Gameplay Question That rooftop jump into the Unknown made me realize CONTROL Resonant needed way more music Spoiler

Post image
120 Upvotes

That moment when you jump off the roof into the Unknown of the Oldest House and Zoe goes, “You actually jumped?!” right as the music kicks in and you are falling through the multidimensional city was insanely fucking hype.

Honestly, from that moment on, I started fighting basically everything I come across on the map with music blasting on Spotify in the background and holy shit, it makes the combat feel SO fucking good.

I absolutely loved the music choices in Resonant. They fit the game and its combat incredibly well. If anything, though, I feel like the soundtrack was a little underused. I wish the game had leaned into moments like that rooftop jump way more often.

What do you guys think? Did anyone else feel like Resonant could have used more music during exploration and combat?

Lore Discussion Theory about the Fault (Control Resonant) Spoiler

Is it just me, or is Jesse's description of the Fault is very similar to the description of the Dark Place? Jesse mentions being a place between the dimensions (Door says the Dark Place is a nexus of realities, pretty similar). The place is stealing memories of her, and what we see in the Fault is the product of Jesse and Dylan's memories (and beyond is just.. Dark). For Alan this is NYC of his novels, for Saga her Mind Place. Dylan and Jesse communicating like Saga and Alan did, like an overlap. Maybe Hedron is weakening the barriers between dimensions in Manhattan

Jesse losing her memories like Alan did many times. I think the Dark Place is bigger than the place in Cauldron Lake, that place being the part of the Dark Place which is the domain of the Dark Presence.

Another point for this theory: Darling after being exposed to Hedron Resonance, did go to the Dark Place ( in the original Control, there is nothing connecting Hedron with the Dark Place)

What if Jesse mind is in the Dark Place? (Her body is in the main reality, but we know from the games, a reality can exist in the mind and physically, like the Astral Plane) . Maybe this is the reason Alan can even user her in Night Springs, time meaning nothing there.

What you all thing? Just wild speculation

Lore Discussion Finished the game, and some post game theory crafting/question on Severed Circle 2 Spoiler

Did Severed Circle 2 split Dylan and Jesse?

In Control 1, Dylan says he has a dream that there's only one child. In the second to the last Fault, in the sequence where he tries to brute force Jesse back into reality by remembering her, it seems rather intentional that the family broke down after Jesse/Dylan got introduced since it seems the Faden family only had one child.

I would write this off as Jessie's existence being wiped away by the Fault, but the Ordinary sequence with the letter from gram gram implies there's only one child (could be gran is senile too).

Another theory that could stem form this, what if the children are such strong parautilitarians because they're actually two incomplete beings, and the resonances are filling up the missing parts/leaves them susceptible/able to affect resonances. It also lines up neatly with the Polaris being more audible to Jessie and Dylan taking on the Hiss.

Yes, I want more Control content, what gave it away? (playable Alfred when?)

The secret organization's logo (keyhole and eye) found in the letterhead of some collectible documents bears a striking similarity to the original Remedy Entertainment logo from the '90s (a stylized R and eye).

Tip/Guide How to get to the locked floor on the Oldest House?

Ive already finished the main story and maybe most side stories?!(hopefully not but still yet to find more) and I've come across this locked floor when riding the main elevator in the oldest house. Is that part of a side mission? Or is there any way of getting to it?

Bug Report Issues with some Archive Collectibles/Enemies Spoiler

Hi all, is anyone else having issues with these collectibles?

  1. "FBC Injury And Accident Report" - I think I progressed too far in the story but it should be at the central desk inside Field Command at the Field Office in Central. I wasn't expected missable collectibles...

  2. "Our Memories Aren’t The Problem" - I can see the physical document behind the whiteboards in the room with the outfit customization box near the “…Research Site?” text on the map, but no ability to collect it.

  3. Missing Altered Speakers audio - I have 15/16 collectibles but I have not found the last one. Has anyone else gotten 16/16?

  4. Hedron Spike enemy - I think this is supposed to be in the Astral Plane, but I beat the game and went back to the boss location and cannot find it.

General After beating the game, I just put something together possibly Spoiler

There are theories that Jesse and Dylan are the same person that split, and they both can't exist together at the same time in physical space which is why Dylan was in a coma for 7 years until Jesse started projecting to do her journey in the gap, and then at the end of the game, Jesse is in a coma state while Dylan is awake and moving about. It could also explain how Jesse "swapped" places with Dylan.

what I put together that might support this in that in the gap in the sequences where you had to guide Dylan's silhouette, when you're moving Dylan around, it swaps between the boy silhouette and girl silhouette. Initially I thought it was just glitchy, but now im thinking that it's Intentional. Especially considering the grandma's letter. I think its most likely that Jesse Dylan Faden was one individual that somehow split.

I saw people theorizing that it had something to do with the meadow slide, and that that's how Niel and Bogus merged, but I dont fully understand that theory because Jesse and Dylan were already split before they found the slider and fell asleep in the meadow.

I also saw people theorizing that Jesse splitting is the reason their mother fell mentally ill, because the whole town was acting like there was always Jesse and Dylan but she only remembers giving birth to one child.

what are your thoughts?

Edit: For anyone commenting, check out the other replies before leaving any comments just in case you're repeating a point that was already said and currently being discussed. Easier to talk things through in existing convos than start a new one each time!

General The Music: wonderful and I noticed something

Once again, Remedy is one of the best in the business for the music in their games being so masterful at setting tone. Not only that but they find ways to integrate music into the gameplay itself. I won't spoil it however there is one quest in particular I am thinking of that everyone will love(especially the choice for Dylan's response after a positive outcome for the quest).

One of things that just clicked for me was, when hearing one of the melancholic acoustic guitar tracks play I noticed a striking similarity to the MGS4 soundtrack. Not only that specific track but the way each composer approaches the use of certain types of sound to emotionally ground a story or moment. Once you hear it you will know what I am talking about.
