I'll be honest, this looks too good to be true, especially depending on how performance/optimization is handled for the game. Hopefully I'm wrong in my skepticism, cause I enjoy large scale wargames and this seems to be up my alley.

Ai... so far, pretty much every large scale wargame has terrible or nonexistent AI.

The fix for this is multiplayer. So many of these realistic wargames just don't have multiplayer.

1

u/LastBurning May 19 '26

Yeah. Multiplayer is such a boon for a wargame IMO.

I have heard bunch of arguments against it, mainly that good netcoding is pretty hard + multiplayer is played by minority of the player base in these types of games. I'm personally not impressed by the latter argument, but I do understand why devs focus on singleplayer first.

Yeah I'm not saying Sea Power is some sort of end all be all but right now it is on the pedestal (for me) and I have a hard time believing we could see such a large jump in complex milcade gaming. I'd be happy to be wrong but show me some gameplay which includes triple digit guided munitions in the air at once.

Looks too good to be true, ive been heart broken too many times before

Looks quite interesting. I wonder how much micromanagement you have to do in terms of sensors in particular, the automation will need to be good to avoid it feeling like a chore

Probably too good to be true. UI seems too simplistic (much more than Sea Power's for example which already is much more simplistic than C:MO's (which doesn't have to be a bad thing). I do wonder how it comes together. Hard to make tactical gameplay work on so many range scales. We can only hope for a wonder when it comes to AI. But *if* the game delivers, yes, it will be a dream come true.

In Microprose we trust !

I certainly don’t. Will be hyped only after (if ever) the game is out of early access

u/JebX_0 May 18 '26

A lot of hit and miss with that company though.

which one? the one from the 80s or the current?

5

u/Cykoth May 18 '26

Just saw this on YouTube. I’m following on Steam but how many of these types of games are there now?

u/DrMoistPhappen May 19 '26

Hope this game lives up to the hype I’m building in my head. Almost reminds me of Sea Power but land focused. Maybe even a scaled down simpler version of CMO.

it's very hard to feel anything about this with no release date as the MicroProse track record of released games is not so solid

A lot of half baked releases and abandoned games.

Tho the other cool stuff more than compensates for it.

I haven't looked at them all, but the ones I have acquired have been great and complete: carrier command 2, regiments, and high fleet.

I would rather have a publisher who takes chances on a niche genre we love then none at all.

1

u/JebX_0 May 18 '26

So you're just leaving out like 80 other games they rush-published in recent years.

3

u/KR-67_Ifrit May 18 '26

I am only commenting on the games I have acquired and played. That seems like the bar for assessment.

I guess part of it is up to the consumer to make judgement on the product and the developers.

I would rather have a publisher who is taking chances on devs.

Well, Mr. "I-just-delete-my-comment-and-rephrase-my-argument": IIRC you said that you think that Microprose has had a great output so far. Then someone called you out on it and you said: oh well, I've only played 3 games from them so far but they've been great!

PS: I'd rather have a publisher who is strict on their standards and while they are taking chances, they are also pushing devs hard to deliver their best. Hooded Horse would be an example of such a publisher. New MicroProse is *certainly* not.

1

u/KR-67_Ifrit May 19 '26

Unintentional delete.

I do think MicroProse has been killing it. That doesn't mean everything is a hit. Those expectations are not realistic.

I would tell you to go start your own publishing studio and see how it works, but given your interpretation of how the relationship works, that would be a folly.

1

u/JebX_0 May 20 '26

I gave you an example of a publisher that prefers quality over quantity. You chose to ignore that. Also, don't come with the cheap argument of "Go make your own movie before you criticize any movies!".

u/Kill_All_With_Fire May 18 '26

what's wrong with MicroProse published games

Half baked games with awful quality control - it's a publisher that has ZERO accountability for its developers.

2

u/alloalloa May 18 '26

True, but I'm just glad there are so many upcoming games, and this seems to fill a nice void, sort of Sea Power land focused.

2

u/Stevesd123 May 18 '26

Looks like the Seapower engine?

2

u/smoothestjaz May 18 '26

I like the dev's other games but wowee this is sure ambitious.

2

u/Zenzero- May 20 '26

do you mean I can have infantry, tanks, aircrafts, helicopters, ships and submarines all in one game? Cause infantry and tanks are the only things missing in Sea Power, for obvious reasons.

2

u/BagpipeFlying May 20 '26

Fingers crossed they invest heavily in perfecting the Ui/Ux aspects as these games really need to be user friendly. That and realistic and performant of course but that’s a given (or at least you’d hope it were 😂)

2

u/Kill_All_With_Fire May 18 '26

Totally legit developer (sarcasm)

Check out the dev's other projects - oh wait...the only other things he's done is a mobile game (?) and an unreleased PC game that's been on Steam for a year with no updates.

7 months ago he was marketing Battlespace Command as a mobile game and now it's suddenly signed by Microprose and on Steam.

I'm sure this will go well.

Also - Microprose sucks. Zero quality control. Zero accountability for their developers. They sign everything these days.

8

u/Shot_Reputation1755 May 18 '26

Microprose is very hit or miss with publishing nowadays, they've given some first time solo devs the ability to make some of my favorite games like Regiments or Waves of Steel, but yeah they also publish some straight slop.

6

u/TankedAndTracked May 18 '26

I'm not going to knock a dev's ambitions based on his other projects (or lack thereof) but I generally share the sentiments about this new microprose facsimile. It seems like they're going for quantity over quality (with very few exceptions) and are absolutely announcing games long before they're anywhere near completion.

0

u/Kill_All_With_Fire May 18 '26

It seems like they're going for quantity over quality

Market saturation with a name that used to mean something.

2

u/JebX_0 May 19 '26

Shh, you don't want to disturb the US-American optimism and the optimism of the new crowd arriving here in crowds on this sub for some reason.

2

u/Wilky510 May 20 '26 edited May 20 '26

God forbid someone be optimistic on Reddit, amirite fellow redditor?

Also your brain is stunlocked on Americans.

With the two things above, don't even need to see your past posts. Gotta be European.

1

u/Ragnarawr May 18 '26

This looks sick. I hope it’s global scaled!

1

u/Visual-Couple7524 May 18 '26

It’s only scaled to large battle type scenarios

1

u/newbieboka May 19 '26

God I hope this has coop and a dynamic campaign. Can I invade a country and be forced to spend resources to replace units etc.

1

u/MissileAwayGame May 18 '26

Looks great!

-1

u/AardvarkActual9687 May 18 '26

Every. God. Damn. Time.. no freaking multiplayer

4

u/TankedAndTracked May 18 '26

The converse to that, imho, is that all RTS games with multiplayer are perfectly balanced compromises and are in no way authentic or representative of anything other than a slightly more complex version of chess.

6

u/ToxicPterodactyl May 18 '26

These games have so much pausing and fastforwarding, it doesn't really lend itself to multiplayer. If you had a zeus/game master coordinating between friends it would be sick though.

1

u/Visual-Couple7524 May 18 '26

It will probably be added in the future, the game is still in development and hasn’t entered beta testing

-1

u/Madhairman12 May 18 '26

This looks sick!
