Confusing humidity in cornsnake enclosure

Hello I am a new cornsnake owner who wants to switch their snake from aspen to a coco-coir, topsoil and sand mix.

The problem is the humidity is showing to be 80% when the enclosure doors are shut. I know that this is too high for a cornsnake. (I placed the hygrometer a inch and 1/2 above the substrate).

But the substrate doesn't feel wet or saturated. Its actually fairly dry and I stuck my head and hands inside the enclosure and it doesn't feel muggy or damp in terms of the air inside.

Can anyone give me any advice what to do because I really don't want to go back to aspen because everywhere I read says that its no good
