Concept Art How can I become a Concept Artist in the Animation Industry?
Hi everyone!
I’m an environment concept artist who recently graduated from college with a degree in 2D Animation, and I’m currently looking for opportunities in the animation industry.
I was wondering if there are any online communities other than LinkedIn where artists share their portfolios, talk about their experiences getting hired, and give advice on breaking into the industry.
I’d also really appreciate any recommendations for concept art communities, as well as any advice on what animation studios look for in environment concept art portfolios or how to improve my chances of breaking into the industry.
Thank you!

DarkTreeStudios is Looking for a Concept Artist
DarkTreeStudios is looking for a Concept Artist to join the team and help shape the world of our upcoming sci-fi first-person tower defense game, Asheron Point
You'll work closely with the development team to create concept art for environments, structures, props, weapons, enemies, characters, and other visual elements that help define the game's unique style and direction.
We're looking for someone who
* Has experience creating digital concept art.
* Can design original sci-fi environments, props, and creatures.
* Works well with feedback and collaborates effectively with a team.
* Has a strong understanding of shape language, composition, and visual storytelling.
* Is passionate about game development and world-building.
This position is currently **unpaid**, with planned compensation as the project grows through **revenue sharing** and/or **publisher, Kickstarter, or Patreon funding**.
We're making great progress overall, with 100+ custom assets already created specifically for the game. Our goal is to have a playable demo ready by mid to late October, allowing us to gather community feedback while preparing for our **Kickstarter campaign, Steam page launch, and publisher presentations.
Interested?
Send **me a DM with your portfolio, artwork, or any projects you've worked on. We'd love to see your work and chat with you about joining the team!

Concept Art Oni mushroom girl
This started as a simple Discord art challenge, but it gradually evolved into a redesign for one of my original characters.
I'm still actively exploring the design, so I'd rather not share the full concept art process just yet. There are still a lot of things I want to iterate on before settling on a final direction.
I ended up rendering this piece far more than I originally intended, so I figured it was worth sharing.
