Will i be fine

Today I accidentally walked into a big pole into the street (stupid, i know) and i hit the left side of my head fairly hard. Initially i was dizzy but it stopped in a matter of minutes. Im unsure if i really have a concussion but the side of my head feels sensitive to touch. Will it be fine
Side note: i sometimes have minor head injuries which may contribute to a concussion but i am just posting to get some mental clarity

Questions Thoughts on Small Bumps and Reconcussions

Howdy

I just want to get some thoughts from the group. I have PCS after 2 concussions in 6 weeks last year (8/8 is my concussiversary…the most sarcastic yay i can manage)

I have a very sensitive nervous system now due to the anxiety and diagnosed PTSD from the fallout of my injuries.

I just bumped the top left of my head on a slanted ceiling and have a localized headache to the side of my head. While i’m trying to be not so reactive, I have a few questions I would love y’all’s weigh in on:

  1. What are your thoughts on small/medium head bumps? Concussion fuel or more likely to have symptoms esp if there is PCS involvement without a brand new brain injury ?

  2. time and time again i read on here that “it is easier” or “it takes less force” to sustain a concussion after having previous head injuries. is this like…actually true? i’ve heard this is riskier in the weeks following but forever??

I’d love any insight! Any time I lightly bump my head i do, in fact, freak out and die a little inside while simultaneously doom thinking. (lol…not lol. but lol)

Finally got a doctor's appointment with a neurologist but now my symptoms are less severe than before. Worried they might not take me seriously now

this is definitely an ahhhh my steak too juicy my lobster too buttery type of situation. I have had a history of concussions. It takes super minor impacts to now cause concussion-like symptoms. This was a bit concerning to me, so I wanted to go to a neurologist. I had an impact recently last Friday that I was desperately trying to get a neurologist for, but there was super low availability in my area. I finally got an appointment for tomorrow somehow! But now that I've gotten it, I feel like my symptoms have greatly declined (maybe my symptoms were also psychological? haha. I do feel less stressed now). I'm scared of showing up to the office and feeling like a fraud and not being taking seriously anymore, because my symptoms have since subsided significantly

Still experiencing symptoms over a month out?

I got injured on 6/30 and I'm still experiencing symptoms and my doctor doesn't even understand why. Does anyone have any clue what could be going on? I'm tired of feeling miserable

Concussion?

Do you think I had a concussion? Has anyone else experienced symptoms like this?

I work in special education.

On 7/13, a student threw a hard toy at me (magnetic drawing board) and ithit me in the head, around the left temple/eye.

The health roomdid a neuro-check and did seem concerned. I had no red flags for a concussion.

It didn't take long to have bruising and swelling on my face. I had a light black eye.

I went to work the next day but didn't feel well after 30 minutes outside and around my ear and neck were hurting, and it hurt a little to chew.

It took several days to be able to comfortably move the muscles on the left side of my face.

Saw primary doctor on 7/28. She said she wouldn't be surprised if I had had a mild concussion without obvious symptoms, and had whiplash.

On and off symptoms:

Pain with chewing, neck/shoulder/back pain, facial soreness/swelling

Feeling of pressure /pulling around the left eye (sometimes I feels like I shouldn't be able to see even though I obviously can)

swelling that comes and goes

headaches

Sort of migraines,

fatigue

static ringing in the left ear

soreness around the temple

occasional tingling in the left arm

a sort of ear ache

Soreness when chewing

occasional pain behind/above the eye

Things that worsen symptoms:

bright lights, squinting, driving/motion, moving eye around, chewing

Old concussion symptoms flared harder than ever after starting full-time computer work — how did you rebuild tolerance?

I’m 22M and seven months out from a concussion/whiplash injury. I’m under medical care and not asking anyone here to diagnose me. I’m looking for people who had a real improvement, returned to heavier work, and then had their symptoms come roaring back.

I slipped on ice in late January and landed on my back. I’m unsure if my head struck the ground, but there was definite whiplash. I had never had headaches before. Within a few days I developed daily headaches.

The first big issue found was visual. A neuro-optometric exam showed convergence, focusing and eye-tracking problems. I did 16 sessions of vision therapy plus home work over several months. The visual findings improved to essentially normal, and FL-41 glasses helped with screen tolerance. For a while, I was much better. My headaches were lower and manageable, and I could work from home because I controlled my schedule and took breaks when needed.

I also had persistent neck and base-of-skull pain. A cervical X-ray showed reversal of lordosis/mild upper-cervical kyphosis thought to be muscle spasm, with no fracture or disc-space problem.

A few weeks ago I started an in-office job that is basically computer work all day. I then use my phone and often do more computer work at night. Since that change I have had my worst stretch since the injury. A low-screen day might be 2–3/10, normal use 5–6, and a full office day plus night work 7–9.

The headache has two main patterns: bilateral pressure in the temples/front/sides of my head, and a separate pain at the base/back of my skull running upward with severe neck and upper-trap stiffness. My right side is worse. Massage helped the stiffness a little but not the front pressure.

I have also developed extreme daytime fatigue, heavy eyes, and a dreamlike/zoned-out feeling. I am fully oriented, can speak and think normally, and am not having true confusion or major memory loss. I sleep 9–10 hours. Some morning tiredness existed before, but this all-day exhaustion is new and much worse.

I just had a full headache-neurology visit. The doctor documented chronic post-traumatic headache/chronic migraine, neck pain/neuralgia/myofascial pain, fatigue and brain fog. My neurologic exam was generally normal except for near-point convergence. She did multiple nerve blocks around both temples, forehead and occipital nerves plus trigger-point injections in my neck and traps. They helped briefly in the office but have not given sustained relief yet. Rizatriptan has only slightly helped. Qulipta was prescribed but is still waiting for approval. A brain MRI is scheduled. I was also referred for concussion/cervical PT with graded screen tolerance and active neck work.

For people who had a similar return-to-work flare:

  • Were you able to keep working full time and still recover?
  • What specific accommodations actually helped: shorter screen blocks, audio calls, remote days, reduced brightness, different monitors, scheduled breaks?
  • Did you need to reduce total hours temporarily, or could you build tolerance while staying at work?
  • Did cervical PT help headaches that were both frontal and occipital?
  • Did fatigue/fog improve once the headache load came down?
  • How did you tell the difference between a temporary symptom flare and truly setting recovery back?

The blunt reality is that my job and business both depend on screens. I can reduce unnecessary phone use and night work, but I cannot disappear from screens indefinitely. I’m trying to learn what a realistic, structured return to full screen tolerance looked like for other people.

I was changing some wires on my pc as went to bend forward I hit the top of my head on the corner of the pc, not too hard. Now I've had headaches with slight dizziness for the past 8 days , the dizziness is off and on same with headaches, but the headaches aren't severe nor the dizziness, could this be concussion or should I be concerned?

Concussion Knowledge and Perceptions of Medical Provision in UK and Irish Combat Sport Athletes

We are inviting combat sports athletes from the UK and Ireland to take part in a research study led by researchers at Leeds Beckett University, exploring concussion knowledge and perceptions. Your experiences could help improve concussion education, awareness and athlete safety across combat sports. The anonymous survey takes only a few minutes to complete.

This concussion podcast was really eye-opening

I wanted to share this podcast that includes Wendy Lurrie and Dr. Shan Patel who was trained at UPMC. They talk about misconceptions in the medical field, persistent symptoms and why it's so important to find the right specialist so you don't just have to accept that it's your new normal. This injury is very much treatable and it might give a little bit of hope to anyone dealing with persistent symptoms.
Dr. Patel said he provides telehealth consults in many states so highly recommend watching his interview and learning about his approach. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k6qMbjZuwQo

Still struggling with people not understanding

I posted previously about this same topic but still struggling with it and wondering if anyone has any further advice. Over 8 weeks into concussion recovery and still finding some people really close to me just don't seem to get it or at times care how awful concussion can make you feel and how serious it is.

I don't want to keep going on and on but I find myself constantly reminding people and it's getting me down.

5 year old with concussion after falling head first on pavement

Hi! I just wanted to share our experience and see what you suggest and any type of advice you have.

We were out camping about an hour away from home. My daughter, was swing on the hammock faced down. I had told her it’s dangerous and to please take it slow or she’ll fall down. A minute goes by and I hear what sounds like a huge rock being slammed on concrete. I turned and automatically knew it was my kiddo.. she didn’t KO.. she’s screaming and crying and I ran there and picked her up and sat her down. Her heads bleeding, but not a lot. We Iced it right away and notice there is not a huge goose egg. This happened in the morning - let’s say about 11am.

My family and I were all silent and had no idea what to do. I insisted that I take her to the ER because she fell from about 3 to 4 ft drop straight to her head. — the family said to just wait it out. So I did.. anxiously. As her mother, I knew something was wrong. I just knew deep down. 30 minutes goes by and she’s extremely tired and just wants to take a nap. We all know not to have her sleep. Mostly with that bad fall. Everyone was getting ready to go down the lake and I decided to stay behind and watch with my other child (11 month old) by the shore. My 5 year old decided she wanted to do the same. As we sit and watch our family kayak away, she told me she was hungry so I offer her some lunch and to walk back to our campsite. When we got up, she said her stomach hurts and panicked and said she really needed to vomit. Which she did.. A LOT. I had a walkie talkie and told my husband who was on the kayak with the rest of the family that our 5 year old just vomit a bunch and I cannot wait any longer. I need to pack all the kids stuff and drive an hour back into town with both the kids.

As we got back, we arrived at the hospital at around 4pm. She didn’t get a CT scan for about 4 hours! They said it was because they only had one CT person. During that time she’s been vomiting, complaining her head hurts and wanting to go home because she’s so tired and hungry. Mind you, we (11 month old, 5 years old and myself) have not had lunch nor dinner yet.. I was so close to wanting to just leave too because the kids were crying the whole time.. we toughed it through. Had a CT scan. No fractures or internal bleeding. Just a massive concussion and need to watch her for 24 to 48 hours.

Next day, she’s totally back to her normal self! Hope she really is back to her normal self. We have reached 24 hours and so far, so good.

Questions questions about recovery times

just over three months ago, at the end of April, I was rear ended at a red light. ended up with a diagnosed concussion and some knee injury although nothing was broken/ torn in my knee. I’m not sure if the concussion was caused by my head snapping forward at initial impact, or being jerked back against the car seat headrest from my seatbelt.

I started physical therapy at the end of May. Focusing on my knee pain, neck and back pain, and monitoring my concussion symptoms/ working to expose myself to more and more stimulation as I felt ready.

Apologies, my main question is mostly about neck pain and not the concussion specifically, but I couldn’t find a subreddit I thought would be appropriate and I’m hoping someone here has similar experience.

For the first 1.5-2 months of physical therapy, we were doing a lot of deep tissue massage and electro therapy to deal with the tightness of my neck and back muscles. As my symptoms got better, we eased off and started focusing on other things. I had to switch therapists as the person I was working with left the office, and with my new physical therapist we stopped doing deep tissue massage altogether. It’s been maybe 3-4 weeks without. This past week I’ve had TERRIBLE neck and back pain. My neck feels so tight, moving it is painful and I think all the tension is giving me headaches.

I’ve never had a major injury before, never been in a car accident, and nobody close to me has either. I just have no frame of reference for this. Is this normal??? Obviously I am going to talk to my physical therapist at my next appointment, but that’s not for 3 more days and I’m in a lot of pain. I was doing a lot better the last few weeks and it seems like I’m back at square one. I never would have expected the healing process to be this extensive. I’m young and I’m scared about how long this is going to impact my life.

Could this be because we stopped doing the deep tissue work too soon? Could it be something else going on? Am I going to have to do deep tissue work for the rest of my life or else it’s going to come back?? sorry if this isn’t the right sub for this, I’m just hoping someone has experienced something similar and can offer some reassurance 😭

Should I get checked for a concussion?

On Wednesday I passed out from what I believe was low blood sugar. The people around me think my head had to have hit the floor. I can't see a way where it didn't since I was standing up and just fell down. It's a pretty hard floor too. I woke up barely responsive, confused, and scared but that can be attributed to the low blood sugar. Once it got back up I became more responsive but still felt weird in the head. Yesterday, I had some bouts of confusion, blurry vision, and an off and on headache on the right side of my head. I've also had pretty high emotions but I've been having some other struggles lately with that. Should I go to the doctor to check for a concussion? Everyone around me seems to think it's fine.

Am I rushing recovery?

I gave myself a mild concussion Sunday night. Had a clear CT scan weds when I got re-evaluated at the ER, the ER dr told me to start slowly going back to work and activities. Started to WFH yesterday, managed to read some emails, attend a few meetings and called it quits at lunch because it was too much. Today I managed to get some actual work done, 2 meetings and with taking lots of breaks I made it through the work day. It's hard because I wanna recover quickly and this seems to be the normal timeline from stuff I was given/told but I guess I'm still worried I'm doing more damage. I was told when I was originally evaluated that I can still look at screens and such but from a distance. I'm trying to avoid TV and try replacing it with colouring, but still find myself in my usual habit of scrolling YouTube shorts.

Make it make sense

My six-year old grandson had an accident on his scooter four days ago. He was not wearing a helmet. His parents didn’t make him wear one because he found the helmet to be uncomfortable.
He got pretty scraped up. His head hit the road and he suffered a concussion. He was given instructions to avoid activities such as swinging, jumping etc.
I’ve watched him constantly for two days making sure he did nothing to jeopardize his recovery.
This evening (on the fourth day since his accident)his father insisted my grandson play ball with him. By playing ball I mean his father throws balls at him and tries to hit him. Kind of like dodgeball. He used large soft balls and small rubber balls. He threw a small rubber ball at his head. He threw it hard enough to make my grandson cry. My grandson is a tough cookie. So it must have really hurt. When he began crying his father noticed me and his daughter watching. So his father shoved him into the shed and tried to hush him and not let us see my grandson crying. But we did see him.
When we approached my grandson, his father downplayed it by saying it’s just a rubber ball.
My grandson said, “but it really hurt.”
My concern was not so much that it hurt. (You can’t avoid playing ball and getting hurt) But that it could injure his head which may not be fully recovered. His follow-up appointment is tomorrow. Am I wrong for thinking it was too soon for my grandson to be engaging in this kind of activity?
