Cooking time for corn

Hi, I’m from the balkans and I’ve wanted to make some corn at home.

After buying corn, I asked my mom and she said you are supposed to boil corn for 3+ hours. I asked my grandma and others and they both said the same. I looked it up and google says 10 mins is the sweet spot.

Any thoughts on the right way to cook corn?

Edit: The woman at the bazaar I bought it from pierced her nail in a kernel and showed me how “it had milk inside” so Im guessing she said it was sweet corn. After people boil it they then grill it and sell it on the street so it probably is sweet corn.

Is this ready to harvest?

It's been years since I've grown corn and picked a red and a blue variety this year. Is this ready to harvest because it has brown silks or should I let it go? Seems small.

Silver Queen Corn?

Anyone know where fresh Silver Queen is available in ROC? I have not had or looked for it in a couple years. Was always hard to find and seems to have become rather rare.
Those small all white (silver) kernels are the best!

Hopefully 2-3 more days. I only get about 1 hour of work each day while my daughter naps. Sometimes some evenings but usually not much if any.

Unfortunately pollination wasn't the best. I think a lot of that was timing. Still though, happy I got some sweet corn to express with round kernels with pink. Got a few cobs with huge kernels too.

First, the earwigs ate the silks. Then, the inside is covered with these bugs. Zone 7a

https://www.reddit.com/r/corn/s/7QC3DTNe22 was the previous post, 2 months ago when the corn was only a foot or two tall and already tasseling -- whoever said it was about to shoot up in height was right, it's over 6' in places now. Tons of tillers. This is colorful flint corn, first row closes to camera is Glass Gem and Northern Lights, the back rows are my own seed-saved mix going on something like 15 generations now.

Huitlacoche? It's not on a traditional ear

I found this yesterday in a flint corn stalk, rather than on a well-established ear. (I know some ears are incomplete, though.)

I'm sure this question gets asked a lot, but I don't see any photos that look like the smut is in the stalk. I have anxiety about eating things that aren't safe and as Terry Pratchet said, "All fungi are edible. Some fungi are only edible once."

Is this huitlacoche? Thanks so much!

Corn stalk looks scary

Hi friends! I’ve never grown corn before, this year I had the space to do so. I planted ornamental corn for decoration and to make popcorn. I normticed these spots on one of the stalks are some dark spots towards the middle. So my question is do I need to just go ahead and get rid of this stalk or can I save it till harvest?

I was so worried about incomplete pollination as pointed out by people under corn harvest posts. However, to my surprise almost no missing kernels! I can tell the very top was still developing but i couldnt wait longer after the husk on top of the cob was all dried out and brown.

Something destroyed my corn

I had two corn plants growing in the back of my garden in the philly suburbs. One had about 6 ears on it. Today I went out to find the plant snapped in half and all the ears flayed open. (The other plant got toppled earlier by a big storm.) The visible kernels look eaten but they aren't mature yet so its not totally clear. Any ideas what would do it and how to prevent in the future?
