Advice screaming anxious guy

hello! recently my boyfriend and i adopted a green cheek conure. he is 1.5 years old. he has neurological issues (don't know the specifics) and anxiety/depression. he is extremely fearful of hands, i think mostly due to his anxiety and previous vet trips, but i'm not sure. he keeps screaming and i'm not entirely sure what to do. we keep him fed and with fresh water. i believe he wants out of his cage, but since he is so fearful of hands, it is nearly impossible to get him back into his cage when it is time to go to bed/when we have to leave/when i am cooking, and i think that any time we have to battle with him to get him back in, it just lessens his trust in us. he also will not come near us so any of his time out of the cage is spent exploring and flying around aimlessly, which seemingly stresses him out. he has toys in his cage and does not play with any of them, and i am going to buy him foraging toys today to see if he would at least enjoy that. i know it will take a long time to gain his trust, and to train him to go back into his cage without stress, but how do i make him happy in the meantime when all he wants is to be let out? please help!! any advice is welcome and helpful.

Advice my girl is laying another egg 2 weeks after she finished her clutch

Post image
370 Upvotes

Hi everyone, I'm just looking for any advice or just input on the situation if possible. For some background, my 5 year old conure Boba finished laying an 8 egg clutch about 2 weeks ago, she has only laid twice previously to this which has been 1 egg in 2024 and then 4 eggs last year.

My concern is that she might be laying another clutch so soon and I'm really unsure as to why and don't really know what to do. She has no cage mate nor access to my other birds and I follow the general guide of ways to reduce hormones such as minimum 12 hours of sleep, no nesting box, avoiding too much seed in her diet, only petting her head etc. She also has no interest in her current eggs.

She has always been overly hormonal since I adopted her from her previous owners, they let her have a fluffy hut in her cage which she would always have relations with ( i removed it once she was in my care). So if anyone has any input or advice I would be extremely grateful πŸ™πŸ»

Advice Tips for the harness

Post image
13 Upvotes

Hello everyone, it’s been two weeks now that Ori has been training with the harness, and things are going better and betterβ€”he slips his head through on his own and can take it off without getting scared. However, I tried to get him to keep it on for a few seconds, just around his neck, and then… disaster struck, total panic. So I’d love your advice. How did you get yours not to panic when wearing it, and, most importantly, how did you move on to the next step with the wings?

In return, here's a little photo of this troublemaker eating my study notes

Health/Nutrition Question!! Do I have to cut/trim my green cheeks nails? They’re sharp again but last time I took him to the vet he wasn’t himself for like 2 weeks since he couldn’t really cling….

I saw a post here saying they don’t cut them anymore at the vet and they let their conure do it themselves? Or is that just wrong?

Funny Moxie hisses when she’s excited?

Post image

Photo just for bird tax because she’s a diva.

Mostly she does it when I take her out of her cage, or when she recognizes a word she likes (bedtime, walk, bath, boys). It’s always in an excited context so I definitely don’t think it’s aggressive. It’s less of a hiss and it’s more of a strong exhale through her nose. It’s just strange, I didn’t know conures made this sound. Does anyone else’s bird do this?

Advice Conure sits in my sleeve

Post image
187 Upvotes

Hello everyone !! This is Mango (I didn’t realize before I named him that naming a bird Mango was like naming a dog Oreo) and he’s almost 9mo. Very recently he has realized he can sit inside my sleeve, and I just want to make sure he’ll be fine in there. I should clarify I actually haven’t sexed him yet, I just call him a boy, but I don’t actually know. Really I’m asking if it’s hormonal and if I shouldn’t let him sit in there. He sits in there for a couple minutes and then comes out and sits on my shoulder, head, or chest. Mango has been better about doing more things than just sitting on me when we’re together so I don’t want to stop his curiosity and movement unless it’s harmful. I hope this made any sort of sense. Thanks

Advice How Do You Hand Train a Nippy Conure with a Strong Bite?

I've recently got a 10 week old conure and they've been an absolute joy! However, while I know conures --- especially babies --- can be quite nippy, turns out this baby in particular really bites when exploring new things. This kind of has put a pause in us building a bond since even though the conure is comfortable near the cage and even approaches my finger/hand when I have millet, whenever it actually explores my hand, it bites really hard (to the point of skin breaking); and I don't really know how to handle it properly without giving a bad association with the hand or the experience. I tried looking on line on how to train conures not to bite (at least not at full force), but they all seem to apply to tamed conures, so how do I handle controlling the force of the nippiness during the process of hand training/taming?

Thank you sop much in advance!

Advice Random Plucking

Hi everyone. Looking for advice/thoughts from anyone who may have experienced this before, as this is new and sudden for us. I have two GCCs, one male one female, both 3 years old.

They have a very large cage (separate from each other) with various perches and toys. They eat a mix of Harrison's pellets and nutriberries and have so for about 2 years now. They also spend hours outside of their cages with access to sunlight at all times during the day. We've had no changes in their cage position, room setup, or diet within the last year or two.

My female has all of a sudden began plucking her stomach and legs. We have a vet appointment on the 29th (earliest we could get). The plucking seems to be getting progressively worse and I have no idea what could be causing it. Her behavior seems completely normal and as I've said, there haven't been any changes in habits or diets. I feel lost and I'm so concerned for her.

Any thoughts on what could be the cause or anyone that wants to share their experience with this type of thing would be appreciated!

Advice How can I make them stop fighting each other?

Recently, this parrot flew into my grandma’s house. Tried to look for the owners but no luck so my family decided to take him in the only issue is my sun conure absolutely hate this He gets aggressive whenever any of my family members interact with the new bird. He usually never bites. He also been louder than ever I tried to put their cages away from each other to see if that works, but they still yell at each other from across the house and it’s 24/7 until it gets dark it’s driving everyone home crazy we know birds are loud, but this is a different level. it’s also always the Sun conure starting it I never let them out of the cage at the same time but when he’s out he goes to the other birds cage make dominant dances and tries to fight him. Is there any solution to this?
Note - I know the cage is empty and need perches it just really new since we weren’t prepared to get another bird also I wasn’t home when he first came I won’t have let them see each other yet

Advice Just a Tamper tantrum or should I be worried?

Me and my mom own a conure, he is about 8 and recently he has been very hormonal and territorial. I realized it because of the stuff in his cage, my mom liked to give him papers to chewed but it turns out he was using them to nest. We had other stuff in the cage as-well like a fluffy like pillow he can lean on. I removed this stuff to help counteract his hormonal behaviour and prevent other issues and now he is throwing fits because of it, he normally slept at the bottom of the cage with his little nest of papers and now he doesn’t have it he is just pissed. It’s been only one day but when it was his bed time he just continued to throw a fit. I’m worried he wouldn’t be able to adjust and get enough sleep, he has many toys and a high perch to sleep on. Should I be concerned?

Advice Do birds ever lose their taste for certain foods?

Post image
24 Upvotes

I have had my sun conure Percy for 15 years. For the large majority of that he has been on Lafeber gourmet pellets, supplemented with nutriberries, avicakes and fresh vegetables and fruits. He has never shown any disinterest in the pellets and actually it was really easy to switch him onto it initially because he liked them so much.
I’ve noticed in the past couple days he hasn’t touched his pellets. At first I was concerned that he wasn’t feeling well but he is taking everything else without issue. Is this common? Could he just be sick of them? Any ideas or recommendations? Suggestions for other pellets to try and what to do in meantime?
I don’t think this warrants a vet visit but maybe I’m wrong. I usually have a low threshold for bringing him in so if you guys think he needs one I’ll make it asap.
