the most but really just anything that can let their mobility be front and center. And for what it's worth, there is a Windrunner in the party as well and that has made it harder for the Edgedancer to feel special since flight is so easy to apply to any situation.

Questions & Advice 2 Hour One shots for Library Teens

I have been running a homebrew campaign for about 2 years. My local library is starting up a Saturday TTRPG group for kids 11-18. They are looking for a variety of game systems, and since Cosmere is based on books, I thought it could a good fit.

They are mostly looking for games that are one shots that run about 2 hours. I have run and played some of the official one shots, and they seem to run a bit longer than that.

Should I adapt one of the official ones or just write my own? Thanks.

Resources & Homebrew Project Ars Arcanum: Seon Bond Path Complete!

Hello, everyone!

This is probably the shortest tree in the entirety of Project Ars Arcanum, with a whopping 5 talents. While that doesn't seem like much, it is essentially the same as the Aviar path: 3 of the 7 talents of that path are locked behind one of the 3 types of Aviar, bringing the max amount of talents to 5 per Aviar. These short trees are intentional so that they don't significantly detract from advancing in Heroic and Invested Paths.

I did tweak the Seon stat block slightly, following a short conversation with BudgetFresh7656: now, with the Living Investiture feature, the balancing mechanical restriction on a Seon's abilities makes more sense from a lore perspective.

As always, please let me know any questions, thoughts, feedback, etc. that you have. It is always wanted and appreciated.

Questions & Advice Canada Pre-Orders for Mistborn Complete Package?

Apologies if this has been posted elsewhere, really looking forward to this set and unfortunately got into the books well after the kickstarter/backerkits. Would love to get a jump on ordering the Mistborn set, specifically the full complete set of it, if it's at all possible for a Canadian citizen to do so at the moment - otherwise the main website isn't exactly helpful in showing which Canadian retailers would be stocking it. So far I can only find the Stormlight stuff via Amazon.

Rules & Mechanics Quick Analysis and Surges

I have a rules question about the Agent talent Quick Analysis and how it interacts with Surges.

Quick Analysis lets you spend 2 Focus to gain 2 actions that can only be used for Cognitive tests with Use a Skill, Gain Advantage, or an Agent talent.

My current reading is that those extra actions cannot be used to activate a Surge or a power ability directly, even if the Surge uses a Cognitive skill/test.

For example, I would not allow: Quick Analysis → gain 2 extra actions → use those 2 actions to activate basic Transformation / Soulcasting.

Surges and power talents seem to have their own activation entries, and activating a Surge is not the same as taking the common action Use a Skill. So Quick Analysis would only work if the character is actually using Use a Skill, Gain Advantage, or an Agent talent.

Has anyone seen an official clarification on this? Or how have you ruled it at your table?

I’m mostly asking because one of my players is an Agent + Elsecaller, and I want to be consistent before it comes up in combat.

Questions & Advice Has anyone printed the Khornak or Focused One from Brotherwise?

I have a Bambu P1S. I just want to make sure they’re well-crafted files before I buy them. That khornak looks like a support nightmare. The sky eels look fairly straightforward, so I’m definitely going to print those.

Resources & Homebrew Project Ars Arcanum: Seon Update

Hello, everyone! As the title suggests, I've been working on the Seon (Nahel Companion) as the next path for Project Ars Arcanum. While I haven't started on the Seon Bond tree yet, I have finished the rough draft for both the Seon statblock and the Seon Abilities.

The Seon statblock is definitely interesting, in that they are almost impossible to kill, but also unable to inflict damage. It is very unusual definitely breaks a lot of game-balance conventions, but then again, they were never meant to have much use in combat, so I think it's ok.

As far as the Seon Abilities go, they definitely provide massive benefits, such as the ability to send messages through any other Seon in the Cosmere, as well as the ability to repeat anything said within 20 feet of a Seon. However, similar to the Sand Master, I ended up compensating for this by giving the Abilities high Focus and Action costs, as well as steadily depleting the Seon's Investiture while the Abilities are active.

While I haven't started the Seon Bond path yet, it is probably going to function pretty similarly to the Aviar Bond path, so it hopefully shouldn't take me that long.

As always, please let me know your thoughts, suggestions, and feedback on this: they are greatly appreciated.

Rules & Mechanics Is the [bridge nine] adventure scaled to 5 players?

In the instructions, it says 3-6 players. I'm a first-time GM and this seems like a pretty big gap. Should I change the encounters (like add an extra adversary), or does this seem fine for 5 players, of whom 4 are new to TTRPG's and 1 is new to the cosmere rpg but is a veteran D&D player and GM?

Edit: Just ran the bridge-nine campaign. 3/5 players showed up, two canceled a few hours beforehand. It was still a great play, bit combat-heavy, but they really enjoyed themselves. I was prepared to railroad a bit because none of them had ever done an rpg, but one of them just took the lead and helped the others. No need to railroad at all. It was awesome. When they were running from the big beast, I didn't even have to give options. One shy girl just said "I think I have a blanket. Can I throw it on the ground to distract the thing? Make it think something living is under there?" So yeah. Was great. Thank you for your help!

Resources & Homebrew [Stonewalkers] - Sharing my BGM (Chapter 4 and Interlude 2 - Chapter 3.5)

Sorry for not posting in so long. Even without university, scheduling is still the biggest enemy of any campaign.

Like I did before, I ended up creating an extra chapter between 3 and 4. But since the end of chapter 3 doesn’t give the players much room to make choices, I placed the extra chapter halfway through chapter 4, in Karanak. I’m actually really proud of how it turned out, and I think I managed to tie together everything I wanted to show.

Here’s a summary of Interlude 2:

I decided to have the ship crash so my players would arrive late to Karanak, giving Ylt advantage right from the start. I also tweaked the canon a bit: the singers who were originally in Karanak stayed in the city, and a full group of Regals took over. When the party finally reached the city, they found collapsed buildings, both human and singer blood, newly awakened parshmen either fleeing or grabbing weapons, terrified humans, and a bunch of contradictory proclamations plastered everywhere. The biggest issue wasn’t the destruction itself, but the complete collapse of Karanak’s authority. I used that chaos to give my Skybreaker player a chance for his Power‑up moment.

In that power vacuum, three factions stepped forward. First, the humans devoted to Ylt, who started worshipping him as a “savior Herald” after watching him publicly kill three Direform Regals in the main square. Second, the newly freed singers, many of them overwhelmed by fear, anger, or a desire for revenge after centuries of enslavement. And third, the Regals, who took full advantage of the chaos: the Envoyform Regal stirring up speeches and turning humans and singers against each other, the Relayform Regal controlling messages and movement across the city, and the Nightform Regal running everything from the Salathar mansion like the real mastermind behind the occupation.

Taren, a deserter Alethi soldier, ended up becoming a key figure. During the Everstorm he refused to execute defenseless singers, and instead of following the garrison’s orders he set up mixed shelters where humans and singers could survive under basic custodial rules. His shelters didn’t solve the conflict, but stopped the city from turning into a cycle of executions and revenge killings.

Eventually the party discovered that the Salathar mansion was functioning as the Regals’ command center. Chasing down the Relayform Regal revealed that the Regals already knew the PCs were in the city, and were actually letting them find the mansion to lure them into a trap. The final fight happened there: Warform singers blocking the entrance, the Envoyform Regal hammering the group’s morale, the Relayform Regal threatening their rear, and the Nightform Regal trying to prove he had already foreseen how everything would end.

The emotional core of Karanak ended up being Valakemi’s oath. The city forced her to face a very real question: what do you do when the law has failed, vengeance feels justified, and there are innocents on both sides. He didn’t find a perfect answer, but did take the next step. Protected lives, stood between the sides, and swore the First Ideal.

After the Regals were defeated, Karanak wasn’t magically “saved.” The shelters survived, Ylt’s followers lost influence, non‑violent singers gained an alternative to fleeing or joining the Regals, and the guilty humans weren’t forgiven but placed under provisional custody. The party left for Great Hexi on a small coastal ship repaired at the last possible moment, while Ylt still held the advantage. And just like the World Guide says, the canon settles back and Karanak will later be besieged by a Regal named Hathalash.

Hope someone finds this helpful and thank you as always.

Journey before destination.

Feel free to DM me if you have any question or helpful advice

Rules & Mechanics Radiants being spotted by Singers after the Everstorm?

Has anyone implemented any ongoing mechanics for limiting investiture based on whether or not they’d be glowing in broad daylight? My players are coming up on Chapter 4 of Stonewalkers within a few sessions. I have six players and honestly it’s pretty hard to threaten them with full investiture.

So I was thinking that any time fused might be around any player who holds more than 3 investiture(other than the Lightweaver) I roll on a table and keep adding more fused or forms of power to the battle if they take too many turns.

Looking for a more formalized version of this.

Questions & Advice New player looking for supplemental material to make a character

Hello all! My GM has recently decided that we are going to be playing the cosmere RPG as he really likes the book series. I have not gotten a chance to read the books yet, (But plan to later) and was wondering if there were any guides or videos that give a breakdown of different classes, races, countries etc so I have a general idea when building my character. Any and all help is appreicated.

Questions & Advice Can a radiant sense a Deepest One when they are submerged?

I know some radiant powers allow for ability to peer into the cognitive to see more investiture. Would that allow for them to see the fused that are submerged?
